Best way to earn my doctorate in…

Best way to earn my doctorate in Educational Leadership - I never would have done it if I had to go out to a brick and mortar college while working and taking care of family.

Funny Story

Funny story. Recently while attending the ACBSP National Conference in Washington, DC, I learned from an NCU administrator that there was a part-time Marketing position available. I have a Ph.D. in marketing, 14 years experience in the college classroom, and have been awarded both a "Faculty Member of the Year" award, and an "Academic Advisor of the Year" award in the last four years from two different universities. However, much to my amazement, my application was summarily rejected saying I wasn't what they were looking for. My only diminishing quality must have been my academic background, a Ph.D. from NCU that not only carried no weight for me as an alumnus, but was pretty much valueless as an academic reference, as well. Go Roadrunners!

A great citadel of learning

A great citadel of learning, with great academic and non academic staff who have passion for success for all, especially the students.

My NCU Experience

I had a good time at NCU. The professors were very responsive, and the assignments were appropriately challenging. I started my doctoral journey in July 2013 and finished, dissertation defense and all, on January 25, 2018. I remember the exact date because it is my birthday as well. I couldn't have received a better birthday gift! I have read negative reviews about NCU. My experience was positive overall. My only problem was having to re-take my comps because one of the four essays "did not meet the criteria." Obviously, I had to spend more money to retake the course, which boiled down to just rewriting that one essay. Not a pleasant feeling, but I knew what I wanted, so I worked harder than the first time and completed the comps.

I got 90% through a PhD

I got 90% through a PhD, and there was no support for actually getting through the dissertation process. I floundered for 7 years trying to navigate the dissertation process, and my concept paper was never approved. I presented a great concept at the 3 year mark, but NCU wasn't staffed to support it. I refined and refined and refined the concept for 4 years, and they still didn't approve it. They said I had a committee, but no committee really existed. I spoke to someone in admissions, and I finally realized what was happening. They admit many and only allow a few to graduate. And, when I say a few, I mean a few. Beware of NCU. Do not go there. If you are trying for a PhD at NCU, drop out now and find a different program. You have been warned. NCU is a scam school. I am not a disgruntled student. I just want the truth to be known. Buyer beware!

Alumni contact experience and feedback to NCU.

My contact with NCU was great and very nice. I asked a few questions and the university responded comprehensively to me. They answered all my questions to my satisfaction. This accredited university should be the first choice for prospective students with limited budget and want to work and study at the same time. You can earn a very respected quality education with the state of the knowledge that will make you effective on your job and daily activities.

accreditation

Hi, I went looking for a teaching job in the business department of the local university. But they said the accreditation of your program was not good enough. Please consider bumping up your accreditation. Thanks, Nancy

You are slower even for a funeral

You are slower even for a funeral. Extremely late to do what you have to do. An approval to change the doctoral program to Ph.D. it took 2 months to record the change. Finally I said forget it. Another approval for a course was given on July 14. So far it has not been recorded. This is unacceptable.

There were communications issues which may be over now.

To be fair, my experience wasn't overly recent. It's been around a decade now. My main problems at the time included a general lack of communication between advisors, the school in general and me. I had a course and I found out that I had done work for a week but there was no instructor to grade it. I had one instructor who wrote the same acronym as my grade justification. When I emailed her about it, she ignored me. Lastly, I felt that the instructors steered me all over the place instead of along the path I wanted/needed - with the exception of one. I regret that I don't recall his name. He was tough, but patient when I complained to him. He called me after the class was over. I believe he taught a database course.

NCU Makes it Manageable

NCU allowed me to work full time while managing a doctorate degree. The pacing is perfect to stay on track without getting overwhelmed. As with any university, some professors are better than others, but the majority were supportive and helpful. My dissertation committee was fantastic.

I was a transfer from Concordia Portland and the transition was smooth. I attribute this to my faculty chair Dr. Heather Miller who is completely amazing. My experiences with my advisors were wonderful. I hope new students coming into NCU would be as blessed.

I enjoyed my time learning with each faculty, each subject and each opportunity I had to complete assignments, upload my assignments and receive feedback.
