I've been an active designer on GoPillar for over a year, participating in multiple contests and investing serious hours into each submission. I'm writing this review because of a pattern that needs to be visible to both designers and clients considering the platform.
Recently, GoPillar changed the winner count on contests from 5 to 3, including on contests that were already running with designers actively working on submissions. No email notification. No announcement. No update on the contest page. I only found out by checking the details myself mid-project. This means I committed professional work under one set of rules, and the rules were changed silently while I was still working.
This comes after the single contest access fee was quietly raised from 10 euros to 15 euros for non-premium designers. Again, no consultation, no advance notice.
So the current reality for designers on GoPillar is: you pay more to enter, you compete against 15 to 20 other professionals, and now fewer of you get paid at the end. Meanwhile, GoPillar takes over 50% of what the client pays before anything reaches the prize pool.
For clients reading this: the low prices you see are possible because designers absorb all the risk. Most of them work for free. The ones who win split a fraction of what you paid. That is why you get 15 to 20 submissions for a few hundred euros, not because design work has no value, but because the platform is structured to extract it at minimal cost.
For designers considering joining: the platform can be useful for building a portfolio and gaining experience on international residential projects. But do not rely on it for income. The prize amounts are not sustainable for professional work, and the rules can change at any moment without your knowledge.
I would have given 3 stars if the changes had been communicated transparently. What earns 1 star is the silence. A platform built on 70,000 designers should treat them as stakeholders, not as a renewable resource.
GoPillar Review: A Great Platform That Needs to Review Its Rules and Community Relations

I deeply value GoPillar and the concept behind it. When it launched, it felt like a brilliant, innovative way to connect designers and clients from around the world. The dynamic it offers, the challenges, and the opportunities it provides are powerful. It truly is (or was) a great system.
However, there are some serious issues that can no longer be ignored—particularly the unlimited contest extensions. I’m not asking for rigidity, but rather for clear and fair limits. Two extensions per contest, up to 360 days, would be understandable. But I’ve personally seen contests extended 4 or 5 times. In one case, for a project in Singapore, the platform even allowed an extension after the official deadline, based on votes in the forum. It felt disorganized and unfair. This happened again with a sports center competition around the same period but was not aproved.
The worst part was not even the extension itself, but the cynical response I received when I raised my concerns. That final line from support felt like a passive-aggressive “if you don’t like it, leave,” which shuts down any possibility of honest feedback. Since then, I’ve reviewed other 1-star ratings and was shocked by how aggressive and dismissive the platform's responses were. As a company, GoPillar should remember that its reputation was built by designers and clients who trusted the process.
Another issue is the declining quality and fairness of prizes. It’s hard to justify entering competitions that offer €130 to €500 total for full renovation concepts, especially when that prize is split among 5 winners. Meanwhile, GoPillar charges a substantial fee to clients for launching these contests. You can verify this by simulating a competition launch and seeing how much it costs. This isn't bad, it's perfect, but then they can't allow prizes for projects with multiple orders to total €130, €200, or €500.
Yes, the platform looks better now—visually. But functionally, it has noticeably worsened: login issues, clunky contest applications, difficulties reviewing submissions, downloads with errors… The platform isn’t more efficient—it’s just prettier.
All of this makes me sad, because I truly care about GoPillar. I don’t want it to fail. But the reality I came back to after almost a year of pause was shocking. The decline is real, and it’s been echoed by many other designers—not just me. I’m not asking for perfection, only for respect, transparency, and real listening. Without that, even the best ideas lose their value.
I hope my review is taken seriously—for the good of the whole community.
Surprisingly good experience – would 100% use again!
I didn’t really know what to expect when I first tried GoPillar, but I’m honestly so happy I did! I needed help with a design project and wanted to explore different creative directions without spending weeks coordinating with a single professional.
What I loved the most? The variety. I got several proposals, each with a different idea, and I could feel the creativity in every one of them. It made me realise how powerful it is to open your project to multiple minds — it really gives you fresh perspectives.
Also, the platform is super easy to use, and the GoPillar team was there to support me the entire way. I never felt lost or ignored, which is rare in online services.
As someone who works in branding and marketing, I can say GoPillar is a great resource if you want smart, professional and creative solutions without the overwhelm. I’ve already recommended it to a few friends and colleagues.

