The brochure said I'd need to be able to walk on cobblestones, need to be able to embark/disembark from a bus. It did not say that there'd be EXTENSIVE slanting walks on pea gravel or that one day when I could not take a taxi to keep up with the group,I'd be subjected to the Bataan Death March. I ended up skipping 2+ days of the tour and hanging out on my own.
The menu given for the Tivoli Garden dinner was - for me - a bust: white asparagus season was past (as you should've checked out) and for that teensy squab to have died for me to have 3 Tbl of meat and 2 Tbl of stuffing was a crime; and the restaurant was next to the outside bandstand, which made conversation impossible one their noise began. The waitresses must've had to pay for bread and butter from their own pockets, as we practically had to beg for bread and butter. Forget that place!
What happened on two previous AHI trips happenened again: people in pairs or couples made NO effort to get to know me, which resulted in my spending much solo time getting to know the locals, which was very rewarding.
The trip highlight for me was the trip to Aeroskobing, where the visits to the brewery, which gave us the best meal of the trip, and to the soap factory, were wonderful. I liked the island so much that Iwouldn't mind living there, if I could tackle the language. Our dinner there at the hotel of free-range chicken was terrific.
Our bus driver was lousy, alternately hitting the gas- and brake-pedals, and not being able to execute smooth turning. He slammed into gear Once, before I was seated, he slammed into gear, resulting in a hard whack to my knee, which took days to calm down. Also, he was so weird about our using the toilet on the bus - we didn't know it was there until the last 2 days - that I ended up someplace peeing under a tree.

AH-mazing experience (if you can stay out of the Tuscan sun)
Overall, I absolutely LOVED the experience. Our country manager was wonderful as were all the guest lecturers. Meals were great and I much appreciated all the help getting around the city (though several in our group were, unfortunately, robbed on the tram). The only reason I didn't give the full five stars is that, as far as I can tell, there is absolutely no reason to be in Florence in July. I would do this type of trip in pretty much any other city, I loved the whole immersion aspect.

The entire tour was very well conducted, and exceeded my expectations. The non-D Day sites were as satisfying as the Beaches. The food and restaurants were excellent. The Tour Director did an excellent job for all of us.

All AHI staff were very informative and if we had questions they were quick to find answers. Our days were filled with great day trips and activities, but we still had time explore on our own and to shop!

Nani was great, she was well organized and able to make adjustments on the fly to help some of the group. The guides were great too, very knowledgeable and well spoken. We loved the variety of the locations we visited and the ability to have some free time to explore on our own.

This company was selected by the Kansas State Alumni Travel folks. There were 20 of us on this trip. Our AHI Travel Director was Rainer Groeting and what a blessing he was. He was excellent. We traveled to Honfleur and took day trips to the Omaha Beaches, the Normandy American Cemetery with its 9,389 grave markers. We visited the museums and Mont Saint Michel. Each location had a local guide that provided wonderful insights. This company truly adds to our travel experience.

What made the trip great was our guides, Nani and Jessica primarily. They were very knowledgeable in the history and geography of the places that we went. When any little issue might arise, like a bus not fitting a street, they handled it without drama or hesitation. They took care of the whole group meticulously. Very personable and engaging.
