MoviePass

I was really excited at first but I've done the math...

I was really excited at first and was feeling good about the MoviePass experience. I joined right away at the $20/mo tier. It worked out to about 29 cents per credit. Movies were as little as 14 credits during the week, lots more on the weekends, so I learned quickly to only see movies Sunday through Thursday. Then Thursday started being a high credit day so I switched to Sunday through Wednesday. Then I became a senior and it was cheaper for me to not use the pass for a matinee. Then the minimum credit went up to 24. But as long as I was careful about what times and days I saw the movies, MoviePass was still a deal. THEN, about two weeks ago, credits went up to 36 per movie, even for a matinee. That made it at least 50 cents more than I would pay not using MoviePass, sometimes as much as $3.50 more, minimum. I repeatedly wrote to customer support and received scripted responses that didn't address my question. I'll also mention that I'd been requesting they put my local theater on the list, a Regal just a block away, but nine months later, it's still not on the list and the theater does not accept MoviePass. Anyway, I'm not sure why MoviePass exists. The only way I see it making a profit is if people neglect to see a movie during the month they pay for. To rely on forgetfulness is a bad business plan (in my opinion). I really wanted MoviePass to work. It's fun being part of an exclusive fan club. But the lack of interaction with other fans, the terrible customer service, and the lack of an actual discount makes it unacceptable.
