Reviewers overwhelmingly had a great experience with this company. Customers consistently praise the software for being extremely easy to use, noting that it handles format conversions and removes DRM restrictions smoothly. People deeply appreciate how fast and intuitive the clean interface is, allowing them to effortlessly manage and back up their digital libraries across multiple reading devices.
However, some customers also noted that recent updates to reading platforms can break software compatibility, occasionally causing the program to stop working properly. A few users additionally mentioned that the free trial version is too limited or that certain stubborn files fail to convert as expected.
The program allowed me to freely convert 20% of one e-book. Then it said if I wrote a positive and verified review, commented on their youtube, or translated an article for them (etc.) I could get the program for free. At least it didn't seem to have any malware, but to say it is free is definitely false advertising.
I have been struggling for hours trying to read my kindle book on Linux (the particular book doesn't work in kindle cloud reader). The only solution I've found that works is Epubor! I installed Epubor on a Windows computer, and was finally able to decrypt my book and copy it to Linux. I appreciated that I got both EPUB and PDF versions. The only reason I'm not giving five stars is because of the cost.
I was excited to try this out given the high reviews but on their website, half of the 5-starts were actually the company "replying" to their customers as they rated themselves.
As for the program itself, it did not work at all despite the several tutorials I have tried. Mac users beware, it is a will suck you into hours of futility. For the most part, I feel like I wasted decent money on this and still haven't heard from customer service for a refund. You're just bombarded with more tutorials.
That's another thing, their tickets don't work and you aren't issued any official number -- you just get contacted with a Gmail account which doesn't seem very reliable. I will change this rating when I finally get my money back because I will still like to try the Windows version. That "trial" version went better even if you are not able to convert a full book.
Update: It works if you download and use an earlier version of Kindle. Support did respond. Have to change my review.
Original: Cannot get this to work. Support is unavailable. Complete loss.
Digital Rights Management (DRM) is about restrictions not rights. If you buy an ebook, you should be free to use as you would a print copy that you purchased. DRM is not in the consumer's interest. Fortunately, there's an app for that and it's called Epubor Ultimate. It works very well to get round DRM.
While they make their webpage easy to read and follow, there's a lot of 'gotchas' that you aren't made aware of.
You don't get to use this product for free, even though the link says "download for free". Technically yes, you do get to dl the software for free, but not use it fully.
So then you go back and they say "get your free trial" but you then have to jump through more hoops to even get that. It really makes you wonder if the software is even worth it!
Using it for the example conversion I did seemed fairly straight forward which I appreciate. But it's still not all together easy to grasp.
I think that if Epubor was more open and honest about everything instead of luring people, it would not leave such a bad impression.
Thanks so much for creating this app. I don't like reading on my laptop at night because it's uncomfortable, and also there are blue light/sleep issues. I don't have a Kindle so I wanted to convert my amazon book purchases to pdf and read them on an old e-reader that can only access pdf's. I have tried many apps with no success, but, then I found Epubor Ultimate. What a great app. It took a little tinkering to get it to work for me, but work it did. The only downside is that the trial option only gives you a txt file pdf containing 20% of the book. But, now that I know it works I will consider buying it.
I badly needed to print out a book in order to make notes and study for my phd. I finally found a super solution that seems to work. And i am really glad i looked! Although for a student it is rather pricey, and i wish there was a more temporary licence for a cheaper price (like 1 month subscription or x books conversion licence), but with intensive reads this could pay off.
For me it was more important to be able to print it and read it off screen for my personal use.
Overall, if you are looking to convert your epubs, this is the answer! I have only taken one star off because you do need to downgrade your kindle reader in order for it to work. Small inconvenience :)
Anyway, thank you Epubor!
