Not ethical

Hello this company did not say that they were brokers up front. They use Loadrans/Rapid Express and our security at the gate did not even want to let them in because they were questionable. Security called me and also showed up to make sure I was safe. My husband was there. The movers showed up and immediately doubled the price they were late showing up and we had to get moved. Coastal when I called I ask for a pod and they said for a couple hundred dollars more we can move you. That was a lie. I have never had such a terrible experience and Coastal once they get their money they have nothing to do with you. The company they hired used semi’s that were not moving trucks and the budget vehicle they used to pick our belongings up did not have license plates. We did not receive all our things and they tried to get us to take things that were not ours. We refused. BEWARE.

Manipulative, rude, scammers

Biggest scammers who will give you a quote and double your estimate on the day of. Very savvy salesman who will literally say "you're way under limit in space" and then hire cheap laborers to come headed by a guy whose main goal is to rack up prices. Our eventual order become double what was estimated and according to their estimate was off by four times in space! A company that has such off estimates should not be trusted. The estimate loses its significance if it's not even vaguely resembling anything they actually charge. Mind you, NONE of the items we told them in our inventory changed. They had our full inventory, quoted a bad estimate and doubled the charge on the day when they know you can't change movers. We called customer service who was very rude and did not listen or provide an explanation of why their estimate was so off. They will blame customers, treat them with disdain, and say that their estimates are estimates even when they are 100% off. The lady on the phone told me "we don't care about your opinion" when all I did was quote THEIR OWN estimate, not my opinion. Unprofessional pickers, unprofessional, rude and reckless staff all around. Even if you're desperate, DO NOT hire them. Their job is to make your move as miserable as possible so they can extort as much as possible. They know you cannot change last minute and hiring them for a one-off service so they do not care. We had to pay double the price and even after that, their pickers were making excuses for not taking everything AFTER CHECKING EVERYTHING ON ARRIVAL AND ADJUSTING THE QUOTE TO DOUBLE. This all happened despite our move being very small-scale and only having a 1 bedroom worth of stuff with no large furniture AT ALL.

🚨 DO NOT USE COASTAL MOVING SERVICES

🚨 DO NOT USE COASTAL MOVING SERVICES — COMPLETE BAIT-AND-SWITCH EXPERIENCE 🚨 I strongly urge anyone considering Coastal Moving Services to do your research and DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. My experience has been an absolute nightmare from start to finish. I was given an initial estimate of approximately $5,700, only for the price to increase to over $12,000 after truck arrives. . The original estimate was nowhere close to accurate, and I believe I was intentionally given an unrealistically low quote to get my business, only to have the price dramatically increased later. Then, on moving day, the movers were approximately four hours late just to begin the move. Despite being repeatedly assured that my belongings would be delivered on July 24th, I was later informed that my belongings would not arrive as promised. I am now facing delays, uncertainty, and the possibility of being without my belongings for days or longer. This has caused an incredible amount of stress and disruption during an already major life transition. Based on my experience, I believe this company’s business practices are deceptive and represent a classic bait-and-switch scheme: provide a low estimate to secure the customer, then dramatically increase the price once you are already committed. I am pursuing formal complaints and documenting everything. Please do your research before hiring Coastal Moving Services. I would not recommend this company to anyone. 🚨

If I could give zero stars I would

If I could give zero stars I would. This was the worst moving company ever. We were quoted 2800 dollars and we paid a “large” down payment because it was a quick move well the day the movers showed up and said we owe an additional 4300 dollars and now it’s been a week and our stuff is sitting in a warehouse. So if you want to be mislead and have terrible customer service then this is the place. I will never use them again. 0/10 recommend.

Used car sleaze tactics at their finest!

