Incomplete Work Followed by High-Pressure Upsell
I would not recommend this company.
They were hired to address a partially clogged kitchen sink and a main line issue that was causing the downstairs tub to overflow when the upstairs shower was used. After diagnosing the problem, they provided multiple estimates totaling over $3,200. I approved only the main line cleanout for $1,059.
After completing the work, they left without actually resolving the kitchen sink issue. They ran water briefly before leaving—far too short to confirm proper drainage—and then attempted to upsell a $6,000+ excavation job involving 30 feet of pipe.
The next morning, I contacted them because the original issue was still not fixed. Instead of addressing the unresolved problem, the field supervisor stated the work had no warranty and insisted that the $6,000 job was necessary.
At no point was I given an estimate for a basic kitchen line cleanout, which is typically a much smaller job. A reasonable next step would have been to address that line—not jump immediately to a major excavation.
It is not acceptable to complete work, leave the issue unresolved, and then refuse to stand behind the service less than 24 hours later.
This experience felt more like an upsell than a genuine attempt to fix the problem.
Written for J. Grey. The nightmare started in March 2025 with Mr. Rooter out of Peru, Illinois. I had my house on the market at this time in Earlville, IL. I had a problem with the sewer line and they came out and said it was roots in the sewer line that could not be cleaned out, a 6ft pipe would need to be replaced. Cost of $6,500.00. Full payment was made which they insisted.
A few days later I was told additional 30ft pipe would need to be replaced. Cost of $25,000.00, I paid in full, insisted by them. Mr. Rooter came out in March 2025 and dug a 10-15 ft wide trench. While trenching- they mangled the water line (had to have city come shut my water off), hit the neighbors garage leaving damage. I asked again for invoice.
We were told by Mr. Rooter- all good, inspected (they did the inspection). Hole was covered by dirt, middle of April 2025. I asked again for invoice.
April 25, 2025- I had mud coming up in the basement drains. I called Mr. Rooter and they were sending a manager and inspector on May 5, 2025- they did not show up. Mud still coming up.
I had to take my house off the market. Water was still shut off.
During this time of no water, I had a pond with over 40 Koi fish, some very large. The pond needed water after the winter so the pump would run. I lost over half my Koi fish and gave away the rest so they would not die.
No show by Mr. Rooter on May 16, 2025. Mud still coming up in basement drains.
Between May 17th and May 21st, they came out and dug 10-to-15-foot trench, Mr. Rooter admitted the new pipe that was installed by them did not get attached to the existing pipe before the hole was covered by dirt. It was inspected by them????
June 9, 2025- July 8, 2025. Same. Trench with pipe sitting on the ground. I sent pictures to Mr. Rooter
After July 8, 2025- Mr. Rooter must had fixed it, the hole was covered with dirt. Mr. Rooter said all good, inspected, had video of the inspection. (they will not send us) Still needed a copy of the invoice.
July 19, 2025- I put the house back on the market- water was turned on by city.
April 15, 2026- I had a contract for the sale of my house. The potential buyer had a sewer inspection done and it did not pass the inspection. The buyer would not go forward.
April 21, 2026- (had to take day off work) Met with the supervisor from Mr. Rooter, he performed a camera inspection and said “yes” there is a problem. He met with the neighbor about the damage to her place and assured her they would fix it along with bringing in a load of dirt to level the large area where they had dug. He took pictures of everything.
April 28, 2026- Mr. Rooter said the pipe was full of mud because when the pipe was reattached, they did not clean it out. Mr. Rooter said good to go after they flushed the pipe. Camera inspection no signs of any issues. Asked again for the invoice.
May 3, 2026- I had my 2nd contract for the sale of my house. The potential buyer had a sewer inspection done on May 11, 2026 and it did not pass. The buyer would not go forward. The inspection completed by the potential buyer showed gravel in the pipe, pipe not attached (space in pipe). We have copy of it.
May 11, 2026- Called Mr. Rooter. No call back. No copy of invoice. No copy of their inspection. I can’t sell my house, my neighbors garage is not fixed.

