Avoid Cina Eastern.
We did flights from Brisbane to Spain via Shanghai. Overall, we were very disappointed. The small saving in cost was grossly outweighed by the overall bad experience. The major problems were the crew and food served. Let me start with the food. Food was of poor quality and lacked variety, taste and appeal. I would give the food a one-star. No additional snacks were available, no alcohol, no fruit and it was hard to get even a drink of water outside of trolley times. Mostly, the staff could not communicate in English. They did not know how to describe the food except for "scripted" lines. Of the eight meals we were served during our flights, there was only two choices. Chicken with rice, or pork with rice. Even breakfast was those two choices. They consistently ran out of soft drinks, so water was all you have. As for the staff. They could not communicate effectively in English. Everything was too much trouble. They shut-down everything an hour out from arrival, closed the toilets and sat in the seats. More emphasis on process rather than actual customer service. The entertainment system is terrible. Mostly Chinese movies and the occasional english one from ten years ago. Flight information did not work at all on two of the four flights. No usable and no online check-in. Never again. Pay the extra $100. Fly on a decent one, not this third-tier super-budget airline.
