Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complained about unhelpful staff and poor customer service, noting long wait times and difficulties reaching a live agent through automated systems or chatbots. Travelers also experienced unexpected extra charges and a frustrating booking process that made managing flights and changing schedules extremely difficult.
Though some reviewers were happy with the cabin crew and short-haul flights, a few passengers found the staff to be surprisingly accommodating during unexpected travel situations. Consumers occasionally mentioned that basic flights operated smoothly when everything went according to plan without major disruptions. People noted that clean aircraft and professional onboard personnel improved parts of their journey.
We flew from Krabi to DMG in Jan 2026. Couldn’t fault them. From start to finish it was a great experience. Helpful staff at Krabi airport and really pleasant staff on the plane. Plane was a new A321 and plenty of room and great value. Highly recommended and it have no problem flying with Air Asia again.
EXCESSIVE BAGGAGE CHARGES & RUDE ATTENDANT COUNTER SUPPORT
The baggage information posted online after check-in was inconsistent with what was enforced at the counter. I was charged ¥1,600 per kg for excess checked baggage and ¥2,500 per kg for excess carry-on, totaling ¥31,300.
Online check-in limits checked baggage to 30 kg, and any excess is charged at a very high rate—effectively offsetting any shopping or fare savings in Japan. I had already paid approximately PHP 4,000 for the 30 kg allowance, yet an additional 20 kg cost nearly PHP 12,000.
The counter attendant was unhelpful and did not clearly explain the charges or provide alternatives—only insisting on payment. Card payment was also problematic, as cards with protective covers could not be read due to very fast swiping, tap payment was not accepted, and only Japanese Yen was allowed (no USD).
Overall, the initial flight savings were not worth the excessive baggage costs and poor customer experience.
Love Air asia so much. I made a mistake in the name when booking for a friend of my friend due to I have not seen her details in the passport carefuly. And I can go to Chat with Bo now to change the name of the same person very quick. Thank you so much.
Each in-flights experience that truly embodies an LCC — it feels almost like being locked in a prison.
You just have to endure it, because it’s an LCC after all.
2 flights in 2 days that are delayed.
The boarding staff in Bangkok were all over the place.
The flights just aren’t a good price anymore like they used to be.
I was on the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Karachi.
I witnessed a male cabin crew shouting really badly on a passenger. I can understand that some passengers can be irritating but this gives no right to the crew to shout at them. I felt bad about the incident
Delays, delays, delays. Over four hours on one flight (and that was scheduled at 4.30am, and finally left at 10am) and then over an hour on another. Plus they have a strict 7kg limit on carry on to top it off. I'm not looking forward to coming home. If you can afford, avoid, you might pay dearly in missed connections.
Generally, the flight went OK. What bothers me is their luggage weight requirement to be able to put it in the overhead bin. They only allow 7 kg then they want to charge you $30 plus a bag to check them. On the way to Thailand my bags were fine, on the way home. They say they’re too heavy with the exact same content. My bag charge was $65 on the way home. The overhead bends were virtually empty. Was the scale faulty? I wonder!
Bought the tickets with my friends because it seems cheaper. But our flight got delayed upon arrival at the airport, and there was no information given about the reason or how long the delay would be. I had already checked in and ended up stuck inside the boarding area with nothing to do.
It’s honestly the worst way to end a vacation.
We had 4 flights booked, 3 out of the 4 were rescheduled, sitting at airport waiting for flight to then be told oh its rescheduled again! so frustrating!! We also had a flight where was asked to sit next to each other had booked the tickets on same transaction to be told we had to pay & that as the flight was full had to pay for the exit row, we said yes to then get on the plane and the plane was maybe half full!!! the only good thing about airasia was the cabin crew who were all so friendly and nice on all 4 flights.
I tried many airlines and despite having bigger names in the industry service is better in this particular one. Price is cheaper too. Obvious choice for me
Avoid AirAsiaX at all costs. No one deserves to be treated like this.
My flight with AirAsiaX itself went smoothly, but what happened after landing was absolutely unacceptable.
When my brother and I arrived in Kuala Lumpur, the immigration machine tore his passport. As a result, he was denied entry to Malaysia — which we completely understood. However, since he couldn’t enter the country, he was placed under the responsibility of AirAsiaX, and that’s when everything turned into a nightmare.
My brother was detained for three days in what they called a “waiting room,” but it was more like a cell: over 70 people crammed into a small, overheated room (around 30°C), sleeping and eating on the floor, with no Wi-Fi and very limited access to toilets.
The AirAsia security staff (wearing AirAsia badges) were extremely rude, verbally aggressive, and intimidating. Only two of them showed any respect or basic humanity. It was impossible to ask questions or get any information.
Meanwhile, the embassy specifically asked me to stay in Kuala Lumpur to follow the situation and not leave my brother alone. This forced me to extend my stay, pay for several extra hotel nights, buy new flight tickets, and cover many transportation costs — including countless Uber rides between the embassy and the airport where my brother was being held.
Thanks to our embassy’s efforts, a laissez-passer was eventually obtained so that he could return home. But even then, AirAsiaX continued to make things worse: they refused to transfer him from one terminal to another (from T2 to T1), refused to handle his luggage, and delayed the process so much that he missed his flight. We had to buy new tickets at our own expense and spend an additional night at the airport — all because of their negligence and lack of organization.
This experience was traumatic, inhumane, and completely unacceptable.
I have traveled extensively around the world and have never seen an airline treat passengers this way — especially one that claims to be the “World’s Best Low-Cost Airline.”
We lost money, time, and peace of mind.
AirAsiaX’s behavior was disgraceful and deserves to be investigated.
I have photo evidence supporting everything I’ve stated here.
Avoid AirAsiaX at all costs. No one deserves to be treated like this.
I took three flights with AirAsia - Bangkok to Phuket, Phuket to Kuala Lumpur, and back. Online check-in worked fine, and boarding was organized, though the queues were long. The seats are narrow and not the most comfortable for tall people, but it’s expected for a low-cost airline. Cabin crew were polite and efficient. On one flight there was a 40-minute delay, but they kept us updated and offered water, which I appreciated. Luggage arrived without issues, and prices were definitely competitive. If you just need to get from point A to B cheaply, it’s a solid choice.
Beware to weight your luggage before hand cause them scales are piece of art scam system hahahaha no problem I pay the 40 dollar extra just to shush your mouth but people know that their scales weight much more. Btw your bali chicken was not bad other airlines can take a example of the food oh and also delayed for 1 hour not bad this time.
7 kg maximum for a hand luggage and personal item? This is a JOKE
7 kg maximum for a hand luggage and a personal item? What in the name of... is this ? It would be better to tell passengers just to carry one of them!
They charged us for overweight an additional 60 EUR
This happened on a flight from Shanghai to Kuala Lumpor. For such long trips, you cant have maximum 7 kgr !!!!
I dont have any other complain, staff was friendly, the plane was generally comfortable but the 7 kg max weight was a JOKE!
We had issues with flight changes and partner airline not sync, I then completed a review as per the email I received and I welcomed they cared for feedback - about meals being forgotten about , carpet bubbling and a trip hazard, and also was going to meantion that if we book together we would expect to sit together but no you have then go and change your seat and pay extra for that right. But then at the end I got a bot message that they sorry but they will discard my review and asked me to try again. So no I came here instead
Absolutely no issues to speak of. Staff throughout were pleasant and professional. Seats were decent for our 1.5 hour flight (a320). When I return to Asia, I will have no issues booking with them again.
