I strongly do not recommend. They do not care about their students, and alumni returning students. I'm happy that I chose to continue my MBA with another more reputable university... the enrollment counselors were dismissive, poor communication and if you have something that needs to be cleared or fixed with financial aid it will not get done. This school is not a traditional university; it is an online MEGA university that treats you like a number.

We appreciate your reviews, Essence, and you taking the time to voice these concerns. Please be assured this feedback is valued, and is being directed to the proper department for review and improvement.
Had to take a WGU course to qualify for the Accelerate IT program and it was a nightmare. The course was fine, but the system crashed constantly, logging in took multiple attempts every time, and I was calling IT every other day. Support gave me a different answers each call and the enrollment counselors were completely unhelpful to the point where I just withdrew my application. Honeslty glad I only had to deal with this for one course bc I can't imagine fully committing to this school.

It is regrettable to hear of the difficulties with your experience here, Juliana, and that it was not up to par. Please be assured that your concerns are being routed to the proper department for feedback and continuous improvement.
The self-pace nature of the program helped me fit school into my busy home and work schedule. Having my mentors, that was a blessing I never thought I’d need; those ladies kept me sane. All around it was a wonderful experience and I’m proud to be WGU Alumni!

WGU’s approach to school was the perfect fit for my life. Traditional college was not the best fit for me and WGU allowed me to advance at my own pace that I set myself. I was able to compete my bachelor program in only two years!

I was so pleased with the ability to accelerate. I was beyond nervous to start a master's program, which is part of the reason I kept putting it off. I was so proud of myself for juggling a full-time teaching job, being a wife, mother, sports activities, church/social life, etc. AND complete the program in just 11 weeks! It truly helped me feel so accomplished. Overall the tasks in my program were appropriate.

That is INCREDIBLE, Lauren! We understand that can be nerve-wracking as a process, but wow, you really should feel accomplished! We love to see our students succeed like this, and put to use their skills and excel in the way our programs were designed to do so. We have you in mind when we do that, so we love to see stories like this. Way to power through!

WGU - a positive culture that is genuine
WGU provided me with:
* Flexibility for a school-life balance
* An abundance of resources whether it be related to registering for a new term, finances, courses, mentors, instructors, learning tools, study tools, you name it.
* A staff that was always available (mentors and instructors both) and if by chance the mentor or instructor that I typically communicated with was unavailable, there was always someone else to step in and help.
* A positive and upbeat "vibe". An encouraging and motivating culture that I feel is genuine

I have had the worst experience that I have ever had trying to communicate with a college and get registered. First off, I put an application in to attend college to obtain my bachelor's in human resources management and I did not hear anything for 3 weeks after putting in an application.
No one ever reached out to me I never got an email but yet my friend and I had applied around the same time because we had planned on going to school together and trying to graduate together at the same time. She got all of her stuff done and got enrolled and is currently in college. I still hadn't heard anything and was not able to start May 1st as she did so I reached out again to see what was going on.
Still didn't hear from anybody I called in multiple times and they kept telling me to email admissions. No one would speak with me over the phone in regards to my application or in regards to my financial aid or to discuss programs or how to even get enrolled or what was going on.
I paid to get my transcripts transferred over to Western governors and when trying to call in to see what credits would be moved over to the college they would not discuss anything with me and still told me to email admissions. I received an email today stating that I had to take a form to get notarized and had to turn it back in to the college by mailing it to a specific address.
I've tried asking multiple times exactly what this form is for and no one will tell me what the form is exactly for no one will answer any questions and they keep telling me that has something to do with the chain of commission and they will not communicate with me what is going on and why they're asking for this.
This is very upsetting as it seems like I'm being treated like some kind of fraud is being committed is that's not the case. I have tried to enroll in other colleges and actually spoke with other admissions counselors with other colleges and I have never been treated like this to the point where being ignored is just blatantly rude and disgusting.
I'm just not sure what is going on with this college and why are they are so closed off and very rude and aren't willing to discuss anything especially when you're going to go to school and give them thousands upon thousands of dollars to attend their classes they can't even have the respect to speak to you with dignity and treat you like a human being rather than a checkbook.
I will definitely not be going to this college because I have had to jump through many hoops to try to get to where I am right now and this is weeks of trying to get enrolled and still being treated with disrespect and no answers as to why I haven't even made it past the enrollment process.
Extremely disappointing transfer experience.
I applied to WGU because they advertise themselves as flexible and friendly for working adults trying to finish a degree. I already have 63 earned college credits and a completed Associate of Arts degree, so I expected at least a reasonable amount of transfer credit.
Instead, WGU accepted only 12 credits.
I understand that not every class will transfer perfectly, especially since my associate degree was in a different field. But accepting only 12 credits from a completed AA feels ridiculous and completely defeats the purpose of going to a school marketed toward adult learners and degree completion.
The response I received was basically that only courses matching their specific program requirements would transfer. Fine, policy is policy. But financially, that makes WGU a terrible option for someone in my situation. I would essentially be starting almost from scratch, despite already completing two years of college.
This was frustrating, unhelpful, and honestly disappointing. If you already have college credits and are hoping WGU will help you finish affordably, be very careful. Get your transfer evaluation first before committing to anything.
For me, WGU did not make financial sense at all.
Reply from WGU - Western Governors University2026-05-28
We understand the frustration with transferring. Eddy, and it is regrettable to hear of your experience. Unfortunately, it can be very difficult to transfer in every course due to differing admission requirements between schools. We do thank you for your feedback however, and we hope that you are able to connect with Enrollment to look into some options with you. We do want to help and make sure that you are making the best decision for your path moving forward. We appreciate you taking the time again, as it helps us to continuously improve.

Very good school for professionals
Very good school for those already experienced in their career wanting to move up. The program supports full time employees well by being at your own pace. You can work at your own cadence.
Those who need their hand held may find challenges because most mentors have a lot of students to support and you really need to keep moving on your own. Excited to graduate in July.
All staff that I've interacted with have been kind, respectful, and supportive.

There communication was always…
There communication was always horrible. You have to use a mentor and they can never be reached. I actually withdrew and I’m going to start another school but was even held up because they messed my transcripts up. They input my SSN wrong, so now I have to fix it, wait for it to be fixed then send my transcripts again to the new school. Now they are giving me time to edit my review I told them all of this while being a student but yet they never called me or tried to fix any of it. They still haven’t called to talk about it. When you withdraw you have to do all kinds of paperwork and I wrote all of this and it didn’t matter, they didn’t try to fix it either. They know a new group of students will sign up and toss money at them some will finish and some will not but they get paid either way.

WGU is a large university but you would never feel like it. From the very first interview when I began my admissions process up to my final conversations with my academic program mentor about graduation, every individual and unique detail about my life and my college experience was recognized without me needing to constantly remind them.

I Would Start at WGU if I Could Start Over
WGU is an awesome university! I moved around a lot and transferred to several brick and mortar schools before landing at WGU and WGU was by far the best experience. The flat rate for tuition, optional study groups and the course set ups made it so that no time was wasted on busy work like weekly essays, discussion boards, and quizzes. WGU is about learning the material and passing the classes which saves a lot of time and work when learning is your only focus unlike traditional universities. I will warn you, you must have good time management skills and be able to stay on task or you won’t succeed. You have to be internally motivated to make the most out of WGU. WGU is no walk in the park but I’m here to learn and move on, and that’s exactly what gave me.
