Just Incredible!

MU 5186/551 5 stars does not do it justice! Just got home after the beat business class experience ever after flights from Beijing/Shanghai/London with China Eastern Airlines! From the VIP check in to lounges, showers, private transfers,to the wonderful seats and food but the true highlight was the wonderful staff!! I will 100 percent fly again with China Eastern!

I didn’t like flying with them

I didn’t like flying with them. Why? First of all, a flight attended told me several times I couldn’t use my earphones while on the plane. I showed her the instructions pamphlet provided to all passengers where it CLEARLY SAID earphones were only prohibited during taxiing, taking off or landing but she didn’t care… I asked if I could use my earphones without music or if they could provide me with earplugs but she said no. I had to endure a whole flight without any distractions and with noisy people around me. Also, an extra flight was added to my initial itinerary without my consent. So I landed somewhere I didn’t know I was going to and, the next flight was delayed by 2 hours so I missed my last flight. After taking the delayed flight, I had to figure out by myself how to get to the transfer counter and ask for another flight…I slept at the airport and got a flight by Turkish Airlines. Worst journey in my life!

China Eastern Airlines Seat Cancellation In the system due to timing changes and didn’t reinstate all seats pre booked are cancelled not able to rebook online

We purchased our tickets via Trip.com for flight MU9647 from Kunming to Singapore, scheduled at 21:30 (revised timing) on 31 March 2026. Our seats were selected and confirmed at the time of booking. However, due to a flight retiming, our pre-selected seats were cancelled without reinstatement. When attempting to reselect seats online, the system did not allow any changes and instead required us to complete seat allocation during check-in. To our surprise and disappointment, we were assigned separate middle seats at check-in. This was highly inconvenient and unacceptable, particularly as we had already secured our seats in advance and the change was not initiated by us. Although the ground staff and duty managers attempted to assist, we were informed that all seats had been allocated and no further action could be taken. We also observed passengers seated separately across rows (all assigned to R seats at least 2-3rows) communicating with each other, indicating that better seat management could have been exercised to avoid leaving only middle seats available. Furthermore, the handling at the check-in counter was unsatisfactory. The duty managers appeared unable to take proactive steps to resolve the issue, and their responses suggested limitations in coordinating seat adjustments, despite indicating otherwise. This gave the impression that the issue was not addressed with sufficient effort.

Customer service

I went and asked a question about a booking of mine. When I went to double check if all the information was correct the staff member just threw me out and reset the whole system. I waited for 2 hours to get through the queue and then when I went to double check if everything was alright they threw me out of their system so I had to go through everything again for my question.

Disappointing experience on China…

Disappointing experience on China Eastern flight MU745 from Auckland to Buenos Aires on March 30, 2026. My seat (42K) would not recline, and although I asked the cabin crew for help, neither a repair nor a seat change was possible. On a flight of more than 11 hours, this is simply unacceptable. Comfort is a basic expectation on a long-haul flight. The onboard service and crew were good, but this issue overshadowed the positive aspects of the trip. Because of this experience, I would not choose to fly with China Eastern again and would not recommend the airline to others.

Their customer service is by far the…

Their customer service is by far the worst ever! No email replies ever, their chat system is appalling, nobody answers the phone (not even their international line), and good luck if you don't speak Chinese! Even their international websites are in broken English, have broken links, or show messages in Chinese, even though you're on an English website. No luck trying to check in from their website either, and the app is just useless in any other country other than China. All in all, THE WORST!!!!

客户在飞机上就喷洒杀虫喷雾

Sprayed like an insect with insecticide before takeoff inside the cabin. Absolutely zero warning on the ticket, zero warning in English, Mandarin was an announcement that occurred as the spray began. People were left coughing and sneezing. I was given a mask 5 minutes after asking. Ended up with a rash for three days. Have a heart condition so cant take that risk again. Was told its regulations. What, to spray people? Its unnecessary and can be done before boarding. Oh this was between its Sydney and Auckland leg. I was told it would also be done on its route back to Sydney. Absolute insanity with no regards for peoples health. And no, the spray is not safe for everyone. My ticket is non refundable- booked through Trip.com and was told its refundable but was shown the policy for the first leg only. Second leg turns out to be non refundable unless I find the time to take myself to a hospital to say Im unfit to fly. Tried to get online customer service directly with China Eastern. Rude staff. Was told to complain to trip.com. The problem is with China Eastern Air and its outdated methods of carrying out sprays. The only reason they didnt get one star was, the staff seemed concerned with my wellbeing and checked in on me when I refused to take my mask off or eat during the poisonous flight. Wont be taking China Eastern ever again and I travel a lot. Will be encouraging everyone I know never to fly them.

