Homeexchange is a long-time home swapping platform that has given our family over 9 years of amazing experiences, around the world. It just makes sense, and we've had not one bad experience!!

Property damage? You’re on your own

This company claims to have an insurance for when guests break or damage the hosts’ property but that is not the case. Just got back after a 6 month reciprocal exchange to find pet damage to an expensive piece of furniture that guests assured would be covered along with other broken odds and ends, sent photo documentation to HE, and they claim it is “normal wear and tear” and refuse to reimburse a dime. Don’t take any of their claims of guarantees or insurance seriously - they don’t care and it will probably take some litigation and bad press for them to change. In the meantime you should consider drawing up separate contracts with your guests or hiding absolutely anything of value. Or just not using this platform and entering into subleases. It’s a shame because the concept of a reciprocal exchange without money is a much-needed gap in the current Airbnb / sublease market but until someone steps in who can provide good customer support and material assurances, you’re on your own. Shame on this company for claiming it can facilitate anything beyond a posting board for people seeking home exchange.

I have had many great experiences with Home Exchange and recommend it to friends. I do get a little frustrated when I need help and there is no one to call. I wrote a review for recent exchange with Holly and cannot find it. Judy

I did have an SOS situation and emailed…

I did have an SOS situation and emailed HE. The response email was fast and I felt supported. I was hoping for "more" and had to work hard to get it. I would have liked that to have been easier. Many people wouldn't have continued to bother and just been unhappy with what they got. (My husband!). Also, HE said they would ask the host to change or take down her listing and that didn't happen.

Simple process.

Easy clear policies. The process of confirming the exchange was simple. No issues.
