When you're moving a significant portion of your retirement savings to a company you've never done business with before, trust matters. That was my biggest concern with IRA Financial. There simply weren't many independent reviews online, and transferring a large amount of money naturally made me wonder whether the company was legitimate and whether I'd have support if something went wrong. I'm happy to say my experience has been excellent. IRA Financial helped me establish a Self-Directed IRA and an IRA LLC, and they completed everything in about 2½ weeks, exactly within the timeframe I needed. I especially want to recognize Jenn and Rhiannon. Jenn kept the LLC formation process moving and made sure everything stayed on track to meet my deadline. She was responsive, organized, and helped keep the process from stalling. Rhiannon, however, completely changed my perception of the company. She spent extra time with me on the phone, patiently explained how IRA Financial operates, answered every question I had, and wouldn't let me end the call until she was confident I was comfortable with everything. That level of ownership and genuine customer care is rare. She single-handedly turned my initial skepticism into confidence in the company. If IRA Financial recognizes exceptional employees, Rhiannon should be at the top of that list. One thing I'd mention for prospective customers is that the best experience comes from actually speaking with someone. While I found the online information somewhat limited, once I connected with a representative, they genuinely worked to answer my questions and make sure I was taken care of. Based on my experience, I would absolutely use IRA Financial again and would recommend them to anyone considering a Self-Directed IRA.

IRA Financial makes it relatively easy to setup a checkbook IRA. However, afterwards, I was very disappointed about a number of things. First, I have always had to wait at least 30 minutes for phone support. Chat support is generally quicker, but is for more general questions. The big issue you need to be aware of is that if you need to transfer funds quickly from the custodian for an investment or even to the bank account setup for your IRA LLC, it will currently cost at least $225. $25 is the wire fee, which is normal, for same day. But they want $200 to expedite the request within IRA Financial to approve the wire transfer, otherwise you have to wait 3 to 5 days! So, just be aware that this might be an issue especially if you need to send money quickly for your investments. To be fair, once you get your money (usually a transfer from your previous IRA custodian) to the IRA LLC bank, then you are governed by the bank's rules for wires and not IRA Financial, so that should go much smoother.
