What reviewers say

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complained about the flawed moderation system, reporting that automated tools often led to unfair and unexpected account bans. People also experienced frustrating website changes, constant errors, and broken features that made navigation and daily use extremely difficult.
Some reviewers were happy with certain aspects of the platform. Consumers noted that it provides a good space to support independent artists, discover creative content, and showcase great artwork. Reviewers also found the platform fairly easy to navigate when first getting started as a content creator to develop an audience.

I believe that if these criticisms keeps going in the next years, I think that it will be closed, like other platforms similar to it which got shut down. I will tell why I said this: I accidentally used on my first channel at February of 2023 a Gmail of a highschool by mistake, and then when I made a second one in December 2023, I left my old work in the old channel, and in this year in February, I tried to re enter in the old channel but the secretary deleted the old code of the school and it says "access blocked" and I hope that in the future, deviantart would be shut down so my old channel would be deleted. This makes me sometimes in tears on the inside...😞😞😞 (please don't put anything else, or else it will make me feel worse) and I also saw others who made a second channel.
Can no longer log in. After an hour NO success! Don't waste your time with these cyber idiots. Like most cyber idiots, they have absolutely NO common sense when it comes to helping people. So gather your content; these cyber idiots will be out of business shortly.
For several months I operated a creator account on DeviantArt, during which the platform monetized my artwork through subscriber-only premium galleries. DeviantArt accepted subscription payments from users and retained commissions from those transactions.
The platform actively promoted and encouraged me to upgrade to an annual PRO subscription plan using discounted upgrade offers. I accepted the upgrade and paid for the annual subscription using revenue that had been generated directly through DeviantArt’s own monetization system and subscriber payments.
Approximately two days after the annual subscription upgrade, DeviantArt permanently terminated the account without prior warning and without offering an opportunity to remove or correct the allegedly problematic content.
The content cited by DeviantArt had already existed on the platform for an extended period, had passed upload moderation systems, and had remained monetized prior to the termination decision.
As a result:
I lost access to the paid annual service almost immediately after payment;
approximately 29 paying subscribers lost access to over 80 premium galleries they had already purchased access to;
and DeviantArt retained both subscription revenue and commissions despite terminating the service unilaterally.
I attempted multiple times to resolve the matter professionally through customer support. Responses appeared automated, dismissive, and ultimately ceased entirely without meaningful review or resolution.
My concern is the commercial fairness of:
monetizing content over an extended period,
encouraging additional paid subscription upgrades,
accepting annual subscription payment,
and then terminating service almost immediately afterward while refusing any proportional refund.
As a corollary, NEVER buy an annual subscription, and ALWAYS download the contents you buy asap, before the platform bans the author and you lose access to your images. I've never found a company with this level of arrogance and lack of quality
After years on DeviantArt, hundreds of dollars spent on memberships/subscriptions, and over two years of building galleries, original fantasy artwork, and custom characters, seeing an account permanently banned without any prior warning has completely changed my opinion of this platform. I understand websites need policies and moderation, but there should be better communication and opportunities for creators to correct mistakes before losing everything they built. Many artists genuinely did not understand how aggressively the newer AI/manipulated media policies would be enforced. What makes this even harder is seeing other accounts posting far more explicit celebrity content while smaller creators lose years of work instantly with no chance to recover their own files or artwork. Because of this experience, I will no longer be financially supporting DeviantArt moving forward. Artists deserve clearer communication, consistency, and at minimum a way to recover their own creative work after a ban.
Do not give them your money! You have no rights on DA!
Fraudulent behaviour, no "support" (it's just called like that) and huge issues in moderating content. Usually some AI driven system bans you for no reason and not giving any examples. No appeal possible, they simply stop answering you after 1 or 2 (seems to be always the same pattern) canned messages. And of course they keep your money.
So if you paid for CORE membership with the yearly prepayment ($150) - it's gone, they keep it.
If you paid for the so-called "EXCLUSIVES" - another waste of money. You actually don't own the works "you buy". This money as well - gone, they'll keep it.
A vile mix of arrogance and ignorance.
I have never been on a platform that operates in such an arbitrary and user-hostile manner. Incredibly poor AI systems simply do whatever they please. Whether you are a paying user who has always acted in full compliance with the platform's rules and applicable laws makes absolutely no difference on DA. Here, you have no rights.
They take your money and ban you- in an overwhelming number of cases- without cause. Their overwhelmed AI flags some upload of yours (whether image or text) as "forbidden" or "unwanted" simply because it lacks the capacity to understand your content. And just like that, you're out the door.
Support? Forget it. Replies? Forget it. Justifications, evidence or manual review? Forget it. A refund? Don't make me laugh - they keep the money.
