Scientifics Online

Pricey. Slow delivery. Nice selection of robots.

As advertised

As advertised, came quickly. Nicely curated selection of interesting science-imagination-geek toys. My only complaint is the printing on the periodic table mug is not perfectly sharp making it very hard to read the white on yellow element symbols.

I have been buying things from …

I have been buying things from Scientifics since the 50's. I still have a catalogue from that time. It may be me but it seems that what you have to offer, as time goes by, is more like toys to entertain than learning scientific principles. I buy a lot of "Rattle-back-space pets." I like to pass these out to people, especially young people, asking that parents don't show kids how they work but letting the young play with it and "discover" how it works! If you show them how it works they will bore quickly, but discovery may drive their curiosity. Also your web address gives them a place to go to learn more. I wish you had instructions on the principles that make them spin and why it changes direction because I don't know. I would like to see a price break for buying large amounts so I can pass out more of them. It's like free advertising for you. A little help! Also there are diagrams for tying knots, but I would like to see a booklet that shows/tells what applications a knot is used/good for.

I ordered a $12.95 item online

I ordered a $12.95 item online. I understood that they would add to their usual shipping charge in order to ship to Alaska. However, when the item arrived I saw that they had paid $2.67 for shipping, after charging me $16.75, in other words, 500% over their actual cost. I contacted customer service to point this out and request an explanation, and possibly a refund for part of the shipping charge. I explained that USPS rates to Alaska are comparable to rates to Seattle, for instance, and asked what the item would have cost to ship to Seattle. Their response, "I'm very sorry you are upset . We do charge extra to ship to Alaska. Thank you Linda N" This felt disrespectful of the time I took to let them know that their policy felt unfair and unjustified. I would have been open to any reasonable explanation. I will not be ordering from them again. Alaskans get tired of this kind of exploitation.

Next generation of scientists

I have ordered several products as gifts for my nephews. The items have arrived quickly and were received with enthusiasm. As budding scientists, this company provides the necessary things needed to perform eye opening experiments for them. While much pleasure is gained by using the materials, the scientific method becomes familiar to young ones at the same time. Thank you for providing a convenient, reliable process to the next generation of inventors and explorers!

A great little, affordable, expandable optics bench

Scientifics Online provide home science equipment at very reasonable prices. The optics bench that I ordered is a no-frills meter stick with accessories. They sell the parts separately so it can be expanded, and I'm looking at their meter stick balance which would increase the kit's utility even further. It fulfills its purpose quite admirably. I also like the informative descriptions they provide for their products on their website. I know exactly what I'm ordering, usually even the parts that make up kits.

Received order right away

Received order right away. Product was as described. Easy ordering through their website.

The axle jumped over the glass holder …

The axle jumped over the glass holder because it was to loose for the axle to spin. I had to use a small piece of wood as a wedge to hold the glass to the appropriate distance . Also the axle balance is very poor, I don´t think it´s balanced at all. I wouldn´t recommend it.

Edmund Scientifics Online is even better.

Edmund Scientifics is still doing an excellent job after many decades.

Hydro-Rockets & Robots

The hydro rockets that I purchased for my grandkids were exactly the way I remembered the ones I had as a kid. The kids only get soaked in plain water and the rockets fly up to about 80-100 feet and the grandkids and their dad had a blast playing with them. Fantastic toy would definitely buy again. My grandson is in the process of assembling his first robot, a cricket, and having a blast while he and daddy carefully build it while he analyzes the entire process so he can understand the mechanical functions of the gears etc. mind you he is only 6 but he fully understands the mechanical workings of these devices.
