The water changing color, even when no feet are in the basin, is a normal part of the ionization process. The color is produced by the interaction between the ionic array, the small amount of salt added to the water, and the natural minerals in the water. As the array operates, it naturally undergoes oxidation, which contributes to the discoloration. This is an expected characteristic of the device and does not indicate that the machine is malfunctioning.
