The Moving Company to count on.

Both the pick up team and drop off team were professional, courteous and personable. The administrative team was the same and actively demonstrated this via communications. Easy to get ahold of and checking in often inquiring on how the move was going.

If I could leave 0 stars I would

If I could leave 0 stars I would. I've been trying to get information on my pickup time for 3 days and no one seems capable of answering this very basic question. 11 phone calls today and no one can give me an answer. My pickup window is half over and no one is competent enough to tell me when they are picking up my belongings. Of course - they have the deposit so now the customer service goes to hell. AVOID THESE PEOPLE - THEY ARE INCOMPETENT

Everything worked out great

The guys arrived right on time for the puck up in maryland and then for the delivery in Florida. They packaged and unloaded everything with great care. They picked up after themselves each time, and the agreed-to price was honored. I’m very satisfied!

I had a great experience for a long distance move. The first person Anthony gave me my quote and was there when I needed to confirm my move. Them I had Maureen to be there when I had any questions from the beginning of the move to the end. My mover Misha was the BEST. He loaded the truck from my storage by Himself and drove it to my new home with only one other mover. Misha did a great job and notified me of some changes and how to solve them. They did s great job unloading my stuff with care and professionalism. The quote did not change by much and was far more less than other estimates I received. I really appreciate the care and help I reviewed by all involved in my move. Susan Ard was

Colonial Van Lines gave us excellent…

Colonial Van Lines gave us excellent service from when we first called them to delivery of all of our household possessions. They thoroughly explained what to expect. The estimate they gave us was the exact final cost. They arrived on time, did an excellent, expert job wrapping all of our furniture and loading onto the truck, in very little time. They delivered everything to our storage facility even faster than anticipated. And every one we dealt with was friendly, patient and knowledgeable. And again, the communication was fantastic! I will highly recommend Colonial to all of our neighbors, friends and family.

Bad Experience With Long Distance Move

We selected Colonial for our April '26 cross-country residential move. The quote process and the actual loading and unloading (driver plus 2 helpers on each end), went well. The quoting agent used pics from our real estate listing to provide a solid estimate. The driver and the two person crews who handled our pick up and delivery were friendly, helpful, hard-working and professional. What went badly was the move itself. Calls from Move Coordinator Identify as Spam The week of the move we were contacted by our Colonial 'move coordinator'. All calls from this person came from numbers that my phone identified as Potential Spam. Even though I saved their contact numbers in my phone, their incoming calls always showed as spam, putting me in the position of having to answer multiple Spam calls during our move just in case it was from my Colonial move coordinator. Colonial Shifts PU and Delivery Windows on Short Notice When we signed with Colonial weeks before our move, they gave us a 2 day window for the pick up & a 5 day window for the delivery due to our long travel window to our new location. The 5 day delivery window was set before our driving plans were finalized, but Colonial told us that would not be a problem bc those dates were flexible until we spoke with our move coordinator the week of the move. The week of the move I told Colonial that the first 2 days of the flexible 5 day window would not work based on our (now firm) xc travel reservations. This info was either ignored or not recorded by Colonial. Colonial called a few days before our 2 day PU window and said there was a delay and PU would be on Day 2. They called back later and said they needed to push our PU out to Day 3. We had booked a series of reservations based on beginning our long drive after Day 2 PU, and could not delay another day. Colonial pushed us to agree to Day 3, but eventually agreed to honor the promised PU window and arrive on Day 2. After PU, we started our long distance drive. A week into the move we contacted Colonial to get a status update on our stuff. We were informed that our delivery was scheduled for the 2nd day of our 5 day window (instead of 3rd-5th, as requested prior to PU). We were forcefully told this delivery date could not be changed, and that if we didn't meet the truck on that date, our stuff would be off-loaded from the truck into a warehouse (for which we would pay extra), and we would go to the back of the line to reschedule delivery, likely several weeks out. It was during this conversation about the delivery date that we learned from Colonial that our stuff was stored, not in a warehouse, but in the same truck the entire time, getting bounced around as it drove around the country. (Since we had more than 10 days between PU and Delivery, we paid extra for 'Storage In Transit', which we were told meant our stuff would be unloaded into a warehouse for part of the move window, then reloaded onto a truck for delivery. Instead it was left on the original truck.) We rescheduled our remaining overnights and drove additional miles each day to be in place, ready for delivery. Late on the afternoon before our scheduled morning delivery date, Colonial called to tell us that they needed to delay delivery by a day. No apology, no explanation, no recognition that they were jerking us around. Just 'oh well'. If you have a local move, you may be just fine with Colonial. However, if you are moving more than a few miles from your current location, I can't recommend Colonial. Your moving schedule and your stuff do not matter to Colonial. And if you have damage to your stuff (we did have some, likely from being 'stored' on the truck), you have to sign a confidentiality agreement before receiving any compensation. We felt strongly that folks need to hear about our experience so we did not sign and are posting instead.

