A lot of addons for WordPress promise bliss in exchange for money. What you get in return is often questionable, even in terms of the promised success. This concept of charging money for a WordPress add-on is becoming increasingly widespread, and in my opinion, many of them are not worth paying for. I still belong to the old generation that believes in free software. I distribute all my programs free of charge, sometimes not even under my own name. This is how computers and the internet became so big in the first place, because a lot of people around the world made their knowledge and skills available for free and in turn benefited from those who either made donations or programmed for others for free – Linux wouldn’t be what it is today if Linus Thorwalds had charged money for it! So I was also very skeptical about CleanTalk’s AntiSpam. But I decided to give it a try and was not disappointed! Because the “offers” for alleged optimization, “listing,” or other screw-ups don’t stop, because there are still too many stupid people who fall for this crap, and these lousy deals are obviously still worthwhile for the scammers. CleanTalk keeps all of this away from me and intercepts it almost unnoticed before I am bothered by it. That’s nice and saves my nerves! So far, CleanTalk’s Anti-Spam has caught a lot of crap, and I really hope that this is real spam and not generated spam to justify CleanTalk. The fact is, however, that the rate is currently 100% for spam caught. Spam that would have cost me a lot of time to sort through all the junk. In that respect, I’m satisfied. You can’t ask for more. What really annoys me is the advertising that I see in the backend despite having paid for the premium version. I really can recommend CleanTalk.

Like most websites with any sort of form I was getting deluged with spam. Tried all the obvious things suggested over the internet but there was nothing effective against the swarm of bots out there. I've now passed 6 years with cleantalk, and during all that time only 4 spam emails have got through. I utilise the API in an unusual but highly effective way. When the form is submitted, if the API reports it as spam they get a standard response so they don't know anything is wrong, their ip is then added to my own database. On every page of the site, my own database is checked first, and previous offenders then just get a completely blank page so they are completely blocked from future access.

Be warned if you are using CleanTalk on you contact forms, you may be BLOCKING good leads. This morning I went online to book a large group dinner at a steak house in Las Vegas. They have a form to complete and submit for large groups. When I went to submit, it gave me an error on my email address "Forbidden. Sender blacklisted. Anti-Spam by CleanTalk." I checked and made sure that this was my business email I used daily. Annoyed I proceeded to try my two personal emails with the same error message. I gave up trying to submit my request, but went to CleanTalk website to try to remove my emails from being blocked and found that there is no tool or option to verify an email or domain to remove from their list. As a business owner I understand the desire to screen out spam, but whatever system CLEANTALK is using is not accurate.

I was using Akismet for WordPress for years until I found Cleantalk. I got an email from Automaticc, which owns Akismet and Jetpack, stating that because I had some ads on my site, I had to pay a ridiculous amount of money. They gave me 30 days. I switched to Cleantalk as it was cheaper, and the difference was amazing. Not only did it catch spam, but the personal blacklists are a timesaver. No more hits or misses from imprecise wording in the Discussion settings. And the support is absolutely superb. The few times I've needed them, they were prompt and fantastic. The firewall and bot-crawler features are also a timesaver. Did you know that auto-bots crawl your site and slow it down? I'm talking spammy bots looking for email addies. This plugin stops them. And also prevents spam after spam from getting through via rate limiting. Try it out, and I swear you will rarely, if ever, have to get rid of spam manually. It's that good!