As with so many others here, I strongly urge you to avoid Coastal Moving Services. The first thing to keep in mind is that Coastal Moving is a brokerage firm. They have no control over the actual move. Even though they make it seem like they are the company you work with, they are actually only simply providing the initial "introduction". So, from their perspective, there is no responsibility, no accountability. Their only goal is to get you to sign the contract for that initial deposit, and then they are good. Unfortunately, "bait and switch" tactics are NOT illegal in this business, and they use it to the extreme. I was mostly lucky. I'm almost 60, was moving my family and wanted to avoid all the physical and emotional stress of previous moves, and I got caught up in their hype and and signed the contract. Admittedly, I wasn't as careful reading the contract as I should have been. They use another common sleazy sales tactic by sending you a 10 page contract while they are on the phone with you and asking you to sign it and send it back while still on the phone. They want to "make sure they can get you scheduled" so they crank up the sense of urgency to sign and send it right back. As I reread the contract after the call, I realized they had significantly underestimated the items for moving. And they were egregious misses, like including a king mattress, but not the bedframe it was on. I began looking into reviews and realized that this was a common tactic leading to consumers having to pay double to triple what they had been quoted. Additionally, they noted that all remaining payments needed to made with cash (which is always a red flag). Based on this, per the cancellation policy explained to me, I sent a written cancellation within 2 hours of initial signing and requested a refund of my deposit. I received an email confirming the cancellation. Fast forward two months - I still had not received the refund. I called back and they explained that my refund had "fallen through the cracks". They fortunately did process my refund at that point, but after taking their 10% "processing fee". This comes back to who and what they are. They don't care whether you actually are moved, they don't care if the moving company jacks up the prices, all they care about is getting that initial signature. Anything after that is not their problem. Do yourself a favor, and be your own broker. Call the moving company directly and take these crooks out of the equation.

Extremely rude. Regret using their services

Extremely rude! Scripted apologies, no real answers Coastal brokered our interstate move. Once the carrier went dark after pickup, well past the confirmed delivery date, Coastal's response was a scripted apology with no real answers: no location, no delivery date, no explanation. I had to repeatedly push for basic updates on my own shipment. If you want a broker who actually holds their carrier accountable, this isn't it.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY unless you want pay double your quoted rate.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY unless you want the price to double the day of the move! Coastal moving services provided me a quote of $2400 to move my one bedroom apartment. On the day of the move, the movers showed up and recalculated that the total was going to be over $4000, including extra charges for wrapping a mirror, walking up a driveway, even though they said 1 staircase and 100 ft of distance was included. They calculate their estimate based on the "average size" of each item in your inventory. Then when the movers show up, they will say that Coastal's estimates are half of the true cubic feet and add on a bunch of additional charges, leaving you with no other choice but to pay thousands of extra dollars on the spot. Their customer service is extremely unhelpful and takes no responsibility for their vast misestimate. Please save yourself time, stress, and money and do not use this company.

SHAME ON YOU COASTAL MOVERS!!!!!

I urge anyone who had to complete a state to state move to perform their due diligence on researching these companies. I used Coastal Moving Services in Florida and it is the biggest most expensive mistake of my life.First and foremost Coastal is NOT a moving company. They are brokers for moving companies. This will automatically add $2000-3000 to your move bill, because they get paid first. That first down payment that is made is the binder (there service fee for doing what you could have done yourself, which is call an actual moving company). Coastal gave me an estimate and once the actual moving company showed up, in a Budget rent a truck, AND NOT A COMPANY TRUCK, everything went downhill from there. It was estimated that my one bedroom apartment move would be $4000. For that my furniture would be packed, wrapped, delivered and unpacked at the new address. Once the movers arrived, the price doubled!!!! Yes! Another $4000! FURTHER, PLEASE KNOW THAT THERE IS A 7 day wait for delivery from your first requested date. For that reason I had to stay in a hotel because I arrived days before my furniture! I was finally given less than 24 hours notice that the furniture would arrive VIA TEXT MESSAGE. The next day I spoke to someone named Megan and explained that it couldn’t be delivered until Friday instead of Tuesday. She told me that I was SOL (shit outta luck), and that I should get a storage unit for the remaining days. I told her that the service i paid for was wrap, pick it up, deliver and unwrap and place in the designated rooms. This was discussed at the beginning of June when I made the arrangements with the salesperson Peter Nelson. The furniture was brought to the storage location on July 21st, AND I HAD TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL $1000 BEFORE THEY WOULD RELEASE IT!!! Today is July 23rd, my furniture remains in a storage unit until Saturday July 25th. I have had to hire another moving company to move my furniture from the storage to my apartment. I am still in a hotel. THIS MOVE HAS NOW COSTED ME IN EXCESS OF $10000! I am a single elderly female who has been terribly taken advantage of. PEOPLE DO NOT USE COASTAL MOVING SERVICES! THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY! DO NOT USE ANY MOVING BROKER! YOU WILL SPEND MORE AND GET MUCH LESS SERVICE! IT IS MUCH EASIER AND COST EFFICIENT TO SET UP SERVICES WITH A MOVING COMPANY ON YOUR OWN! CHOOSE PERSONALIZED SERVICE FOR YOUR PERSONAL PRICELESS ASSETS, instead of having them mixed with other people’s property JUST to complete a route! BE WARNED! BE BLESSED!!!!

