iROCKER

Dangerous Seam Separation on the Water - iRocker offered a coupon

I paid $1,379 before tax for a 2021 BLACKFIN Model X, expecting a premium paddleboard to last. After roughly five years, a structural side seam opened while I was on calm Lake Erie. The board had been inflated to 15 PSI and used normally. I heard air escaping and saw bubbles while still on the water—a potentially serious safety failure. iROCKER acknowledged that a board with an opened seam may no longer be safe and said they cannot guarantee its integrity, yet denied any replacement because the three-year warranty had expired. Their proposed resolution was a non-stackable discount worth no more than $75 toward buying another board. They also mentioned local or YouTube repairs while simultaneously saying they could not guarantee the board’s safety. My serial number is outside the published 2022 BLACKFIN recall ranges, but the failure itself—seam separation—is materially similar to the hazard involved in that recall. For an expensive product whose structural failure could leave someone stranded in the water, I expected more than a strict warranty cutoff and a small sales coupon. I cannot recommend iROCKER or BLACKFIN based on the product’s durability or the company’s response to a serious safety-related failure.
