I joined Data Engineering Academy in…c

I joined Data Engineering Academy in May 2026. Coming from Insurance industry background transitioning to Data Engineering. My experience is overwhelming information to learn. It took me great amount of concentration to understand SQL. Practice multiple times until I can visualize the solution as clear as day. My goal is to master advance level as well as SQL Interview. I encourage everyone to try the academy because to me this is my dream job for the rest of my life.

Om has been a great coach to work with as I progress through the program. He shared many tips and methods to help me understand the material and work better with the coaches. I am sad that I will not be working with him any more but I know the team will be great.

Good so far!

So far, it's good overall. I'm near the end stages, setting up meetings to create stories around the course projects I did, setting up mock interviews, and resume reviews. It seems promising with the amount of prep that goes into the most important part of landing a job, the interview. I just can't speak to it's usefulness quite yet. What I really did like was that they handed me the entire curriculum at the start and personalized it to my needs. So if you want to be very hands-off, you have the entire curriculum to do so. If you want more hands-on help, then there are options for you too. They put me in a slack channel with lots of SME's and coaches, as well as assigned me a personal coach that I could go to any time, Om Gaikhe was very helpful and responsive! There were drop-in calls every day for all sorts of things, like general Q&A, SME office hours, SQL/Python help, project help, etc. I only used the drop-in calls a few times, but they were useful when I did because I could ask questions and the SME's were there to answer them directly. I just preferred to ask questions in the slack as questions naturally came up (rather than wait for the day of the week that had the drop-in I wanted). My one complaint and why I'm not giving this 5 stars is that the slack channel was not as responsive as I would have liked. Sometimes it would take longer than a day for someone to respond, sometimes a few days. Now, I did bring this up with my coach and the members of my channel did get better at responding quicker, and they also included a bot to auto-ping people. But I also think that the natural time difference, if you live in the US, is a problem because a lot of the SME's are in India, so you typically have to wait a night/day for a response just due to time differences. But if you keep that expectation in mind and try to ask questions early in the slack channel and just follow-up on questions the next day, it's usually no problem. With the resources they provide just searching the internet, I could usually figure things out, it's only when it came time to review projects that I felt this issue the most. But all-in-all not a huge deal. I think this experience gave me good direction for what I need to study and practical projects as well.

everything you could ask for in a program

From the custom course schedule, bi-weekly check in's to keep a solid pace, skool and slack channels for connecting and questions, Data Engineer Academy is everything you could ask for in a program. The price matches the quality of information and help you get from start to finish during your journey.

I have been with DE for several weeks now, and I think it’s really well structured for self-motivated learners. There are tons of practice questions that help you learn SQL.

I'm grateful for DEA

I'm grateful for DEA. Always having resources available (and actual people). Very organized/structured when it comes from being in the shoes of someone new, someone wanting to learn in addition to refining their knowledge in this field, or anything in between (anything related to DA/DE/DS/etc). Every person I've talked to from first starting to where I am currently has always been helpful and professional. The structure and planning that they've put in (and continue to do) is quite remarkable. As someone coming from no experience with Data Analytics/Engineering, I actually am able to understand, and feel confident of my ability. They've been honest, upright, and efficient. There's times I was struggling to grasp or understand overall a few things, my success coaches helped me get through the things I found myself in difficulty. The people teaching the classes are always nice, answer any questions anyone has, and if there were things I was having a hard time with they made sure to find resources/people to help so I could fully understand. They go over and prepare every aspect of the actual material well as hiring process (mock interviews, feedback, the process, etc) Every experience from DEA when it comes to education and assistance has been positive. You're learning from actual professionals in the industry that objectively have accurate and good experience. Actions speak louder than words and it shows. They're good at what they do.

