I have purchased two coops from Roost & Root and both are perfect for back yard chicken keeping. The owners have thought of everything to make chicken keeping easy and hassle free. One of my coops is over 10 years old and is still holding up well and looks good too. I would suggest two people to assemble the coops, just to help hold pieces in place while drilling. The instructions are clear and coops can easily be put together in one afternoon. I love the customer service with Roost & Root too. When I had questions on what coop to order, I spoke to a live person, which in this day and age is a small miracle. I have nothing negative to say about this company or my coops. The construction is awesome! Well thought out and just amazing in its design and execution. It did take us longer to assemble than the directions said, like double the time, so you might want to change it to more realistic number, even if it’s off putting it’s not daunting

We have a pretty good record with those estimates that we give, but if there are portions of the instructions that seemed more difficult than others we are always willing to adjust and improve.

This is my second backyard coop from R&R. The first about 5 years ago, the second more recent. Both experiences were excellent. Both coops were excellent. Both times I ordered the 5-8 chicken coop. Both times I called the office multiple times with questions. All calls were met with professionalism, product knowledge and a personable willingness to listen, take my questions/concerns seriously and a commitment to resolve them as quickly as possible. I also like to support smaller family run US businesses. I heartily recommend this company!

The coop is solidly made & fairly easy to assemble (2 people definitely make it easier). Would like to have the roosting bars a little lower but that's not a design problem, more of an issue with my bougie chickens that are not used to flying up to a roost bar.

I don't say this lightly
I don't say this lightly. I am incredibly happy with my walk-in coop from Roost and Root. I waited a bit to leave a review, to make sure everything held up, but I have no complaints. It was easy to assemble over a couple of hours with a couple of friends. It's so easy to harvest eggs from the nesting boxes and they come out pretty darn clean every time with plastic nesting box inserts. The chickens needed some time to figure out to use the watering nipples, but after putting coconut oil on there for a bit, we removed their other water dish and they transitioned. Watering and feeding are a breeze with add-ons. I did crack one of the nipples when pulling it out to empty out the water and put new stuff in, so just make sure you don't hit them against anything. I also used Milk Paint's outdoor defense oil to coat the cedar and help maintain the life of the wood. Next, I'm saving up for one of the greenhouses...

Slant roof greenhouse arrived when scheduled and protected in a nice shipping crate. Instructions were easy to follow. My husband and I put it together in a single weekend. There was one panel with some slight damage and Roost & Root responded immediately to my email. A new panel was shipped. We are in north central Wisconsin and are excited to see how our first winter with the greenhouse goes.

One box was delayed and the company was very responsive. They were ready to resend but it did show up. I put this together myself and it was actually fun because I built it inside a run with the chickens inside and they really enjoyed the inspection process. The coop is sturdy and they love the feeder.

Coop is great. A part was broken when it arrived, and the delivery was poor (the people that delivered it dumped the crate about 200 feet down and away from the door). Other than that easy instructions and good quality on the materials,

We put a great deal of effort into finding the best freight option for each order. I wish it had gone differently. Unfortunately, there are parts of the delivery process that are out of our control. There was a missing piece over where the optional food thing goes. I wish o had understood how difficult it is to get in and out of. I would have ordered the food and water extras. By the time I realized it was already together and difficult to add on after.

One of the reasons we designed integrated waterers and feeders that can be filled from the outside of the coop is to make it as easy as possible on our customers to refill when necessary. It's especially convenient for the compact coops like you have because you cannot walk inside. We have people upgrade their coops from the base model to include waterers and feeders for our Backyard model quite often. If that's a feature you would like to take advantage of please call us and we can work through it together. I'm confident we can make the transition easy on you.

Well made coop. Very easy to assemble and all of the necessary hardware was shipped with the unit. It took 2 people taking their time about an hour to put it together. We are happy with our decision.

I just love my little coop. I did the rent-a-hen thing and decided to keep the chickens. When the owner came to pick up her coop, she said my coop was cute but the chickens would never make it thru the winter!

I would say that you are getting some poor advice from the owner of your previous coop. All of our coops are designed deliberately to prioritize ventilation. Chickens are amazing animals that have been able to adapt to various climates for thousands of years. We are very confident in our design and our knowledge of chickens.
Over the ten plus years of being in business we have sent coops to Minnesota, the Dakotas, Wyoming, Montana, northern Idaho, and even Alaska. They all have happy, healthy birds. I understand the concern and I am going to assume her comments were sincere, but we have full confidence in our coops ability to house your birds in all climates.
I can see you ordered storm panels for your coop. When it comes time for the snow in your Vermont winter you can places those onto your coop. It will allow for continued ventilation and prevent snow build up inside the run.

Coop arrived in time frame specified when ordered and was well packaged and easy to assemble. Customer service was wonderful, we changed our minds about which coop we wanted the day after ordering. We gave them a call and got the order changed right over the phone. Great service, great product. The girls love it.