Total Work time : 30 minutes
I scheduled the appointment and paid the online fee for them to come. Beware this 90$ up front cost does NOT get applied to any work done. I had a clogged pipe that was backing up into the laundry sink. Two work men came to the door with an electric snake. One of the workmen did the work, opened the cap and used the electric snake and pipe cleared and no other work was required. The other work man had our credit card on file and had my husband sign on the phone and emailed a bill for 716$ in addition to 90$.
I contacted the manager to get clarification on the bill. I cannot understand how they can charge over 800$ for 30 minutes of work without any materials needed and straight labor fees. I was told that these fee’s also help pay for advertising and other costs.
I DO NOT recommend this company. I have used them twice before and now wondering if the labor charge was that 1600$ an hour as well. Unfortunately the work was good but I feel overpriced and RIPPED OFF!!.
We had a main line clog. Called Mr Rooter and they responded right away. Nick Lemba was here within an hour. He was extremely professional and knowledgeable. He checked out the situation, explained what needed to be done, and explained the cost. He then cleared the clog and cleaned up the area. Nick was very friendly and a pleasure to work with. I would recommend this company for your plumbing needs. 05

Mr. Rooter quickly sent out a technician same day of my call. Young man, LEX arrived on time and began diagnosing the situation. He removed and cleared out the clog. Appreciated his tone and carefulness during the visit. Thank you Mr. Rooter for having professionals like LEX on your team!

DO NOT USE MR ROOTER.
DO NOT USE MR ROOTER.
Do not use Mr Rooter of Bloomington at 2206 E.Oakland Ave.
THey come out to my home on January 19th for a emergency back up. They where unable to fix the issue that night and schedule another crew to come out on the 20th. I was charge $115 for this visit. The crew came out on the 20th and cameraed the lateral and saw the issue. We went over the issue and confirmed that a hydro jet and a liner would fix the issue. At this time i wrote a 2500 check as this covered half the cost. January 21st a crew came out around 6PM CST and was unable to fix the issue. I was told that another crew would come out the next day with a camera to resolve the issue. I never say another crew again form Mr Rooter. I would get emails that a crew would be coming out, but received NO CALL AND NO SHOWS on those scheduled days. I would call the office and was told that people would be coming out in a few hours and no one ever should. This went on from 01/21 until 01/25, during this time I would call and get the run around that no supervisors were in the office Etc. When I finally did get to speak with a supervisor,Brett, he had every little knowledge of he job and was asking questions that had already been answered when the crew was at my house.I was told that it was too cold liner to be installed to which i replied I need to be able to use my plumping in my house, the liner can wait.
01/25 I spoke with Brett and he GUARANTEED that a crew would be on Monday the 01/27. Had another no CALL NO SHOW on 01/27. At this time I called the office and requested a full refund. On the 27th I received an email with a zeroed out invoice. Then on the 28th my credit card was charged $526.33 unbeknownst to me. I have no invoices for this amount in my records.
I spoke with another manager Joe on the week of 02/04. I was told he had pictures and notes from the crew that the work was completed. I asked from the evidence of this and never received any documentation. I asked why my card was charged with out my knowledge and he was unable to provide an answer to that question. I disputed the two credit card charges as the work was not completed. Mr rooter sent documentation to my bank showing that the work was done which is completely false. Still working with my bank on the disputes to this day.
I would not recommend using MR rooter at ALL. Stay away from them and go with a company that is legitimate and actually performs the work they say they will.

Kyle Boddy of Mr Rooter
Kyle Boddy of Mr. Rooter was amazing. He arrived within 1/2 hr. of my call relating to my plugged kitchen drains. Polite and relaxed, he explained every step of the procedure and options offered with different costs.
He is a true gentleman!!
In my opinion, he should open his own business. As a leader he would be the best!!