I’m convinced without doubt that all of the negative reviews are true

I’m convinced without doubt that all of the negative reviews that I’ve read are true. Unfortunately, I found out too late. Coastal has no problem taking upfront money from customers and they have zero regard for their belongings and livelihood. No accountability. They are a broker, so it is easy and convenient to point blame to their service providers and contractors, in this case Rapid Express. My quote started at $7k to move from SC to TX. It more than doubled to $16k. Rapid came to load our belongings on a Thursday 7/16 and said the price would be an additional $9k, but they made sure to load first before they tell you that so that your belongings are held hostage. After Rapid loaded our belongings in a rented Penske truck on a Thursday (7/9), they told me my order would be dispatched the next day (7/10). I was told by three different people that I needed to be in Texas to receive my delivery at my storage unit for a Monday (7/13) delivery after that same weekend. So that weekend, I drove from SC to TX with an overnight stop in Jackson, MS. I was told a driver would call me Sunday (7/12) to confirm a time to meet the next day Monday (7/13). I never heard from anyone. Monday morning, I called all the numbers I could and emailed all the email contacts for both Rapid and Coastal. I only received a text message on Monday (7/13) that my belongings were still in SC and never left their warehouse. Later that week someone from Coastal called me back (Ryan). Ryan had no idea what was going on. At this point I understood that Coastal's business tactic is to secure a contract, get upfront payment and then check out of the entire process and lead customers into a blackhole to deal with their 3rd party service providers. With my belongings having never left SC, I was pointlessly in Texas waiting for a delivery that no one bothered to tell me was never coming. I flew back to SC the next morning, Tuesday (7/14). At 9pm Wednesday that week (7/15) someone from Rapid texted me wanted my approval to get my belongings dispatched the next day. I responded that it was late at night for me and I would prefer to speak to someone on the phone the next day Thursday morning (7/16) to have a person confirm what day I needed to meet a driver. I did not want to book another trip to TX from SC just to be let down again. ...long story. I saved the screen shot of a text from someone at Rapid (they like to text and not actually call you). They said if I paid my final balance they would guarantee the driver would deliver our belongings on Sunday, (7/19). I flew back to TX. No one ever bothered to tell me that their truck with my belongings broke down in Georgia mere hours after leaving SC. The truck broke down on a Thursday 7/16 and no one bothered to tell me. I could have cancelled my flight that Saturday 7/18 but they basically let me fly to TX, hung me out to dry just to tell me Sunday afternoon 7/19 that my belongings were in a broken-down truck in Georgia since 7/16. I was stuck in Texas without answers and without efficient communication from either Rapid or Coastal. There is so much more to say but I'm too upset to give any more time to this horrible experience. Ryan from Coastal is awful and he seems miserable and unhappy with his existence. He already had an angry tone when he called me, and he had his answers ready to deflect any accountability or responsibility. I honestly felt worse after speaking with Ryan. My conversation with Ryan convinced me that Coastal is a scam artist who knows they can take upfront money from customers and make them sign 10-page contracts while never actually be held accountable for the ones who actually do the work of moving belongings. They check out of the deal as soon as they get their upfront payment. The old saying is true, if you really want something done right, you just have to do it yourself.

