DON'T SIGN UP FOR ANY FREE TRIALS FROM…

DON'T SIGN UP FOR ANY FREE TRIALS FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! As a gift from a family member I was given the DNA kit. I had always wanted to try this, so i was super excited. Once the results were in, the site offered many different FREE TRIALS to explore more. I signed up for a 30 day free trial and then after the trial it was $25/month. After my trial was over I had cancelled and was charged a total of $48 for early cancellation!!! WTF it never said anything about that prior to me signing up.

Reply from Ancestry.com2026-07-27

Thanks for getting in touch lately, Joe. We're sorry to hear of any unexpected billings, and we can certainly take some time to advise on our cancellation fees. We can confirm that our 6-month or annual memberships that are billed on a monthly basis, specifically, are subject to an early cancellation fee. This is because, though you are billed on a monthly basis, you are committing to the full 6 or 12 months, with the cost split up at a discounted rate. This is explained during the order process, and within our Terms and Conditions too. With that said, we also offer 6-month and annual memberships that are billed up-front, in addition to monthly memberships that are not subject to that fee, which start from $24.99 a month. Even with this in mind, if this wasn't communicated to you effectively when ordering your membership with us, we sincerely regret to hear this, and we'd be anxious to log your feedback to you. We hope this insight is helpful in addressing that fee, but if you need any additional assistance with your account, please don't hesitate to contact our support team. If that's needed, you can get in touch with them here: https://support.ancestry.com/s/contactsupport?language=en_US Thank you again for contacting us so we could share this insight.

ancestry is an invaluable resource, DNA tools should be improved

ancestry is an invaluable resource. Its unique treasure is the DNA database. (1) people like me with many (about 20) kits mostly of relatives should have utilities that automatically analyze similarities and differences between those kits like a list of matches between all pairs of kits (2) access should be provided perhaps for a fee to the <7cM matches, some of which are certainly useful (3) it is annoying that full text should require a fold3 subscription. ancestry already charges monthly for “pro tools”, which interest me only for the DNA “shared with” utility.

I'm always excited when a new update is…

I'm always excited when a new update is coming out. I'm adopted, and Ancestry enabled me to find out the identities of both birth parents. I'm now in regular correspondence with two cousins! The ancestral regions updates are great for verifying that the family lines represented in my Matches' family trees are accurate; for instance, my 3% Isle of Man verifies that I do descend from a great-great-great-grandfather from the Isle of Man who is listed in some of my Matches' family trees. It's also been really cool to verify with certain cousins that peculiar traits of mine do run on their side of the family. I've been with Ancestry for years, and I sincerely can't recommend it strongly enough. I'm already excited about this year's coming big update!

I started with Family Tree Maker…

I started with Family Tree Maker genealogy program in 1993. Every time I bought a new FTM program it was so easy to transfer. In 2003 I finally was able to get online to access the 1998 myfamily(generated by ancestry) platform which was a place where family could share memories, etc. In 2012 I was able to get better online access. I bought the latest Family Tree Maker which allowed me to upload my data to Ancestry, and it would sync with my computer. Also, in 2012 my husband and I took the DNA tests through the ancestry kit, and it would sync with our Ancestry trees. I have experienced 33 Years of a very satisfied journey. Since I could add new trees for family and friends I now admin 20 plus trees on ancestry and 20 plus DNA profiles(permission was granted). Yes, 33 thumbs up!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Unbeatable for finding family…

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Unbeatable for finding family matches and real history If you're taking a DNA test just to see a broad pie chart of your ethnicity, any basic kit will work. But if you actually want to find living relatives, build an accurate family tree, or break through genealogical brick walls, AncestryDNA is the absolute gold standard. Here is why it’s worth every penny: Massive Database: Ancestry has by far the largest user network out there. If you’re searching for biological family, long-lost cousins, or close genetic matches, this is where you'll find them. ThruLines Feature: This was the game-changer for me. Instead of just giving you a list of names, Ancestry connects your DNA to historical records and user trees to show you exactly how you and your matches are connected to a shared ancestor. Incredible Specificity: It didn't just tell me general regions—it pinpointed exact historical migration routes and localized communities where my family lived generations ago. Parental Split (SideView): Even without my parents taking a test, the app automatically separated my DNA results and matches into Paternal and Maternal sides, which made organizing my family tree so much easier. A quick tip: To get the absolute most out of your DNA matches, you’ll want an Ancestry subscription to view their full family trees and historical documents. But even the standalone DNA kit gives you an amazing amount of actionable data. If you’re serious about discovering where you come from and finding real connections, don't waste time with smaller platforms. AncestryDNA is easily the best on the market.

this was a cluster f...

this was a cluster .... from the beginning. I followed all the instructions, mailed the sample in, and waited. nothing. I called and they couldn't find it, so started to send another kit, but in the meantime found mine so stated to ignore the new one being sent, and I should get my results soon. a long time later i received an email stating they are running behind and to be patient. I finally called today (several months of being patient) and was told, since they sent the 2nd kit they deleted the original. opposite of what i was told. on top of it she would let me finish a statement until i asked her to please stop interupting me and let me finish a sentence. i was careful to never raise my voice. ancestry.com is a disaster. a zero rating would be the appropriate choice but it's not an option. i have since learned of much better options, and learned to poor rating of ancestry. by know they have known for awhile of their poor service since i've seen very embarassing reviews, so they really don't care. and they have continued to send sales emails every week. disgusting at best.

