I have found information on many of my DNA relatives
I have found information on most of my ancestors on all my lines except two several generations back. I think the ones I cannot find are due to incorrect information. I hope one day with new information coming online everyday that I will overcome this hurdle. I started researching m family before ancestry.com so I appreciate the time, travel, and expense that i have saved with this resource.

I had spent alot of time researching our ancestors. I even trusted Ancestry with my DNA. I was off it for a time and when I was finally financially able I rejoined knowing my DNA was there. Well there was a mix up with Google and I couldn't get back in my account. So I called support line. I was so upset angry crying. This gentleman talked me through it all. He stayed calm he let me have time to breath. He definitely deserves a raise.

I'll sent my sample in hoping to confirm dna relation to someone who could be my half-sister. I paid for priority processing and have finally made it to the last phase. We have been impatiently waiting for the results. The estimated timeframe for processing has too many contingencies but we will see. I'm hoping for results by tomorrow!
Reply from Ancestry.com2026-07-20
Thanks for sharing this with us, Donielle. We know the wait for the results can be an anxious time. Once a kit reaches our lab, the testing process can take up to 6 weeks, though with priority processing, the results are often ready in 4 weeks. We hope that the results can help you with confirming that relationship, and if you'd like some tips for making the most of your Match list, please don't hesitate to check out the guide below. Thanks again for stopping by, and have a lovely day as well!

Great program but expensive.
Need to improve the search engines. Need to reduce costs in order to attract more subscribers, especially when food and other necessities are so high.

Live person...YEAH. AI.....yuk
AI is not worth any thing at all. I had to type in so much info with basically the question asked. I finally got to the point of just saying read what I wrote.
However when I FINALLY was able to talk to a live person, I got help. He was very kind and helped me. Finally someone that knew what my problem was and how to resolve it.
Reply from Ancestry.com2026-07-16
Hi Carol, thank you for sharing your experience. We completely understand how frustrating it is to deal with an automated system when you just want a quick answer to your question. We are so glad you were finally able to connect with a live agent who was kind, patient, and able to get your issue fully resolved! We really appreciate your patience, and we will share your feedback with our team to help us improve our support options.

This is a wonderful review, Christine! We appreciate your shout-out on our customer service team! We' are so glad to be part of your family research journey! Thank you for being here!
I have been able to use birth records, marriage records, census, and other historical records to take my family tree back to the 1500’s and in some cases the 1200’s. An interesting fact my family never knew, for example, is that we are part Irish. We found out about Margaretta Byrde (the early 1900’s writer). She is my Great Great Grandmother and I now own some of her books. We learned there was a name change in one case and we found the beginning of our last name in another. I am really enjoying it and love finding new connections to English Gentry, Castles, and Noblemen.
Reply from Ancestry.com2026-07-16
Hi Christie! Tracing your tree all the way back to the 1200s is an amazing achievement, but finding out that your Great-Great-Grandmother was the writer Margaretta Byrde, and now owning some of her books, is absolutely magical! We are honored to help you and your family bring these stories to life. Happy researching!

Best of a sorry lot
Being the best of a sorry lot is Ancestry's chief strength. That and extensive, bordering on the edge of dishonest, advertising. Less-than-competent techs are always implementing changes that increase processor load and slow the efforts of users trying to get things done. There are periods of processor bottlenecks every day at the same times which make it impossible to get anything done. Ancestry is deaf to suggestions. More than 20 years using Ancestry has me evaluating alternatives nearly every other month. And finding only disappointment.
On edit: Ancestry.com's reply (below) is appreciated. It may seem canned but includes specifics; AI generated? Hard to take it seriously, though, as everything in my review (above) has been posted directly to Ancestry's feedback page multiple times. And ignored. It is good they have an AI chatbot personalizing responses to negative reviews. It would be FAR BETTER if they actually did something to address negative comments.

not enough info. there are many 2% matches on relatives???? i have never heard of any of these people. my sister and daughter should have been at the top of the list because they have used ancestry. and i do have a lot of relatives in the area. this was a total waste of my money.

