RatePunk

Canadian travellers beware

Canadian travellers beware — prices may be in USD I am extremely disappointed with RatePunk. I used RatePunk to find a flight from Kelowna, Canada to Cancun. The fare looked very attractive, and I went through the booking process believing I had found a good deal. It wasn't until the very end that I realized the price was in US dollars, not Canadian dollars. After booking, I checked the same flight directly with WestJet Canada. The fare shown there was essentially the same numerical price — but in Canadian dollars. In other words, what looked like a bargain through RatePunk was not a bargain for me at all once the currency conversion was taken into account. I accept that the currency may have been disclosed somewhere in the booking process, but it certainly was not prominent enough for me to understand that the attractive fare I was looking at was USD. For a service marketing flight deals to Canadians and showing flights departing from Canadian airports, I think the currency needs to be absolutely unmistakable from the moment the fare is displayed — not something a customer discovers at the end. My advice to other Canadians: before booking anything you find through RatePunk, check the exact same flight directly with the Canadian airline and make sure you are comparing CAD with CAD. I wish I had. I would have booked directly with WestJet and saved myself a considerable amount of money.