I was impressed with the concern Colonial had for us. The calls and emails making sure we were informed every step of the way were appreciated. The driver was amazing and worked so hard! The crews they had for loading and unloading were wonderful. Friendly, funny and professional. They really worked hard. We definitely picked the right company and I recommend them highly.

100%

We recently completed a move from Pennsylvania to Missouri using Colonial Van Lines, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. From the beginning, Drexel was fantastic to work with. He took the time to understand our situation and helped us find a price point and moving schedule that worked well for our family, especially with a toddler in the mix. Having flexibility around timing made a huge difference in reducing the stress of a long-distance move. Laura was equally outstanding throughout the process. She maintained constant communication before, during, and after the move, ensuring we always knew what to expect and checking in to make sure everything was meeting our standards. Her responsiveness and attention to detail gave us confidence that we were in good hands every step of the way. The actual move was handled by Glass City Movers, and Cliff and Will were exceptional. They were professional, efficient, and treated our belongings with great care. During the move, Cliff made a point to explain the strict standards and procedures that Colonial Van Lines requires its movers to follow. He mentioned that Colonial's expectations for professionalism, communication, and handling customer belongings are more thorough than what many other moving companies require, and it definitely showed in the quality of service we received. Our belongings were picked up in Pennsylvania and delivered to Missouri in just two days. Everything arrived on time and in excellent condition with no damage or missing items. The entire process was smooth, organized, and far less stressful than we anticipated. Between Drexel helping us find the right plan, Laura's outstanding communication, and the professionalism of Cliff, Will, and the Glass City Movers team, we received excellent service at a very competitive price. I would highly recommend Colonial Van Lines to anyone planning a long-distance move.

Great Job!

Colonial kept all of their promises and furniture arrived in perfect shape. Not a single scratch or dent on all of it. They even moved a piece of furniture that we already owned to the basement for us. Great company. I cannot say enough good things about them.

They did everything great

They did everything great! Our initial interaction when the agent explained everything and gave an estimate was fantastic. The agent was friendly, helpful and answered all if our questions. Mario the mover/ driver was early. He packed everything with expert care and amazing energy. He finished everything in three hours. Delivery was right on time. Again with expert care. Nothing was damaged or broken. I would highly recommend colonial van lines to all our friends, neighbors and relatives. We are extremely pleased!!!!

AVOID Colonial Van Lines At All Costs

I cannot recommend Colonial Van Lines after what was, without question, the worst moving experience I have ever had. I hired Colonial Van Lines for an interstate move from Virginia Beach, Virginia to Denver, Colorado, trusting that my belongings would be handled professionally and safely. Instead, Colonial subcontracted the move to APEX Moving Solutions, and the entire process became a nightmare that resulted in extensive damage, missing property, and thousands of dollars in losses. One of my biggest frustrations was the complete lack of transparency and documentation. I repeatedly requested finalized inventory records and copies of signed paperwork but was never provided with complete documentation. Important information regarding valuation coverage and claims procedures was never clearly explained. As a customer, I should have been able to verify what was loaded onto the truck and understand what protections were in place, but I was left largely in the dark. I was told that once the truck was sealed it would not be opened until delivery. However, I tracked my belongings with Apple AirTags and discovered the shipment sitting in Baltimore for several days without explanation. Communication throughout the process was poor and no one could provide meaningful answers. Things only got worse upon delivery. The movers arrived around 1 PM but did not actually begin unloading until hours later. During the delivery process, family members assisting with the move were subjected to arguments and unprofessional behavior from members of the crew. Then came the devastating part: opening boxes and discovering the extent of the damage. A solid wood buffet table valued at approximately $2,500 was destroyed beyond repair. My 75-inch LG QLED television arrived with a puncture and shattered screen, rendering it completely unusable. Personalized wine glasses that held sentimental value were broken. My Giant bicycle suffered severe structural damage. My grill was damaged because heavy tools had apparently been stored inside it, damaging the wheels and gas line. In addition, the movers damaged walls at the pickup location in Virginia and damaged a closet door during delivery in Denver. Even more concerning were the items that simply disappeared. A box spring never arrived, despite its protective cover making it to Denver. An entire Ryobi tool bag containing multiple power tools and batteries vanished. My Subaru Crosstrek crossbars were also missing. Altogether, the losses exceeded $13,000, not including additional repair costs. The most disappointing aspect of this experience has been the feeling that accountability has been absent throughout the process. Customers trust moving companies with virtually everything they own. That trust should be met with professionalism, communication, careful handling, and transparency. Unfortunately, that was not my experience with Colonial Van Lines and the company they chose to subcontract the move to. Based on my experience, I strongly advise anyone considering Colonial Van Lines to do extensive research and think carefully before entrusting them with their belongings. What should have been an exciting move to a new home became a stressful and costly ordeal that I am still attempting to resolve through arbitration. I would never use Colonial Van Lines again, and I cannot recommend them to anyone.
