ATA Medical

I went to Novena branch for a medical…

I went to Novena branch for a medical check-up to renew my vocational licence. Was treated so badly by the female staff at the counter. I cannot tell if she is a nurse or just a non-medical staff. Definitely with her attitude she should not be working in the medical industry. She registered my personal particulars and understood what I was in there for. Then she asked me to a room where she conduct the required tests on me. I was aware such check up includes taking height, weight and bp. I was glad to see the weighing machine and told her I'd like to know my weight as I had been exercising a lot lately to reduce it. The machine was very modern which I have not seen it before. I do not visit clinics much. So, I was hesitant to step up to this weighing machine until I receive instructions from her. She did not give specific instructions as to whether I should face the machine or lean my back against it. She just told me to step up to the machine. I did exactly as told facing the machine. No single briefings as to how the machine will move. She just turned the machine on and walked out of the room, leaving me alone there. As the machine was doing its reading, suddenly I felt a metal plate pressing down with pressure against my head. I was shocked and quickly stepped down from the machine. She came immediately into the room and reprimanded me with her condescending tone: "You want to know your weight, right?" And she start the machine again. With an angry look she stepped out of the room again. I felt so humiliated by her attitude and did not understand what did I do wrong for her uncalled behaviour. As patient, we always in the vulnerable state and always do what the doctors or staffs tell us what to do, to make their job easier treating us. But it is not fair to treat me with such disdain just because I do not know how the machine works. I would if only she briefly explain to me before she turn the machine on and run out. And she failed to give the attending doc my contact number such that the doc had to ask me again. She also quoted wrong and higher medical fees chargeable to me. Very inefficient, and impatient and lacks empathy. The attending doc, (Dr Chan) is very nice and I did tell her I might come back for a full health screening. But I am too afraid to encounter this impatient counter staff again. I cannot imagine being poke here or there by her just to draw blood out from my veins....