..the right path to start learning new skills as a Data Analyst

The way the course plan is structured and personalized gives me, as a student, the right path to start learning new skills as a Data Analyst. I am impressed with the professionalism the Academy has built within the student community, especially having the chance to have one-on-one sessions with experts to answer any questions. I wish I had found this program earlier. Definitely recommended

I am a current student a the Data Engineer Academy. My experience has been nothing short of amazing. Each person I have encountered from the Hector the one who got me onboarded to my advisor Stefan have been extremely helpful, supportive, and knowledgeable. I fully encourage anyone who is considering attending to do it because it is worth it. And the extra classes that are offered by the different instructors make all the difference in the world. Don’t sit on the fence, make the decision and do it. You won’t regret it.

A Month in and loving it

I am a little over a month in to my journey and I can say I have learned more about SQL and my abilities than possible elsewhere. This is coming from someone with a data background and experience in other learning environments. By far this is the best bang for the buck if you are serious about learning advanced level data skills. There are regularly scheduled calls with the coaches to help you with the problems and for you to ask questions. The group settings are very helpful because oftentimes you were not the only one struggling with the same concept. I will say my SQL skills are leaps and bounds above where they were even a month ago. I can't wait to dig into the other concepts and continue learning.

Great way to learn new technologies and their real life application

I am currently working in the BI and data analytics space but felt that I needed exposure and practical application knowledge in certain technologies and tools that are necessary to move ahead in my career. The coaches at DE listened to my specific concerns and came up with a plan that helps me acquire the required skills and using them in practical applications. I am currently midway through the Data Engineer and AI plan, and I am very happy with the resources provided and the structure of each course. The projects allow me to use the skills I learned, and the plan makes it easy to learn at my own pace. The coach helps me stay accountable and not lose track. Overall, very happy with the program so far.

2 Months In...Everything seems great.

I've been an SQL developer for over 15 years. I am only about two months in. Taking the initial step was very scary to be honest. I was unsure of the validity of the company, and the program. The LOGIC and the Mathematics of WHY to sign on with DEA made sense long term in terms of ROI. But the sticker price was a bit of a shock. And you want to make sure that if you're going to spend that money, you're not wasting it. Because if you're financing it, you cant exactly just "take it back." Its a commitment. You just want to be sure you're giving your money to the right people.... In my estimation so far, I have. The entire platform is very professional. I am currently training Python and AWS in my current step of my tech enhancement journey. A Journey BTW which was tailor made for my technical gaps. One of the hallmarks of DEA provides for you. So far the material has been VERY good. So have the environments where I participate in coding trainings and exercises. As far as resources, there are more than enough. And I haven't even exercised all of them yet such as the live coaching sessions provided. I haven't really needed it yet because it's been so easy to follow. They provide you an onboarding coach, as well as a coach that helps keep you on track. I meet with mine regularly and they help you set goals to keep you on pace. And the breadth of the material DEA supplies definitely covers inexperienced folks, to seasoned data professionals. One of the things they stress is that at the end of the day, your success lies with you. They give you plenty of tools and resources. Its up to you to put in the work, concentration, and time. After all, you're betting on yourself. The rest of my path with DEA remains to be seen. As long as I have put the work in, will they perform with the job placement portion? Will I receive a healthy sign-on bonus upon hire that will help pay back a solid portion of my investment (not guaranteed)? I cannot speak to this yet. But I CAN say that I don't regret pulling the trigger on this so far. I will try to update this review once I complete the program.

10+ Interviews in 2 Months

I joined the Data Engineer Academy job application package two months ago. I am still in the interview process and haven't landed a final offer yet, but the momentum has been great. Shoutout to the team: Mehnaz, Kajal, Saikumar, Osaki. The team reworked my resume to better showcase my background. They monitor new openings and send me roles that actually fit my experience. They handle the tracking, which keeps me on top of every interview stage. Outsourcing the application logistics freed up my schedule to focus on technical prep. The strategy advice is tailored to my situation rather than generic templates. It is a lot of work, but having this structural support made managing 10+ interviews much easier.

I have been asked to share my experience. I am about 75% of the way through the program. I am a self starter and excel and self learning. For these reasons I feel I have been able to learn through the program and overcome some the the challenges. The biggest part of the problem for me is the job placement. I have no insight yet as to weather the work will payoff in the form of a new job in data. Perhaps my rating will change after that experience.
