This was an outright failure by both the host and Outdoorsy. The host never provided a legitimate pickup timeframe and then cancelled at the last minute, leaving us stranded. Outdoorsy’s response was even more disappointing—they offered zero accountability, zero support, and zero resolution. They want the commission, but not the responsibility. A platform that refuses to stand behind its customers is not a platform worth trusting.

Hi there,
We're incredibly sorry to hear about your experience. This is certainly not the type of experience we want our guests to have.
Upon review, we can confirm that both parties had agreed to a pickup time of 4:00 PM. In an effort to accommodate a later arrival, the original pickup timeframe was extended; however, when it became apparent that the pickup would not be completed by the agreed-upon time, the host ultimately had to cancel due to a prior work obligation that required them to leave at 4:00 PM.
We understand that unexpected scheduling challenges can arise. As many of the RVs on our platform are independently owned and operated, hosts often balance rentals alongside their personal and professional commitments. While we recognize the inconvenience and disappointment this situation caused, our review of the communication indicates that the host made efforts to accommodate adjustments before determining that the booking could no longer proceed within the available timeframe.
Lastly, we are pleased that a full refund was provided following the cancellation. While we understand that a refund does not replace the time spent planning for a trip, we are glad that the matter was resolved promptly by the host and our customer support team.
Thank you for taking a moment to share your perspective.

This has been the worst company I have dealt with. Don’t believe what the rep tells you. They have an option to cancel I have done it twice, I’m told it’s on my end. The representative stayed on the phone walked through the process I already did, they claim I didn’t do it right. They took money away saying it was my fault because the cancel didn’t go through now we are on second cancel and they are telling me it didn’t go through again after rep stayed on phone while I did it again. Awful company to rent from.

DO NOT RENT unless you are 100% sure you will be using the RV. I requested to rent a camper in July and had to cancel just a few days after I made the reservation. The non-refundable portion of my 3-day rental came to over $140. Had I waited a couple of days longer, it would have been more. Further, a $145/night camper with fees and taxes came to over $354/night. I will NEVER use this service again. On the bright side...I used their customer service via phone twice, and both times I received excellent service.

Hi Milan!
We're sorry to hear you had to cancel your booking, and we understand your dissatisfaction with the host's cancellation policy. As a peer-to-peer marketplace, cancellations are automatically processed according to the host's selected policy, which is agreed upon at the time of booking.
Upon reviewing your account, it appears that your host has a Moderate Cancellation Policy, which stipulates a full refund of the nightly rental amount if the booking is canceled before 6/17, while service fees and their associated taxes are non-refundable. We have confirmed that your partial refund has been successfully issued to your original form of payment.
If you have any further questions or concerns about your refund, please feel free to reach back out to our 24/7 Customer Support team via live chat or by calling 877-723-7232, and we'll be happy to assist you.

This response from outdoorsy is full of baloney and made up stuff:
“Regarding service fees on items such as fuel, cleaning, or dumping charges, these fees help support the infrastructure, payment processing, customer support, trust and safety measures, and dispute resolution services that facilitate transactions on the platform. Additionally, these charges help maintain consistency across bookings and fee structures.
While we are not suggesting that this applies to your business practices, service fees on these charges help discourage situations where costs are shifted away from the nightly rental rate and into add-on fees. Maintaining a consistent fee structure helps promote transparency and fairness for both guests and hosts across the platform.”
Outdoorsy takes 25% of the nightly rate already and charges renters outdoorsy fee and then Outdoorsy has the audacity to take a cut from dumping, fuel fees too and etc… then has the audacity to charge sales tax and all sorts of other fees to the renters and take more money from RV owners so where is the transparency on that when both renters and owners are surprised of how much Outdoorsy add on top of what the owner charges at the end of the trip? Outdoorsy does not do like dumping tanks, clean the RV and fueling up the RV. If outdoorsy wants to make more money and be really transparent on what they charge then charge upfront the renter so no surprises and don’t make a kickback of money from RV owners when we supply other services to renters to make them happy and satisfied. That payment should go to the rv owner when we do above and beyond. You guys just know how to make money out of renters and RV owners. I feel bad for renters that on top of what I fairly charge them that Outdoorsy will bump it up and take cuts from my own fair charge. The fact also that when a damage occurs during rentals and the owner missed the 48 hours window to file a claim that they will dismiss it already. They don’t investigate properly. One staff will request for a letter when I already sent a few days ago. They don’t take in consideration the phone calls I made with outdoorsy for my claim and messages exchanges between me and renter about the claim WITHIN 48 hrs but when they think that a message was asking for payment outside the app they will send you a reminder but when it comes to damage conversation they will just dismiss it like it didn’t happen. Their only concern was to make sure to make more money out of what they have charged the renter initially. The damage has happened during rental and there was an excess policy bought by the renter anyways to repair any damages so why not use the insurance that was bought by renter to fix the RV? Outdoorsy will run out of RV to rent at some point if they don’t want to take care of the RVs that bring them business.