In my case, the initial claim was "underage." When they couldn't substantiate that (because it was 0% true - the AI had simply totally misread my content), they pivoted to "unacceptable fashion." I don't even know what that's supposed to mean!?
Evidence? They failed to provide any. Because they don't have any. And just like that, you're banned. Not for a few hours, days, or even a week or two - as they claim on their website. No. The AI simply kicks you out "forever." Because nobody reviews or cares.
SO:
-Do not trust this company!
-Do not give them your money!
-Use ONLY (if at all) the free account and do not purchase any digital goods there!
You are left completely at their mercy,
reduced to the status of rightless cash cows.
A funny side note:
Their *own* AI tool (DreamUp)- which they constantly try to push on you and for which they expect you to pay hefty fees - generates "wonderful" works featuring underage content, deepfakes of real people, hardcore fetishes, pornography and copyright violations. *puke*
You can find plenty of examples of *that* online... apparently, if you use and pay for *their* AI, those works get to stay online...
(Kept screenshots and messages just in case someone doubts my story.)
I sent 1... 2... 3, 4, 5 tickets in regards to my pseudonym account wrongfully suspended in 15 months and none of them were ever acknowledged!
When I finally rant about pseudonym purposes on my main, it costed my main account permanently!
Now a year later, no reply to my main account suspension appeal!
So hope these guys and everyone else like them go out of business!
I am well aware pseudonyms and aliases fall under sockpuppeting, but take a minute to think about this: how would YOU feel if some weirdo got a hold of your personal info or learned something embarrassing about you then used that info against you? Then there's an errand or quest you HAVE to accomplish one way or another!
I lost 170 free prompts (downgrade) without any communication. My new Core sub is doubled in price (from 49$ to 79$ yearly) since last year, and with less free prompts, from 300 to 200. Very disappointing.
DeviantArt has become a mess of toxic AI moderation and nonexistent communication. Support barely responds, and appealing decisions feels impossible because users can’t properly open disputes themselves. Clearly 18+ artwork keeps getting falsely removed for “underage content,” while actual copyright protection feels useless — people can repost or even sell your work with little consequence despite the supposed DMCA system. The entire platform feels automated to a fault, with real human oversight practically absent. The moderation system is frustrating, unfair, and deeply unreliable. Avoid giving them your money.
I’ve never been more glad to have deleted my account in 2023/24. Not only due to the 100 tag/user block limit but some fandom groups acting like cults over a “bad” series & infamous episodes.
Though minor-aged users are better off going onto more sfw sites that have proper filtering.
I personally have nothing against suggestive/nsfw drawn content, but they clearly belong to more ethical mature sites which ironically have much better filter and tag systems.
The most insane recent update in 2026 is that non-DA users can only view 10 images of an account! How would they see the rest of the users’ content!? Searching tge stuff instead of requiring sign-ins like Facebook!? Why? Not everyone should be obligated to sign up for every existing big site just to see a handful of things!
At this stage, I really wish that any good active user should completely migrate to more manageable art sites that don’t have AI overflow or terrible staff! I genuinely feel sorry for those good people who were too used to using that accursed website.
I have had a very frustrating and disappointing experience with DeviantArt, My core pro+ account got banned.
The moderation on this platform feels completely inconsistent and, in my experience, often arbitrary. Accounts and content can be banned without clear or understandable explanations, which makes the whole system feel unreliable and unfair.
CP and C#ildabuse art is weirdly tolerated, while other users seem to get treated much more strictly with normal content. This double standard is extremely frustrating and hard to understand.
From what i can tell, the issue may have been that I didn't include pronounce in my bio.
You guys, this site was never good. And the rampant fetish freaks and weirdos that have been plaguing the site made it even worse, not to mention dealing with some people that are either incredibly rude, or just downright annoying. Take it from someone who use to have an account there, but around 2019, when the site changed their layout, it gotten MUCH MUCH WORSE, now the site is just like every other site that's still around. Complete nonsense.
As of now it's impossible to download images with download programs.
With galleries counting thousands and even tens of thousands of image making an user go trought them manually is simply insane, rendering the site comletely unusable to anyone that just don't want to browse only a few images each day.
Once one of the best site now has become one of the worst, good job.
