While I feel dirty shopping at any big box store, my experience with my purchases at Home Depot have always been usually more that just satisfactory. Regardless of whether I shop in the store or online. I have had no problems returning any item for any reason. I expect most people have my experience, that is why so many people shop there. It is unfortunate that the reviews on TrustPilot are so unrepresentative of the general experience.
