Our son participates in IDtech Engineering Summer Programs annually and West Quad dormitory is where the
Programs have been held. He enjoys attending, learning, playing, exploring, building and showing us his final projects. We also took a tour of the campus in order to prepare him for college living and to guide him with developing academic expectations as he enters young adulthood over the next 5 years.
Sadly this camp week was a disappointment and not what we had hoped for at all. The teacher was clearly overwhelmed, frustrated and lacked the abilities to properly lead and teach in a way that could lead a class of twelve, 10-12 year olds to a completed project in one week. It was even more of a letdown that this was licensed and branded as BattleBots and the Friday showcase, There were no functioning robots to be battled. thankfully, we have access to the coursework and we do plan to take everything apart and start over from scratch as I will be personally guiding my child through this experience again to fill the gaps and get through what they did not complete. His dashboard said 40% of the course was completed. The dashboard looks awesome for the game plan and it’s easy to follow. There’s a lot of potential here with this course to be great for the kids. I highly recommend ID Tech to do a more thorough vetting with who is teaching this content to kids and to ensure that they have the support needed because this teacher could’ve definitely used at least two more teaching aids.
Sam’s confidence skyrocketed at camp! He came home enthusiastic about his progress and the challenges he ran into. The campus was super clean and the teachers were more than impressive
Fantastic camp, my daughter didn’t want it to end.
This was the first camp that my 15 year-old has ever enjoyed in her entire life. She took so much knowledge and information from this experience and was able to bring her art and creations to life. Thanks through the help of the instructors that were outstanding. I greatly appreciate the staff and the camaraderie built among the students throughout the week. I wish we would’ve done this years ago.

Disappointing and overpriced
Disappointing and overpriced. I sign my son up for Battle Bots camp for 13-17 year old and after the first day, he gave me a feedback that the camp is not as challenging as he expected. The robot build is based on a kit and everybody is building the same type of robot with little room for creativity. Also, the 13-17 and 10-12 age groups are mixed and there's no distinction on skill level which is basically false advertisement since I assumed that there's distinction between the two age groups since they are listed as 2 different classes on the website!!!

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback.
We're sorry to hear your son's experience with BattleBots camp didn't match what you expected. We understand the frustration around the age groups being combined and the build feeling less open-ended than anticipated, that's valuable feedback for us to look into.
We'd like to learn more about what happened with the age group placement and course structure so we can address this properly. Please reach out to us at [email protected] or call 1-888-709-8324 so we can look into your son's specific session.
We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
My son loved the instructors and everything he learned at ID tech.

My son attended the online Python programming camp. The small instructor-to-student ratio meant he got individual help whenever he was stuck. He built a functioning game project by the end of the week and loved it!

Thank you for sharing this, we love hearing it!
We're so glad your son had such a great experience in the online Python programming camp. Getting that individual attention to work through challenges and finishing the week with a functioning game project is exactly the kind of hands-on learning we aim to deliver.
We hope to see him back for more coding adventures soon! If you ever have any questions, feel free to reach out at 1-888-709-8324 or [email protected].

Cheaper materials used
The product arrived with noticeable differences compared to what was advertised. The materials feel cheap and flimsy. It performs its function, but I expected better quality based on the descriptions. Delivery was timely, but the expected durability is not there. A small piece was missing from the set too, which is frustrating. Will think twice before buying again.
My child loved the experience and gained new skills. She really enjoyed working with the educators and inspired with her classmates

Waste of money
I agree with the reviewers who say it is mostly paying for an expensive, college-aged baby-sitter to watch teens while they play video games. Firstly, it is promoted as a camp at MIT...but they pull a bait and switch AFTER payment where you are told that the classes will be at MIT but the kids sleep at BENTLEY and are bused to MIT each morning. The Bentley dorm is smelly, small, and severely lacking; and all the kids are on one floor. Additionally, classes and ages are combined in classrooms. You can have 3 counselors teaching 3 different classes, in one classroom, it's a mess. According to my son, most of the time the counselors are doing their own thing and not really teaching. My son learned absolutely nothing, the food at Bentley was horrible (my son was consistently hungry), the kids were NOT watched in the dorms (they can easily leave and no one will notice), and for classes they use free software that anyone can easily get online and learn how to use on youtube. There were no educational opportunities like visits to the MIT museum, for example, even though they were on the grounds. The after class activities are things like clay arts and crafts, which is more appropriate for elementary school kids than high schoolers; visits to dunkin donuts; and movie nights where the kids are left entirely alone. For a tech camp, it is quite lacking. Be aware that this camp, and the certificate, are not things that are worth anything for a college app. Perhaps as a baby-sitting day camp for younger children it may be a better option. Administratively it is a MESS... To this day I am still wondering why the counselors use aliases instead of their names? That is crazy, and raises red flags, why can't I know the real name of the person who's supposed to be taking care of my child? Would not recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We're sorry to hear your son's experience didn't meet the expectations set for the program, especially around housing, supervision, and the quality of instruction.
The concerns you've raised, including the dorm conditions, mixed-level classrooms, food quality, evening supervision, and the housing/campus details communicated before the program, are important and we've shared them directly with our team. We've also passed along your feedback regarding class content and activities so we can look at how the program is structured and communicated going forward.
We'd still like to learn more about your experience directly. Please reach out to us at [email protected] or 1-888-709-8324 so we can gather additional details.
My son had a great time! Overall - highly recommend.

Battle Bots Camp Replaced with Minecraft and Bullying
The Battle Bots camp was extremely disappointing. All students received robot kits with broken parts, and only one robot worked by the end of the week. The instructors spent most of their time trying to fix equipment while the kids played Minecraft and other games unsupervised. No one contacted me or spoke to me about the issue, and bullying in the class went unaddressed.
When I called ID Tech afterward, they confirmed they knew the parts were broken and chose not to notify parents. This reflects a larger problem with both the campus and the organization’s priorities regarding safety, supervision, and educational value.

We're very sorry to hear about this experience, and we don't take these concerns lightly. Broken equipment, unsupervised time, and unaddressed bullying are not reflective of the standard we hold ourselves to, and we understand your frustration that parents weren't notified sooner. Nothing matters more to us than making sure every child feels safe, supported, and engaged in a well-supervised learning environment.
We're glad to hear you've already been in touch with our team and that this has been addressed. We've shared your feedback with management to help prevent this from happening again. If there's anything further we can do, please don't hesitate to reach out at 1-888-709-8324 or [email protected].
We found ID Tech and thought we would give it a try. My 9 yr old son absolutely loved it. The counselors mad a huge positive impact on his experience and he wants to go back any chance he gets. We feel lucky to have found ID Tech.

RJ was very disappointed. His final project had a software malfunction which prevented him from completing his assignment. He had nothing to show us at the end of the week, which made him very upset. I asked the director to please have his teacher sit and teach him how to remove the malfunction but this was not done. As a result RJ felt like the week was a failure. I also think his teacher could have stepped in earlier to prevent this from happening.

Thank you for sharing this, and we're truly sorry to hear how RJ's week ended.
It's disappointing to hear he was left without a final project to show after dealing with a software malfunction, especially after you asked the director for help resolving it with his teacher. We understand how upsetting this was for RJ, and we also hear your concern that earlier intervention from his teacher may have prevented this outcome. We'd like to look into what happened here.
Please reach out to us at [email protected] or 1-888-709-8324 so we can learn more about RJ's experience and address this with our team.