Bad Changes to Ancestry in 2026

Have been using Ancestry for over 12 year. Use to be simple, 2 screens to compare your history, now you have to go back and forth to try to make corrections or compare. AI does not need to have anything to do with this program. You have continually raised the subscription price, made it impossible to find obituary notices and other information without subscribing and paying extra for it, it's all a money program. If I can find another simple, inexpensive program I am going to tell everybody about it.

Hi there, and thanks very much for taking the time to share your concerns with us. We're sorry to hear of any difficulty in making the most of our site lately. It would be great to learn more about your experience, so we can do our best to assist you. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with our team through the details below so we can take a closer look at the changes you've encountered recently. Live Chat: https://support.ancestry.com/s/contactsupport/?language=en_US Phone Support: 1-800-262-3787 Regarding the obituaries you mentioned, it sounds like you may be referring to obituaries from Newspapers.com, which have been indexed on Ancestry in recent years. Newspapers.com first became available in 2012, and The Publisher Extra membership was introduced on that website back in 2016, providing unique access to many newspapers' archives that are still under copyright with editions that had been published more recently. While a sperate membership to Newspapers.com was required to access those more recent clippings in the past, our All Access membership on Ancestry will cover access to these. The All Access subscription is a Family Plan as well, that can be used by up to 5 people, making it pretty good value. If you'd like to learn more about that membership, you can do so here, or by getting in touch with us through the contact details above: https://support.ancestry.com/s/article/All-Access-Membership Thanks very much for contacting us so we could share these details with you. It provides more information than I assumed would be available and easy to navigate.

At 84 it has opened pertinent information that I never expected to be found, helping me link resources beyond what I expected. Easy to follow hints and reviews . .. i.e. user friendly. Having 22 Grandchildren and 25 Great Grandchildren, an invaluable asset as I put together this all important Family History at this stage of life.

Why Ancestry.com is my genealogy "home" and daily go-to

I use Ancestry.com daily as well as a number of other genealogy platforms and websites. I have been using Ancestry.com for roughly 25 years. I find it to be the best place as a "home" to the information that I collect and the tree(s) that I reference. This is due in equal parts to the excellent data available through various collections, the ability to connect that information to individuals in a tree -and also the ability to compare my information to the many DNA matches I encounter on Ancestry.com. Although I also use other sources, Ancestry.com is where I probably spend 95% of my gnealogical research time.

Thanks so much for choosing Ancestry as your research partner over the years, Patrick. We hope that researching and preserving your family history has been a truly rewarding journey!

This is the worst experience!!

This is the worst experience!!! I bought her this kit for Christmas last year had to resend a sample and we still haven't received results just being charged for the subscription offered on my way to cancel everything with this very disappointed!!!

Reply from Ancestry.com2026-07-23

Hi there, Quishana. We are truly sorry for this experience. Gifting a kit for Christmas should be a special moment, and waiting seven months without results—while dealing with subscription charges—is completely unacceptable. We fully understand your disappointment. When a sample needs to be resent, our goal is to process the replacement as quickly as possible, and it is clear we failed to deliver the timely service and communication you deserved. We want to fix this for you immediately—including reviewing any subscription charges and getting an urgent status on your replacement sample. Please contact our support team directly at https://support.ancestry.co.uk/s/contactsupport/ (Mon–Fri 9am–9pm GMT, Sat–Sun 12pm–9pm GMT) so a member of the team can resolve this today

In my opinion the membership fees are reasonable. I have the option to take a break and still have access to my tree.

When I started putting together my family tree, I took every clue I got, hoping it would lead me to the truth. It took a lot of guesswork to figure it out, but I learned a valuable lesson along the way. Now, thanks to the “fact check” feature, things are much simpler. I can see right away if I’ve made a mistake or if I’m on the right track. Another great thing is that I can transcribe old, almost unreadable documents. The “clear lines” make it easy to see how I’m connected to other family trees. DNA is a definite proof that I’m a match to someone in my family. It’s really special when another family member gets in touch because we share DNA.

Like I said in my previous comment

Like I said in my previous comment. Sometimes it is comber-some to get around and enter data. I know the format is always growing and you much adapt. But, it is too difficult to reach someone to ask questions. I know I probably am not doing some things the right way, even after 20+ years. But I keep trying and keep telling people about Ancestry.com and DNA testing. It does seem to cost a lot, and as a 81 year old That is why I cannot at this time renew my subscription. I do as much work that I can cleaning up info, adding photos and family information. Keep up the good work!

Hitting the Marks for the British Isles and Western Europe

There are a multitude of genealogical research sites one can use to search out their ancestors. Since my lineage is from the British Isles and Western Europe Ancestry.com is consistently the best of all I have tried. It is my primary search engine. I find their subscription programs functionally sound, with ample potential matches to research from, and they are electronically secure from hackers. When necessary, they have personal support staff readily available. Financially it also hits the mark on value vs. cost. Ancestry.com has been my choice for 22 years and counting.

Thanks you very much for choosing Ancestry to help you in your family history research over the last two decades, David! We're so grateful for your kind feedback, and we're excited for the discoveries you could make moving forward as more and more records become available over time. Thanks again!
