Solid, re-useable learning resources…
When I arrived in China last September I knew only a few words and was an absolute beginner. I had had a couple of lessons with a native speaker but was unable to express even the most basic of sentences in a supermarket, coffee shop or at the market. Silk Mandarin's course has made a difference as it offers a solid grounding in the language which meant I was quickly able to make myself understood in short exchanges and build some confidence. The fact that their online resources are available for revising and reviewing at any time also means students can manage independent study with stimulating audio-visual materials. The most surprising element of these are the 'real-life' dialogue videos which give the learner insight into daily life and tendencies in Shanghai. The school was recommended to me by a colleague who had tried other schools previously and had particularly enjoyed Silk Mandarin's approach to teaching the tones. The 1-to-1 course I was offered with Qiying when I needed to change the timetable was highly satisfying as she's a splendid, thoughtful and stimulating teacher who's always available with support and helpful feedback. Overall, I would recommend the school to those who are committed 100% to learning and want to improve quickly.
