The value is in long-term health
I have a Daniff (Great Dane/English Mastiff). I've had him since being weened (8 weeks old). Since bringing him home, it's been a much greater challenge than what was anticipated. Albeit knowing he wouldn't be cheap given he's a Giant Breed, allergies and GI issues were not something I anticipated given his age. It took a bit of trial and error before finding a diet that allowed for his GI issues to subside. After doing some research, I started him on the CBD's with the hope that he would calm a bit and have better bowel movements, etc. He remains pretty active but has developed an aggression to other dogs, so behavior training never ceases. Having started CBD's almost a year ago, I have noticed a decrease in vet visits along with a calmer demeanor. He's quite happy and healthy, his coat is super soft, he loves people and being petted. His size intimidates many which is understandable but not practical; he picks up on people's anxiety which (in turn), makes him nervous and can cause him to growl. On the other hand, I can take him into memory care facilities that allow dogs, where he becomes the "gentle giant" that the residents love. Often times he's mistaken for a therapy dog around the elderly. "Murray" is now 3 years old and 120 pounds and allergy issues are way better controlled. Giant breed dogs cost a small fortune to feed, but I am delighted that the investment made to keep him happy and healthy does not include medications and vet visits that terrify him.