Family Tree Maker and Ancestry
-------------------------------------
My response to Ancestry's reply:
A curious response from Ancestry to approach McKiev to ensure this doesn't happen again. It won't happen again to me as I will not ever again sync. I'd imagine these two companies have some form of contract/agreement to allow syncing and any issues thst arise. My FTM is more or less fixed or in the process of being fixed. My Ancestry tree data will no longer be fixed by me. Ancestry doesn't make it easy to do so and in any event I'm removing myself from that product. The end result is that there are hundreds of defective data points in My Ancestry not of my doing...which in the order of things will be offered up to other subscribed Ancestry Customers, as hints going forward.
I'll leave you, Ancestry, to deal with McKiev to fix your data as I won't be.
-------------------------------------
It's hard to work out which product is at the root of this review so both products will receive the same worded review:-
Family Tree Maker (FTM) and Ancestry are connected, in that syncing of data to and from Ancestry and FTM is a feature. It relies on you having a paid up subscription to Ancestry it seems.
At the outset I've now cancelled my subscription to Ancestry but will persevere with FTM as a standalone database as I'm at the stage of finessing my data only. On that, I've often wondered how useful some Ancestry data is. It relies on other individuals standards and its plain to see, when some so called genealogists aim for quantity rather than quality. I know of numerous trees that exceed ridiculously high numbers above 10 to 25000 names many aiming for a Duke, Lord, Royalty, Clan Chief at the head. Truth is most of us don't go back that far, in actual real records.
Point of this review is to warn others not to hope that syncing is failsafe. If my recent experience is anything to go by, avoid it at all costs, is my advice.
In hindsight, I foolishly I ran the sync tool in FTM. It took and unearthly length of time (which was a clue but no way to abort it without turning the computer off) and at the (the so called successful with no error messages) end, the carnage it created in both environments was soul destroying. My Ancestry Tree now has many individuals displaying the "~blank f i" label and in FTM missing connections (although most data is still stored but no longer linked to the actual tree. Not the easiest to reinstate!
I ended up with 500+ duplicated individuals (some more the twice) that I had to merge labouriously over about 3 plus hours. Plus then there are now all the duplicate media (pictures) now attached to many individuals. I dare not try and fix.
I could restore using a previous backup (I save to backup several times a day) but from experience that doesn't always make things better and work is required fixing stuff ..been there done that.
So, many years of careful research muddled up substantially through no fault of mine. Reading some other reviews this is not an unknown issue and possibly something to do with server failures at one end or other.
Please treat this as an advisory from someone who is no stranger to genealogy or IT.
Reply from Ancestry.com2026-07-16
Hi Geoff, we are so sorry to hear about the syncing issues that disrupted your tree and created so much extra work for you. We know how frustrating it is to spend hours merging duplicates and fixing broken connections.
Because the syncing tool relies on systems managed by MacKiev (Family Tree Maker), please consider reaching out to their support team directly for help preventing this from happening again.
Hints Update Has Made It Much Harder to Edit Without side by side Hints and Edit Column on a Single Screen!
I went onto my account this evening and discovered that the Hints page had been updated since last night. I DO NOT like the update at all! Before I was able to view the hints on my screen side by side with the Edit column. This made it easier for me to copy the information from the hint without needing to switch back and forth between pages. Now I am unable to double check the hints while editing or copy information such as place of birth and death by placing both side by side. This makes it especially difficult if I am editing place names with names in languages other than English. It was much easier to have the edit column and the hints side by side on my screen. Now I will either have to switch back and forth between the two to enter every single name and double check for correct spelling, or I will have to take notes by hand and then type that information into the edits. With increasing problems with arthritis and numbness in my hands it is much easier to type than it is to take notes by hand. My experience with Ancestry.com has been positive up to this point with the ease of being able to makes edits while viewing the hints all on the same screen. This change might force me to explore other ancestry research sites to find something easier to use, upon which time I will cancel my Ancestry.com membership. Do the people who make these updates ever use the site themselves? Obviously no. Because then they would have known they were making it harder for users to edit information with the information they have verified by looking through the hints. VERY POOR UPDATE!! I am now incredibly frustrated with doing the research work! Thanks Ancestry.com for ruining one of my favorite pastimes with a single update! I no longer feel like doing the work!
I just tried to edit the first ancestor of the day. Without being about to view the hints with the edits side by side I struggled to remember the place of death. I have a migraine and having to switch back and forth between screens to get all of the information added made me feel too overwhelmed and I gave up without finishing the edit. I am frustrated to the point of tears. I waited years to be able to afford a membership in order to complete the ancestry research done by my late father and continue my own. I was looking forward to working on it this evening. But one single update has made it too hard for me to do. I am now extremely disappointed.
Reply from Ancestry.com2026-07-16
Hi Christie, we hear you loud and clear, and we are so sorry for the frustration and tears this update has caused. You have waited years to be able to jump into this research, and it is incredibly disappointing to have that momentum halted by a layout change.
Having to switch screens constantly is exhausting, and we completely understand why you had to walk away. We are sharing your specific feedback regarding the side-by-side layout and the physical accessibility challenges of taking manual notes directly with our engineering and design teams. We want to ensure Ancestry remains a tool that empowers your research, and we appreciate you letting us know where we missed the mark. Dogged research…
I'm a pretty dogged researcher and have visited England, Ireland and Canada several times and have found the houses and streets where my ancestors lived. It's been great fun and very rewarding. In my most recent visit to County Cork, I was thrilled to find the hand-scratched full name of my Great Great Grandfather who lived in the late 1700's.
