Hainan Airlines
Hainan Airlines — 18-Day Baggage Nightmare, Zero Accountability My checked baggage was held at Beijing Capital Airport due to a security check on my outbound flight (HU407, Edinburgh, 19 June 2026). For 18 days across my entire holiday in Scotland, London and Morocco, Hainan Airlines sent me ZERO updates despite two open PIR cases. I was forced to buy all essential clothing and toiletries myself — £1,276.61 in total. I eventually had to personally locate my own baggage using lounge staff during my return through Beijing. The airline did nothing. When I submitted a formal legal claim under the Montreal Convention, Hainan Airlines replied TWICE with the exact same copy-paste response: "We have urged the relevant department to handle your case." No case handler. No acknowledgement of the claim. No payment timeline. I have now escalated to the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), and the Hong Kong Consumer Council. Avoid Hainan Airlines if you value your belongings and your time.