There is rampant double standards. They kicked me once and said i posted underage stuff. At the time i had over 1000 posts and had just paid for a major upgrade. They ignored every attempt i made to find out what happened and to get a refund. They stole my membership money. And there were several accounts putting up big 4 and 6 minute videos with music. Fancy. And you watch and its pretty hot, but then boom.....a girl that appears 14 or 15 is being felt up by a 60yo woman. And in that video that same girl and 1 other were flashed to 3 or 4 times each off and on. It was underage stuff hidden in the middle of a big video. Since that time I've tried to make new accounts and start over. I post for 2 or 3 weeks and get dumped again. However, i was using accounts on 3 month trials, no money spent. Today i got dumped cause a picture depicted a suggestion of nonconsensual sex. Lol!! Meanwhile you get scroll around and find vampires, demons, zombies, aliens, monsters, plants, snails, gators, lizards, and etc having sex with screaming girls. Gee deviant art that seems like more than a suggestion!! DONT USE THEIR SITE!! AND DEFINITELY DONT PAY FOR USAGE.
I have created three accounts in succession and they have all been deactivated with no reason given. The third account was deactivated today which is the very same day that another user anonymously gifted me with core which in my opinion is not worth it. I have not been able to discuss this with a person mediator or anyone because you can't talk to a real person and by the way they do not refund anything so if you paid for a whole year they take it. I've had nothing but good experiences with the other artists all of them being so kind but this website is terrible because of the people who run it. I am now looking for alternatives to deviantArt because I cannot tolerate them any further.
[update, 07/10/2026]
I have been meaning to get around to updating a few of my reviews based on company resonses and this is one of them. I logged back on, maybe 3 days to a week after writing this review, and the site had changed to have the sta.sh file button back on the page. I am very sure I did not miss this before. Though, there is still the chance that I did, but I'm nearly 100% sure I didn't. Changing my rating to 1.3 stars because of this. I still can't rate above 1 star due to the absolute degeneracy I have always, and would continue to see when using it, if I still used it today... but I won't be back.
[original review:]
negative 3 stars. went back on there to find my saved (private) artwork, and its nowhere to be found. can't find any of it, nor the manage deviations tab and have been looking for at least a solid 20 minutes. I need those artworks for (well, not only that they took hours to complete) but I need them for a job/portfolio. I can't find how to contact them, so I'm resorting to trustpilot, and maybe they'll answer but... DOUBT. I've been on this website since junior high.... put aside that there has been a fetish p*rn problem on this site for over a decade, this site is just absolute horse manure. It's sad that you have to talk ish about these companies on social media now to get a response.... and we'll see if I even get that here. I've been perusing through their "contact" and about use forever now and still no way to contact them, no email, no phone number, nothing. 0 accountability. I wouldn't have recommended them to begin with, but now I will actively try to stop others from using them if I find out they do. not worth the trouble. Saving my artwork from these people and deleting my account
because the second you log in like 3 days ago it will start to show very inappropriate art depicting a fictional character which they underage show feet and dont get me started on the AI this is a art website? then AI defeats the point just go to pixiv
My Core Max Account was Deactivated Indefinitely on or about 3-8-26. After 6 months of having the Core Max Account which I never did get my 5 free boosts each month which I complained to the support group about several times. I disputed the fact I was posting inappropriate images but was told I couldn't appeal the Indefinite Suspension & that half of the $192 I paid to get the Core Max Account which I had remaining on my core max account wouldn't be refunded. I felt the images I was posting were no different than what lot of other members were posting. Their rules for images posted are pretty much left to the interpretation of the reader & are almost impossible to follow unless you are just posting images of Daisy's ... IMO
This site has fallen, and fallen rather badly. Deviant Art now relies on poorly trained AI moderation, where if you want to post underage material and/or Furry (including furry underage) material or chose to make it through Deviant Art's "Dream Up" AI art system, you are welcome with open arms, and can do no wrong in the management's opion.
If however you choose to make obviously 18+ images of human males/females and with following Deviant Arts own "Etiquette Policy" and/or have to submit a trouble ticket, then the management will respond to you, but will also suspend/cancel your account as you had to have management do their actual job.
It is heartbreaking to see such a site that was once beloved turn so vile and toxic.
WARNING TO DIGITAL ARTISTS: Absolutely ZERO Seller Protection
If you are an artist planning to sell digital designs or Premium Downloads on DeviantArt, run away. There is a massive loophole that scammers are actively exploiting, and DeviantArt does absolutely nothing to protect its creators.
Here is how the scam works: Buyers purchase your digital files, download them immediately (handled automatically by DA's system), and then issue a chargeback or dispute. DA refunds them automatically without any investigation.
The result? The scammer gets to keep your artwork for free, and your earnings are entirely wiped out. I recently lost $50 in a single day to a user who bought multiple files, downloaded all of them, and then refunded everything. This is not an isolated incident; "friendly fraud" is rampant here.
DeviantArt has the backend logs proving the files were downloaded, yet they refuse to cover the loss or protect the seller. Until they fix this glaring issue, selling digital goods here is basically letting people shoplift your hard work. Go to platforms that actually respect and protect their sellers.
