A great platform for experienced developers
I joined Toptal in March 2026, and my experience has been excellent so far. The screening process is definitely challenging, but after going through it myself, I understand why it's designed that way. It gives clients confidence that they're working with experienced professionals. Since joining the network, I've had the opportunity to work with high-quality clients on meaningful projects where my experience was valued from day one. The clients have been professional, the projects have been interesting, and the opportunities available on the platform are consistently high quality. One thing I particularly appreciate is the support from the Toptal team. The matchers have always been responsive, helpful, and genuinely interested in finding opportunities that match my background and experience. Their guidance also helped me improve my profile and applications when I first joined. Payments have always been processed on time, and whenever I had a question, the support team responded quickly and professionally. Overall, Toptal has been one of the best freelance platforms I've worked with. If you're an experienced developer who's willing to invest the effort to pass the screening process, I believe it's absolutely worth it.

There are a number of factors working well in Toptal. There are long-term projects, the payment is smooth and on time, the freedom to choose the projects which works for me, I personally had a great experience with the Toptal project POC - there were a lot of frictions with one of clients and the support I got from him is commendable. Also, I appreciate the development training programs including certifications that are available in Toptal. All these points make it a good place to work in.

Great First Months at Toptal
My experience with Toptal has been extremely positive. From the first interaction through onboarding, every step was professional, transparent, and well organized. The interview process was clear, and I received immediate feedback. The onboarding experience was also good. The team provided excellent support in building and optimizing my professional profile, making the entire process smooth and welcoming. Within a couple of days, I already had my Toptal email account and could browse opportunities. The platform itself, both the web version and the mobile app, is well built and easy to use, and opportunities appear daily. They also have a Slack community that keeps matchers and talent connected, making it easy to stay informed about new opportunities, learn how the company operates, and engage with the broader Toptal network. As a consulting professional seeking projects with leading companies, I’ve found Toptal to be a great fit and an excellent example of professionalism. One thing worth noting is that success on the platform comes from keeping your profile up to date and staying engaged with opportunities. It’s different from applying to companies individually, as you are pre-screened during the onboarding process. Many pre-interviews are already done, so what you must do is talk to the clients. However, it is not a guarantee that you will engage in a project immediately, because you still have to compete with great internal talent. It sure makes the process a lot faster and less frustrating than being on non-transparent processes, where you often don't even get any feedback. I highly recommend Toptal to professionals seeking meaningful work opportunities with outstanding companies. Other companies looking for talented professionals are, for sure, in a good place.

My experience with Toptal has been nothing short of exceptional. I genuinely couldn't be happier with the service I received from beginning to end. Every single person I interacted with demonstrated professionalism, genuine care, and an unwavering commitment to helping me solve what had become a very serious problem for my business. It all began with the first representative who called me to understand my needs and ensure I was connected with the right manager. From there, I was introduced to Goran (manager in TopTal) who took the time to have an in-depth conversation with me, carefully listening to the challenges I was facing before searching to match me with the right talent/expert. I quickly realized that this wasn't a straightforward task. In fact, Goran candidly acknowledged that finding someone with the precise expertise I needed would be difficult - not only within Toptal, but almost anywhere. He told me that if such a person existed, however, Toptal would be the place to find them. He was absolutely right. The talent I was matched with, Aoun, proved to be exactly the person my business needed. Aoun's expertise, strategic thinking, and execution were extraordinary. Not only did he reverse the issues that had been severely impacting my operation, but he also introduced entirely new strategies that created levels of exposure I had never experienced before. Within just one month, my work reached audiences and generated growth in users and subscribers that far exceeded both my expectations and the numbers I had previously been achieving on other platforms. I worked with Toptal for almost 5 years, what I love about toptal is that they help you to get the first interview with the client and they make the process easier. You have an initial screen process with them and some testing, SQL and Python if you are a Data Engineer, then they cut that part of the process for future customers.

Smooth Experience
I came to Toptal through the Adeva acquisition last month, while already mid-contract with a client I'd been working with for a while. I was a little wary about what a platform transition mid-contract might mean, but it turned out to be genuinely seamless — my existing contract carried over without any disruption, and payments kept coming on time without a single gap through the switch. The Toptal team was also solid on support during the transition — I had questions along the way and got proper, responsive answers instead of being left to figure it out myself. It's early days for me on Toptal specifically, but if this is representative of how they operate, it's a good sign.
