I took some Trial classes with LTL…

I took some Trial classes with LTL Language School. I liked their methodology very much, the content is well-structured. Also, the teachers take their time to develop the class according to your pace and make sure you understand. Most of the teachers speak good English, which makes it more flexible, especially for beginners.

Best Chinese materials

Flexi class - Best Chinese materials I've seen so far - very neat and organized. The tool they use also for teaching is great. Teachers vary - I liked most of them.

Awful treatment in LTL Beijing; random closures

I encountered multiple problems at LTL Beijing, and found staff completely unwilling or unable to fix problems. Indeed, since management is nowhere to be found, the staff at LTL Beijing teamed up and blamed me for everything. This was one of the worst experiences of my life. However, I particularly warn the reader about the random office closures: 19-th May, 2021, students received the message: "The immigration and exit administration will come to the school to check the actual working environment... if a foreigner appears in the company, the extry-exit person will ask them to provide materials... In order to avoid trouble, we think it is the easiest way not to appear in school these days" LTL Beijing was closed to students for about 2 weeks, to ensure students did not talk to the authorities. What are they hiding? Are they even operating legally?

Have been studying Mandarin Online for…

Have been studying Mandarin Online for a month so completed a dozen classes. The system is reasonably simple to navigate and use. Zoom has its own strengths and weaknesses. Time zones around the world add a drowsyness factor but I remember in my Uni days usually at least one other student arrived late and was drowsy in a medium sized class. Zoom is highly interactive - not just a webinar. LTL Teachers are very professional and try to involve all the students. Multiple student classes are better (IMO) as you can hear other student mistakes and prepare yourself to not make the same errors, since the teacher will surely ask you (next?).

Time well spent

I had a course for 4 weeks at LTL without knowing much Mandarin in the beginning. I appreciate the flexibility in booking the lessons (I booked my course about 6 weeks in advance) and I think they did a good job in balancing the different levels of speaking in the same class, although this is always some sort of trade-off. The teachers as well as the staff cared about your progress and encouraged to learn more. In the school, there was a pleasant atmosphere, which is suitable for self-study outside of the class. About twice a week, other activities are offered, like going to a restaurant with regional dishes or more cultural activities. They are also very open for your own suggestions. I was happy with my accommodation. A huge plus was the very nice manager of the apartment complex.
