I had a great experience working with DEN Outdoors on a customized plan! The staff were easy to work with and communicated throughout the process. The plans were a great base from which we made some modifications. DEN is a great option for people looking for plans for a design-forward home!
From the onset, I knew I had made the right decision in purchasing plans from DEN. The branding, the socials, the website, and the product catalogue all drew me in. Even beyond that, the back story, the ease of process, and the totality of resources to help make an otherwise overwhelming series of decisions that come with planning a home build, were very attractive, and easy to navigate. But the team beyond the work is what deserves the shine. From the moment I made the decision to purchase plans I have been impressed with the level of detail and attention that comes with the product. The product onboarding and dashboard system is a great planning space. The resources included beyond the house plans allowed me to think through my project more holistically. But the level of service you get is their crowning achievement. I did not expect to be sitting face-to-face on Zoom with the CEO discussing my life goals and plans for the home. I was not expecting for multiple people within the company to be so clued in to what I want to achieve. Nor did I anticipate how helpful they would be in helping me find a Builder to work with, nonetheless one who is just as excited to be working with DEN too. From top to bottom a great experience. Even in the early stages of my process their assistance has been invaluable. Mike and the team are genuine and are invested in your success. The designs are beautiful and vast. They are all very well thought out. The ability to customize plans to your tastes, demonstrates their desire for your project to be uniquely yours, without placing limitations on your visions. I also love that there is proof of concept out in the world - showing you that your goals are not only possible, but exist out for you to witness. I can't say enough about Mike and his team at Den Outdoors. We launched our first Short Term Rental in November 2025 using a Den design that we heavily modified to make it truly ours. At that stage, we were working directly with our contractor, so Mike and I didn’t have direct interaction, but every change we made was turned around quickly. Our goal was simple - build something that didn't exist in our market. Eight months in as first-time STR owners and operators, we are the top-performing rental in our market across ALL rentals. The design catches people’s attention, and we provide unmatched hospitality. The question we get more than any other? "Who designed your cabin?" We're now building our second cabin and decided to go back to Den for another design. This time we went directly to Mike from the beginning. We've exchanged multiple emails and had a dedicated one-on-one call to work through every detail of the new design. He never once rushed me, let me think out loud, and is helping us create another unique property. We have partnered with a local builder and added him to the Den Projects Dashboard so he can review changes and see all the plans that Den created and download what he needs to complete the project. It couldn't be easier. Mike and his team are true professionals who genuinely care about getting it right for their clients. If you're building an STR and want a design that sets you apart, I highly recommend Den outdoors.

The quality and creativity stands out most with DEN. DEN Outdoors three packages available provide flexible assistance for a building project. Their Planning Package, Building Package, or consideration to use the Prefab Package give great check points to validate time to complete and budget projections.

Very quick response and great plans at a resonable cost
Beautiful designs, simple, elegant, and thought through. Flexible purchase process too. We switched designs part way through and this was not an issue, because preliminary and final designs are separate. Separating this for purposes of shopping around vs final design are useful for a first time home building experience.

I just finished my build last fall (I built the Barnhouse Retreat!) and had such a great experience building with my DEN plans. I cannot say enough about Mike and his team. The designs are clean, stylish and efficient and also super easy to revise during the building process. The house turned out so much better than I could have hoped for. Their customer service is unmatched, they are always able to answer questions and give advice and genuinely just want to help make the process of building a home easy and accessible to anyone. I would highly recommend using DEN plans for anyone who is looking for an affordable alternative to working with an architect or engineer to design from scratch, while not sacrificing on quality and design.
We have been really impressed with DEN, ever since we started our first construction project in 2023 with their A-Frame 2.2 model. Since then, we have build two furhter DEN models and continue to be impressed with the quality of their plans and the ease of dealing with the company. Highly recommend, espeically for anyone looking to build a cabin for the first time.

We had a great experience with DEN building our Barnhouse plus in the Finger Lakes. We learned a lot in the process and are so happy with the unique cabin we built. We are starting on Airbnb and are hoping to get a lot of people attracted by the unique Scandinavian vibe of our place, it’s unique and we love spending time there. We had good experience with the DEN support team to modify our plans and when we had questions. Start your adventure with a company that cares about design!
We'd been looking into custom home builds and honestly, the quotes we were getting were eye-watering. Having detailed plans from DEN helped us keep our builder honest since everything was already specced out. And I think the builder was happier as well since there were no mysteries. The plans themselves were super solid. And DEN's support throughout the process was what you want as a customer but sadly is often not the case. They hooked us up with all the local connections we needed - contractors, suppliers, you name it. Made the whole thing way less stressful than trying to figure it all out ourselves. A++
DEN Outdoors was the perfect solution for our building needs. The designed plans were easy to understand and hand over to our builder. We made some modifications along the way and the response to the final product has been spectacular. We built the A Frame 2.2 and had such a positive experience that we decided to build the L Barnhouse and Modern Loft cabin. Highly reccomend to anyone looking to build!