The worst flight experience

The worst flight experience. A terrible airline, a nightmare. On the outbound flight from Venice to Shanghai, it was never possible to use the bathroom sinks to wash our hands because there was no water. Once we landed in Bangkok, we discovered that one wheel of the suitcase had been broken. After more than 24 hours of traveling, because of the exhaustion we asked if it would be possible to file a report once we returned to Italy, and they told us yes. However, at Phuket Airport on our way back home they told us that it was not possible to file any report. On the Phuket–Shanghai flight the reclining seat was broken. It felt more like a toy plane than a real one. On the outbound trip they broke one wheel of my suitcase, but once I arrived in Bangkok after more than 24 hours awake, I didn’t file the report because they told me that a photo would be enough as proof, which I did. In the end, this information was not true and of course they didn’t refund me anything. A disgrace!!!

Avoid this airline

Avoid this airline if you have a chance. Unusable web site, no online check in possible. Family of 3 had to fly NRT-PVG-VCE separated. 5 hours delay on PVG-VCE day 26/2 with NO EXPLANATIONS. Poor beverage choice onboard, no wine/beer. Food as well, was really bad. No soap in lavatories. IFE really poor on movie choice. Never again.

We had a great experience from check-in to deplaning

China Eastern Flight TPE to PVG 15:00 February 24, 2026. I read a few comments and I totally agree that sometimes people only write a review when they have had a bad experience. My wife and I travel full time and this was our first time flying with China Eastern. The website could use some improvement, but I was able to book our flight fairly easily and pick our seats. The luggage allowance is clearly indicated on the website and we always make sure we are within the limits. We are vegans so we preordered our vegan meals ahead of time. If you have dietary restrictions, then you must order your meals at least 48 hours ahead of time. And the website clearly states if there’s a change of planes or a change of any type your meal may be guaranteed. I was able to add my frequent flyer number to my ticket, but I was not able to add my wife’s frequent flyer number to her ticket nor was I able to order a vegan meal for her. Since I don’t speak Chinese, I use the chat feature on their website to communicate the two issues I had. The customer service rep was able to add a vegan meal for my wife’s ticket and gave me a contact number to add her frequent flyer number. We had premium Coach tickets so we were able to check in via the sky priority check-in line. Check-in was easy and quick and we proceeded towards the gate. Boarding was very orderly and we were able to again use the sky-priority line. The plane was very clean and the seats were very roomy, especially for tall person like myself. The vegan meal was very good and the service from the staff was excellent. I see many comments about the language barrier and we understand not everyone can speak English, but we have always manage to communicate what we need. The flight was only one hour and a half so we didn’t even turn on the monitor. Leaving the plane was fairly straightforward. Immigration and Customs was effortless. Well the line for the locals was very long. One of the best flights we’ve had and we would definitely fly with China Eastern again.

Very very bad

Very very very bad! Unfortunately, I suffered from severe food poisoning during the flight, which led to an extremely distressing and painful journey of twelve hours. I experienced multiple episodes of vomiting, diarrhea, and severe dehydration. At one point, I lost consciousness due to the severity of my condition. Despite my visibly critical state, I was deeply disappointed by the lack of assistance from the cabin crew. No one checked on me, offered medical support, or even inquired about my well-being throughout the entire flight. They did not call through the intercom to request for a paramedic passenger on the plane. No one offered me a place where I could lay down, I had to sit up straight while being in this critical state. The absence of proper care and attention from the airline staff was both shocking and unacceptable. As a passenger in distress, I expected at least basic medical attention and concern from the crew, but instead, I was left to suffer without any support. It was very distressing and skairy for my husband and son, who were helping me to get through the 12 hour flight and being confronted with the fact I was doing really really bad, and were not able to wake me because I was unconsiousness. The only attention they gave in the last hour was measuring my blood pressure, because we insisted on it, it was 70/40. My husband also insisted for a wheelchair, which was arranged just before we arrived at the airport in Amsterdam. Given the severity of this incident, I requested a formal investigation into this matter. They did nothing. Additionally, I expected an explanation as to why no assistance was provided and what steps China Eastern Airlines will take to ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future. Nothing just replied they said they did everything fine. Well they did not. I wil never ever fly with China Eastern Airlines again.

Terrible airline AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Terrible airline! Worst I’ve ever flown with! Arrived at Bangkok airport on the 18th to see my flight had been cancelled with absolutely no email or any type of notice given to myself. Sent back and forth around the airport spoke with china eastern staff at desk and was told to call the number off my booking! I refused and finally was seen at a desk to find another flight was rescheduled which was delayed by 3 hours. I then went to check in and they stated my bags were heavier than the 23kgs stated (I wasn’t aware baggage didn’t combine between passengers) despite having a 29 kg bag on the way there still with the heavy tag and the weight on it they called me a liar and demanded over 14000 baht for my luggage. Someone else advised that I can get a box at the front of the airport where they will seal and I can check that in. When on the flight the air staff are happy the bump into you even if you’re confined to your seat ( not overhanging the arm rest) they don’t apologise and if they need to pass you they will place their hands on you and push you aside as if you were luggage yourself! Terrible airline terrible staff!!!