Great experience. I could not have had this level architectural insight and work completed anywhere else for twice the fee.
Because you can literally see the prior projects nd the results, it gives you confidence that yours will be similar. Our results are fantastic. We will likely do this for futher minute interior design or patio design.
My experience with the Gopillar team was satisfactory. They were very helpful while I was building my personal page on the platform, and they guided me on expressing my requirements in a clear and effective way. Any issues that occurred were due to missing details on my part, therefore, I strongly recommend being precise and provide the architects with as many details as possible. Despite that, I received some very interesting projects and lots of inspiration. The architects were very efficient and some of them produced high quality renderings.

I am a computer engineer, and my wife is an architect who has participated in several competitions. In this review, I will evaluate GoPillar from the perspective of an experienced software developer.
**System and Website: 5/5**
The website and user interface (UI) are well-designed and user-friendly. Files can be uploaded and viewed quickly. Overall, they have a very professional system compared to other similar platforms. Small details, such as the remaining time indicator, make users feel they are working with a serious and professional platform. The premium membership system works well as well; you only compete with professional architects on high-quality projects. This ensures that the project files are complete and allows you to learn from the work of other architects. However, there is a big problem with the payment system, which I will explain separately.
**Communication: 1/5**
Even as a premium member, she couldn’t get any response through any communication channels. If you're lucky, you might get a reply to your emails after a week.
**Payment System: 2/5**
Payments can only be made through PayPal. It’s surprising that such a professional platform only offers one payment method. Since PayPal is not available in Turkey, she couldn’t receive the rewards for several competitions she won. However, the membership fee is automatically deducted from her bank account. While there are other payment methods for receiving money, there are no alternatives for payouts. Even though she provided quotes from PayPal’s own website, they insist that PayPal works in Turkey and ask her to open a new account. When she requested other payment options, she was given vague responses like "we are working on it, but it may take months."
With GoPillar I have an opportunity to works on projects which I can not in my everyday job. GoPillar projects are much more interesting than usually architects job, which are very often not so exciting.
Also, working with GoPillar for all those years dramatically improved my skills not just in 3D Architectural visualization but also, which is much more important for me, in designing floor plans, which is crucial for good architectural design, from small scale one person apartment to very large scale objects. I would suggest to every architect or interior designer to pick up at least one project per month, even small scale, just for keeping in good condition.
The only bad thing I could find on GoPillar, is that it is very very addictive, believe me! So, be aware, once starting with one project per month, you will soon ended up with 4-5! And that is the time when real fun comes in! Anyway, I did not regret any single moment for being active on GoPillar for almost 10 years...good luck to everyone!

The prizes are too low given the demands of some projects, and GoPillar makes it difficult (90days+) to withdraw if you're not a premium designer. They want to use a designer's image, resume and experience to build their site, and given the low prices, it sets a bad precedent for clients to expect cheap work from you in real life.

È importante spiegare il progetto nei minimi particolare per far sì che le proposte di progettazione che poi vi arriveranno non si discostino di molto da ciò che volete realizzare. Marco ha semplificato di molto l’approccio ai contest dando consigli sempre molto utili e soprattutto sempre cortesi. I progetti degli architetti di GoPillar sono stati molteplici e tra questi abbiamo scelto quello che si avvicinava di molto alle nostre idee.
I must say that Gopillar was a curious and different way to create solutions in line with what I needed. It is important to explain the project down to the smallest detail to ensure that the design proposals that you receive do not deviate greatly from what you want to achieve. Marco has greatly simplified the approach to contests by giving advice that is always very useful and above all always courteous. There were many projects by GoPillar architects and among these we chose the one that was closest to our ideas.
