R1300GSA SIDE STAND REVIEW
I ordered the side stand for the R1300GSA and it arrived in reasonable time. On inspection the part is well made from machined steel, the extended spread of the foot is perfect for my gravel driveway. Installing the part was very easy, and does not require a spring puller, but there does seem to be more free play at the rotation point than on the BMW unit. My issue is with the two screws that secure the two parts of the side stand together. They are not made from quality steel, and in fact the hex head stripped under very little torque, requiring me to drill it out! I then fitted locally sourced high quality screws and nuts. This is poor as the design creates a shear on the screws under load, ie. bike on side stand, but so does the competition version which I also bought to try out. in fact it's worse as the shear load is on the countersink head of the screws. At least the Nicecnc version is not chamfered and accepts a flat head bolt. Also the Nicecnc bolts are a good length, passing through both the stand parts. The competitions are very short and only secure one side. Also the bar to lower the stand is longer and easier to use than the competitions version. However, because of the excessive free play at the hinge point my choice was to remove the Nicecnc version and install the competitions side stand. So final judgement is reserved as I think the connection of the two parts of the Nicecnc unit is stronger.
