Alibaba Trade Assurance – The Worst Dispute & Customer Service Experience
Title: Alibaba Trade Assurance has been one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had Order ID: 304835503001028706 I rarely write reviews like this, but my experience with Alibaba Trade Assurance and its dispute process has been absolutely appalling. Thankfully, my purchase was relatively small — a hair topper — because this experience has shown me that I would NEVER feel comfortable making a large or expensive purchase through Alibaba while relying on their advertised Money-Back Protection. My dispute has been ongoing since I received the goods on 31 July 2026. Before the order proceeded, I specifically told the seller in writing: “I don't want Ash colour.” The seller told me the wording on the payment/invoice was “just a payment link” and told me to rely on what we had discussed. I also specifically required the seller to show me the FINAL product before shipment. The seller actually stated: “I will show before I shipping so you can confirm again.” I repeated this requirement before shipment. When I later asked the seller “Where is the confirmation and photos?”, the seller responded that he would show me when the topper was done. The product was subsequently shipped without me ever approving the final goods and arrived substantially grey/ashy and different from what I requested. I provided Alibaba with extensive dated evidence including conversations, photographs, my original hair reference, instructions before production, my requirement for final approval, my immediate complaint after delivery and the seller's own statements. Despite this, Alibaba repeatedly states: “The goods were confirmed prior to shipment.” I have repeatedly asked Alibaba: SHOW ME THE EVIDENCE WHERE I APPROVED THE FINAL GOODS BEFORE SHIPMENT. They have still not identified it. A seller taking a photograph/video before shipment is NOT evidence that the buyer received and approved it. The handling of my complaint has been incredibly frustrating. I have dealt with numerous online agents, repeatedly been told the matter was escalated to senior specialists, waited for promised responses, received generic answers and been sent around in circles. On 13 August, Alibaba's Trade Dispute Mediation Team even stated: “According to Article 57 of Chapter 10 of the AliExpress International Dispute Resolution Rules, the seller cannot be held liable.” This was an Alibaba.com Trade Assurance dispute, yet they were citing an AliExpress dispute rule. I challenged its relevance and asked Alibaba to clarify the basis on which it was being applied. Following this, I received numerous emails from Alibaba Customer Service representatives including Maria, Jesus, Joyce and Jhey. I was repeatedly asked to wait another 24 hours and assured I would receive a response. These communications are documented. I was then instructed to reapply for the refund and open another case. I did exactly that and again submitted comprehensive evidence, only for the claim to be declined without the central evidentiary issue being addressed. Alibaba heavily promotes Trade Assurance and Money-Back Protection to give buyers confidence. Based on my experience, I would NEVER rely on that protection for a significant purchase. I have also reported my experience through appropriate Australian consumer-protection channels so there is a record of the difficulties I experienced attempting to rely on Alibaba's advertised buyer protection. UPDATE – 29 AUGUST 2026 Alibaba has now publicly responded to this review stating: “We have escalated your case to the appropriate team.” Unfortunately, THIS GENERIC RESPONSE PERFECTLY DEMONSTRATES THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN MY REVIEW. I have already been told repeatedly by email that my case was “escalated”, asked to wait another 24 hours and promised responses from appropriate/senior teams. Alibaba, please stop posting generic escalation responses and answer the question you continue to avoid: WHAT EXACT EVIDENCE SHOWS THAT I APPROVED THE FINAL GOODS BEFORE SHIPMENT? You repeatedly state the goods were “confirmed prior to shipment”, yet despite my repeated requests you have never identified the message, date or evidence showing my alleged approval. PRODUCE THE EVIDENCE. Your public response unfortunately reinforces my concerns about the communication, investigation and professionalism I have experienced throughout this dispute. I would not recommend Alibaba based on this experience.