Worst Moving Experience

If I could give Coastal Moving Services zero stars, I would. This was, without question, the worst customer service experience I have ever had. The most egregious issue was the pricing. I was quoted an amount that was thousands of dollars less than what I was ultimately charged. Conveniently, I wasn't told the actual cost until after every single one of my belongings had already been loaded onto the truck, at which point I had no realistic option other than to pay. It felt like I had been backed into a corner. When I reached out to ask questions or try to find a reasonable solution, the company was dismissive, evasive, and completely unwilling to work with me. Once they had my belongings, they seemed to have all the leverage—and they knew it. The logistical side of the move was equally disappointing. The movers were late for both pickup and delivery, creating unnecessary issues with both apartment complexes. When you're coordinating elevators, loading docks, and move-in windows, punctuality isn't optional. The repeated delays added even more stress to an already overwhelming process. The moving crew itself did little to inspire confidence. Crew members openly argued with one another throughout the move, tensions were high, and the overall atmosphere was chaotic and uncomfortable. Instead of feeling like my belongings were in capable hands, I felt pressured, rushed, and uneasy. To make matters worse, many of my belongings arrived damaged. Furniture was scratched and scuffed, boxed items were broken, and several items never arrived at all. Entrusting a moving company with your possessions only to have them returned damaged—or not returned at all—is completely unacceptable. Although my shipment technically arrived within the company's quoted delivery window, it wasn't delivered until the very last possible day. Customers should understand that this could mean living without your belongings for weeks, and if your delivery is delayed beyond that window, the company's compensation of just $30 per day is laughably inadequate given the disruption to your life. This entire experience felt like a company that was far more interested in collecting payment than providing the professional service they advertise. Between the surprise charges, poor communication, late arrivals, damaged furniture, missing belongings, and lack of accountability, I walked away feeling taken advantage of. Moving is stressful enough without wondering whether you'll be hit with thousands of dollars in unexpected charges or whether your belongings will even make it to your new home. I sincerely regret choosing Coastal Moving Services and would never recommend them to anyone.

This company is a bunch of scammers

This company is a bunch of scammers. I have filed a complaint with fmcsa, the state attorney general, and their insurance bond carrier. They are brokers not movers. Robert Thomas is a master con man and makes you think all is good but in reality it’s all a scam. He then stops answering calls and emails. Then rapid express shows up on moving day and charges more money. However the biggest scam is they have 17 working days to deliver after pick up. Robert Thomas assured that wasn’t the case though, then they say for 1500. They will expedite it . You know extortion in addition to the already 1500 extra on moving day above the estimate. . Both coastal moving solutions and rapid express are scams! Neither company responds to emails or phone calls. They don’t even respond to the live chat online. Not sure how these people can live with themselves.

A very unreliable company

I needed a reliable moving Co. because I had no help. I contacted Coastal Moving and spoke with Brian Taylor who convinced me that this Co. would do a great job and I could call him any time for help. NOPE! Brian NEVER returned my 2 calls needing his help, then, when I was 2 days away from being moved, Coastal called and DOUBLED my estimate. My son tried to talk with the company and they refused to explain the amount or offer to go back to the original agreement until my son said we would sue. The movers ended up tearing open 7 boxes I had packed looking for tools they claimed they needed to use, then I saw them put my hand saw in their cab, when I confronted them, they claimed it was theirs, then said it was packed by mistake and would be with the other items when unloaded, nope, no saw unpacked. An end table belonging to my grandmother which has survived 6 moves in the last 20 years was broken in 2 places. Please, please Don't hire this broker Co., they are absolutely the most unreliable, unprofessional company I regret ever hiring. Learn from my mistake.
