I’ve used Best Buy for years and have generally had good experiences and customer service—until now. I purchased an open-box item online listed in “Excellent” condition and received a notification that it was ready for pickup. After driving an hour to the store, I was told the product was missing all parts and accessories. The associate acknowledged that it had been listed incorrectly. Mistakes happen, but Best Buy refused to offer any compensation. At a minimum, I asked whether they could validate my parking; they declined. I then spent more than an hour on the phone with four customer-service agents. The first agent initially suggested that I drive another hour back to the store to speak with a manager. Ultimately, Best Buy canceled the order and told me it was against company policy to offer store credit or a gift card for the wasted trip, more than two hours of driving, and the parking expense. I previously bought appliances for my properties from Best Buy, but I will not be doing so going forward. My advice: if you buy an open-box item for store pickup, call ahead and ask the store to verify its condition and included accessories before making the trip.
