My son loved marine biology
My son loved marine biology. It was definitely very challenging for him but he found the coursework interesting and engaging.

We have only done science classes, so I can only reference those but all of them have been incredibly thorough, secular and detailed. I appreciate the options in regards to grading and especially the new 'do it on your own time' option. My kids are not going into 'science fields' so these can work for us, but this should be considered, since there is no live lab options. (There are labs and she provides ways to do it along with her, but not the same (or as safe) as a teacher in the classroom). This past year we took the "on your own time" Astronomy class, but my child has also done Earth Science. Depending on the class and the kid, we vary how much we do for the projects (some are very intensive - but there are always lots of options too!). It's nice to be able to get all the info but vary the workload week to week and grade it myself.
Vertebrate Zoology was an amazing class for a 14 year old who loves animals. The class was easy to sign up for, we received the class details in a timely manner and also received an update when the class was about to begin giving all of the details we would need. Customer service was prompt, we heard back within 12 hours even when the teacher was out of town.
The course (History of Food) was easy to navigate, interesting and very thorough. We really enjoyed the self paced option, so we could complete the course, which was only 4 weeks, over a time period that worked for us between the months of Jan and May. I love the content and structure of Next Level Homeschool courses, and hope that more history and science courses will become available as a self paced option.
My 7th grader really enjoyed Next Level Homeschool's World Geography and Earth Science classes. He was challenged to grow and did so in a variety of ways - from knowledge regarding the specific topics to using Canva and meeting deadlines. The teachers were knowledgeable, clear in their directions, thorough in coverage, and responsive to any questions. We would highly recommend trying out a class or two!
Overall a great experience with Next Level Homeschool and I would use it again. The teachers are knowledgeable and excited about the subject matter. We did The Scientific Method (a short class, which is great to see if it's a good fit for your learner), Medieval Technology, and the Marine Biology series: Marine Bio 101, Marine Zoology Invertebrates session 1 and session 2, and Marine Zoology Vertebrates session 3. Medieval Technology was super interesting and the Marine Bio classes were perfect for my kid whose favorite place to go is the aquarium. I appreciate the flexibility, where as a parent I can decide what assignments/projects we want to do. The dates are a little restrictive though; as a homeschooling family we did some travelling in the fall and had a hard time fitting in all the classes before their deadlines passed. Also my kids preferred one teacher over another, so make sure to use the short intro classes to see who works for you.
Next Level Homeschool has been a cornerstone of our homeschool for over four years now. My daughter, age 15 now, ADORES Mrs. Mary Middlebrook and has taken every course of hers that she can possibly fit in her schedule. She LOVES Marine Biology now, thanks to Mary Middlebrook! She has also taken lots of courses with Mr. Dylan and is signed up for her first course with Ms. Lara. We're SO grateful we found Next Level Homeschool! We highly recommend their courses!
My daughter loves this online platform. Her classes are rigorous, the assignments are well formed, and the quizzes are detailed. She has learned so much from her classes and really enjoys learning from Next Level Homeschool. The classes she has taken and recommends are: -European History Series 1 -Marine Biology -Marine Zoology: Vertebrates -Oceanography Session 1 -Oceanography Session 2 -U.S. History Series 2
We took NextLevel’s Vertebrate Zoology class and it was amazing. My son never complained about working through the lessons, which is amazing for a year long class that’s pretty intensive. We learned so much doing the dissections (they are optional). I was amazed at how much that added to our learning experience. The shark dissection was our favorite! My son is young (grade school) so we just enjoyed the lectures and dissections (skipping most the quizzes). In other words, we focused on absorbing and enjoying the content in a more stress free environment.
My 9th grader took biology, and it was a fantastic experience for him. The course was well-organized and engaging, with a format that made learning feel accessible. Because of his learning disability, it was important to find the right class, and this one was a great fit. The lessons were clear, interactive, and structured in a way that kept him interested. He was genuinely excited to dive into new topics, and the material encouraged him to stay motivated and do well. Seeing his enthusiasm grow throughout the course was incredible, and we’re already looking forward to enrolling him in another class.
The information shared was shared in an easy to follow manner, clear concise and age appropriate. My son was well engaged in all the labs and assignments and really enjoyed taking part in all of it. I liked that grading was optional. My son has never been formally graded on his work before and he found this to be quite a novelty, while I was reassured by it being his own choice to have his work graded by somebody else.
It truly made me blossom as a student allowing me to have a very flexible schedule between riding and doing in person school as well. If I hadn’t went to next level I would’ve been stuck at a computer all day never able to ride, but with Next levels flexible schedule and classes for everyone I wouldn’t have done homeschool ever! I’ve been able to find my own community with the same passions as me from all over the world!
This was our first year with NLH and we had a wonderful experience. My 10th grade son took Oceanography Sessions 1 and 2 and loved it. The course was well organized, and the lessons were challenging, but manageable. My son appreciated the flexibility of various assignments to choose from, and each assignment provided for a deeper understanding of the weekly topic. Mary has a passion for the subject matter, is a wonderful instructor and is easy to communicate with when needed. We were so pleased with the Oceanography course that my son will be taking NLH’s High School Chemistry course starting this Fall. I highly recommend NLH.
My daughter really enjoyed the classes, she could complete them on her own schedule, come back to it when she wanted and received great feedback and enjoyed the assignments.
Thorough instruction, appreciate the response to questions and attention to details in the videos. Educational in a relatable and engaging manner.
Mary, Lara, and Dylan have been teaching my children for 7/8 years. We started with Mary when she only offered a few classes. As she grew, so did my kids and we have taken many of the courses over the years. The method of teaching is perfect for our lifestyle, living in different time zones throughout the year. These types of classes did not exist back then. We have been so fortunate to find nextlevel, it actually saddens me that we are nearly done with them. Oldest is off to college and youngest is a Junior taking mostly dual enrollment. Thank you nextlevel
We have loved Next Level Homeschool! My son has been a student of Mary's now for about a year and a half and he begged me to sign him up for classes through the summer and into the following school year. He loves the way her classes are paced and we love that she seems to really get to know the students understanding of the subject through the assignments. We have tried a lot of other online homeschooling classes and this has been our family's favorite.
I loved that the work each week was easy to follow, and the slides were always interesting, and the pictures were awesome. I also liked that there was a variety of assignments to choose from, and you could use your creativity in how you completed them. The instructor Ms. Middlebrook kept it interesting, fun, and I learned a lot. Would definitely recommend this class to anyone needing Marine Biology.
My son recently finished his final portion of the Marine Biology and Marine Zoology courses, and he started bawling at the end of the final lesson because he didn't want it to be over! He has LOVED every class he has taken with Next Level Homeschool. As a mom, I appreciate the opportunity for him to develop skills for taking quizzes, for critical thinking via the assignments, and having the structured learning these courses offer - but with the flexibility to choose assignments that work best for his learning style. He has learned so much through these courses.
My 12yo daughter loved the Marine Zoology course! I was worried about it being asynchronous, but the lectures were so great that her 8yo brother often enjoyed watching them with her! Mary makes college-level content accessible to younger students. This course even impressed my highly critical, scientist husband - a first for any homeschool science curriculum we’ve tried! We also loved the project-based format which was engaging and perfect for my creative 2e (gifted & adhd) kiddo!