Nothing professional about them.
I called Mr. Rooter to get a new sewer line flushed and camera inspected for my client. I requested a robot camera as they were a larger diameter pipe but was assured that a standard push camera would be okay. The first time they visited the site, someone was taking video from a phone camera of the video screen. Between the cameraman's shadow and the sun's glare, the video was useless. So I complained and they sent the sewer tech back to take better footage. Between the water being used to flush the pipe and the dim light on the camera, that footage was almost useless. That was $2,400 wasted. I finally called another company and had them take to video which turned out terrific. The robot they used gave really high quality video, and they attended my site the same afternoon that I called, plus their work was half the price of Mr. Rooter. As a professional contractor, using Mr. Rooter was a waste of time and money, as each time they were on site I also had to pay for an employee to be there both occasions. Perhaps Mr. Rooter thinks they can get away with this on residential clients, but they will be losing a commercial client now.

I paid them for unclogging the basement but got a poor service…
I paid them for unclogging the basement sink in my house. The agent assured me that the work was done properly, without even testing if the water would run down. On the receipt, it was written that the work was with no warranty. After I noticed the issue, I called them to report that the issue was still occurring. I asked them to come and assess my concern. They refused to do so. Instead, they asked me to pay for hydrojetting to resolve the issue. I called another plumbing company. When they came in, they could not believe that when I told them Mr Rooter Plumbing completed the same work earlier. The latter corrected the wrong service provided by Mr. Rooter and gave me a 12-month guarantee. I asked Mr. Rooter to reimburse me for the poor work provided, and they refused. Honestly, based on my personal experience, I would not recommend Mr. Rooter to anyone.

Shyster company
The workers did their job but, they destroyed my lawn, sprinkler system and concrete mow strips and the supervisor said their contract does not cover damage caused by their workers. Knowing that they did not advise or allow for contract review but demanded authorization signatures immediately. Next door neighbor had the same job done for half the 48 k price.

Review for Rooter Etobicoke
I recently contacted Rooter Etobicoke for plumbing service. They sent a plumber named Jason, who was kind, professional, and efficient. Unfortunately, he accidentally left the hot water turned off when he finished the job. Mistakes happen, and I completely understand that, I simply needed someone to come back and turn it on.
When I called the dispatcher to request that Jason return, I was met with a very rude and condescending attitude. There was absolutely no customer service or willingness to help. Her tone and approach were unacceptable and left a very negative impression.
Because of this experience, I chose not to continue with Rooter. They also quoted me $952 for a repair that I ultimately had done by another plumber for $259.
I appreciate Jason’s kindness, but due to the dispatcher’s behaviour and the extremely high quote, I will not be using Rooter again.

Robbery…
I asked for the possible cost and they said maybe a couple hundred unless they found something else. Ezra was very nice. I had a pinhole leak. They brought the pipe part, unscrewed 3 bolts, installed it and charged me over $1000. Then suggested I put in a bladder to release some pressure and replace my water softener and heater and they could give me a deal. I need to win the Powerball first.
DavidnC. was our service man. He arrived on time . He answered all our questions, did a great job and cleaned up after himself. We are very satisfied with the service we received. Thank you David C.
They kept a $2000 down payment on $6900 job that I cancelled after 2 days and say it's non refundable. That's like 30%. There's a 3 day cooling off period. They never emailed the invoice or contract even after calling and asking for it. I've been getting the run around for 2 months now. I'm elderly on a fixed income and apparently easy to scam.

Misleading pricing, gouging customers
I called for a very basic dishwasher hook up. I was told that I would be charged $79 as a callout fee and that that amount would be applied toward any labour or parts that I chose to proceed with. The plumber who arrived told me that it would be a very quick and easy job (20 minutes) and that it would be $400. He told me that if he comes out to do a job no matter how simple the minimum he will charge is $400. Why then was I told there was a $79 call out charge? I feel this was very misleading. I have since compared this pricing to other companies and have found that $200 is generally a much more standard fee. Mr. Rooter is misrepresenting their prices and gouging customers.
