My husband and I have enjoyed many home exchanges and our experience has been wonderful. HomeExchange has made it possible for us to travel much more than we could have otherwise. We have only had very friendly and polite guests that have taken super good care of our apartment.

I definitely recommend using…

I definitely recommend using HomeExchange. It’s a great way to travel and an even better way to meet interesting people along the way. Personally, I prefer reciprocal exchanges, but I’ve also had some great experiences using GuestPoints. You may need to be a little more flexible than when you’re paying for accommodation with money, but I’ve had the chance to stay in some amazing homes and apartments that were absolutely worth that extra bit of flexibility. Give it a try — you might be surprised by the experiences and people you come across!

I regularly review Homeexchange…

I regularly review Homeexchange depending on my recent experience. I’m also a massive fan and have told hundreds of people over the fifteen years. For back ground - I’ve recently been giving my experiences 3 and 4 stars on Trustpilot, as most first homes aren’t clean enough for me. Many people clean their house as if a friend was coming. But I’m not a friend. I’m a guest. And I’m giving them my hard earned points or my barn that I’ve made beautiful in exchange for my stay. I pay a cleaner, window cleaner and grass cutter a total of £210 to make it gorgeous for my guests. My husband and I put away any clutter and coats and bathroom products so it’s like a holiday cottage for their stay. We’re serious about providing a great experience. We’re not casual about it like many people - not that there’s anything wrong with that - unless you’re hosting people with very different standards that is. There’s room on HE for everyone but I do wish people would make it more clear in their adverts that their home was clean but not deep clean or holiday cottage clean. And hosts - if you do get someone like me who gives a four for cleanliness - don’t take the huff. Take the feedback in the helpful spirit that it’s given. Apologise. Thank them for the feedback and then decide if you want to do anything to make your house cleaner or not. That’s up to you. And hosts - it’s not up to a guest to make sure a home is clean enough during the stay by reporting cleanliness issues at the time and showing the cleaner round all the areas that haven’t been done and making sure they have been done to the right standard. You’re the host. It’s your job to do that before arrival. So if you’re thinking of joining HE - and you’re used to an extremely clean house and tidy gardens you may find that many first homes are not clean and tidy enough. Anyway like other members, I will no longer stay in first homes. I will now only stay in second homes that are also rented commercially so I can see they are cleaned regularly to a very high standard and have genuine scores on commercial sites. Scores on HE are not that helpful but I’m really glad they are there anyway. They’re much better than nothing. Most people give a five for everything which they wouldn’t if they were paying cash. So why the five stars on this review. Well firstly I’m really glad: - I can filter out first homes - I can filter out poor responders - Hosts have only four days to respond to requests before it affects their scores. (It takes seconds to reply) Also I recently had a situation where I couldn’t stay in the swap I’d booked for reasons beyond my hosts’ control and HE sorted me out very quickly. I’m a great fan of HE. I tell everyone I know about it but I also tell them that if you like very high levels of cleanliness (everyone is different of course and being very clean doesn’t make you a better person ) then many first homes won’t be clean enough. I hope that’s helpful. Thanks again. A fan!

Great host and lovely place to stay. It’s a separate tiny house in their backyard. Very modern, new, with private parking. Perfect location to all activities in San Diego. Would definitely stay there again!