My experience with Outdoorsy was extremely disappointing.
The very first day of the trip, several advertised amenities in the van were not functioning properly, resulting in unexpected out-of-pocket expenses. I contacted outdoorsy about the issue who suggested i apply for a 50% refund which i found unjust, so i requested a refund only for the unexpected extra expenses. Outdoorsy contacted the host who initially agreed to reimburse me for a smaller portion of these unforeseen costs (~35%), which i ultimately agreed to it so we could all move on from the situation. I expressed to an outdoorsy agent on a private chat that my review of my outdoorsy rental would reflect my entire experience so i would wait until the resolution of the issue before writing it...
Weeeelp Unfortunately, this Outdoorsy agent apparently threatened the host with a negative review on my behalf and the situation deteriorated. Rather than helping facilitate the resolution that had already been offered, outdoorsy's involvement appeared to cause the host to reverse their position entirely. What started as a reasonable agreement between the host and me ended with no resolution at all.
The most frustrating aspect is that Outdoorsy did not advocate for me or work to preserve the solution that was already on the table. Their mediation process actually made the outcome worse. Instead of helping both parties reach a fair conclusion, they effectively eliminated the only compensation that had been offered.
I understand that disputes can be complicated, but I expected professionalism, competence, and customer advocacy from a platform that markets itself as a trusted intermediary and gets suuch a large cut!
Instead, I experienced poor communication, ineffective mediation, and a complete failure to protect the customer experience.
I cannot recommend Outdoorsy based on this experience. When problems arise, the true value of a platform is demonstrated by how it handles them. In my case, Outdoorsy’s involvement turned a manageable issue into a much worse one and i still have credit card expenses that i am struggling to pay but was very little money to the host and outdoorsy, especially after i spend over 1,500 with them! Sick to my stomach! Beware!

Hi Lu,
Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we're very sorry to hear that you feel unsupported during the dispute process. We want to assure you that our Resolutions team’s goal is to act as an impartial, neutral mediator. Their role is to objectively review all platform messages, documentation, policies, and all evidence provided by both parties to reach a fair outcome, rather than advocating for one side over the other.
We would love the opportunity to investigate your feedback further; however, we're unable to locate your account and booking with the information available here. Please contact us at [email protected] with "ATTN: DALE" in the subject line. We look forward to hearing from you.

Rv owner here that rents through outdoorsy. Outdoorsy is a pain dealing with damage claims, they say that they investigate claims but not really, they hire customer service staff from other countries outside of US who can’t really be in person to see the actual damages and they also charge renters unnecessary fees and kick backs such as getting a kick back from dumping and fuel fees when it’s the owner that do the work and dump tanks and spends on the fuel cost. Why does outdoorsy has to have a share of those charges? I will not be for long renting my RV in this platform and will take them to court for all the damages that renters did on my RV that they refuse to cover due to technicalities. The insurance bought by renters still has the obligation to pay for the damages they have caused!

Hi Josie!
Thank you for sharing your perspective. We understand that claim outcomes and platform fees can be frustrating, particularly when there is damage to a vehicle and expectations regarding coverage are not met.
Regarding service fees on items such as fuel, cleaning, or dumping charges, these fees help support the infrastructure, payment processing, customer support, trust and safety measures, and dispute resolution services that facilitate transactions on the platform. Additionally, these charges help maintain consistency across bookings and fee structures.
While we are not suggesting that this applies to your business practices, service fees on these charges help discourage situations where costs are shifted away from the nightly rental rate and into add-on fees. Maintaining a consistent fee structure helps promote transparency and fairness for both guests and hosts across the platform.
We recognize that you disagree with certain claim decisions and appreciate your feedback regarding the claims process. Coverage determinations are based on the applicable policy terms, available documentation, and the specific facts of each claim. We understand that these decisions are not always the outcome hosts hope for, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns.

Hi Kraig,
We understand that canceling plans is disappointing, and we’re very sorry to hear you're dissatisfied with the host's cancellation policy. As a peer-to-peer marketplace, all cancellations are processed in accordance with the host's cancellation policy, which was agreed to at the time of booking.
Upon reviewing your account, it appears that your host has a Strict Cancellation Policy, which stipulates that the nightly rental amount is non-refundable, while add-ons, delivery fees, prep fees, protection packages, and their associated taxes are refundable. We have confirmed that your partial refund has been successfully issued to your original form of payment.

I recently rented a campervan from Las Vegas Campervans. It’s a family business renting Dodge Promaster City vans. They bit through Outdoorsy.
The van had 128,000 on it and you pick it up at a storage yard. The ventilation fan did not work, 3 or 4 tires were low in air (dash light came on) and kept getting Service Airbag System warning light meaning bags were not working.
We kept contacting Las Vegas Campervans and were little help. I had to call cc to dispute part of charge. BEWARE if you want SAFE vehicle

Hi Bern,
We're sincerely sorry to hear you had issues with your RV rental. This is definitely not the standard we aim for. After looking into this, we found that your reservation was booked directly through the dealer's website, not through Outdoorsy. Please reach out to them directly to handle your dispute and any further questions.
We have passed your comments along to our Marketplace Quality team so they can review this dealer's listings. Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience.

Beware of the hidden money grabs. Outdoorsy advertises affordable rates, but their checkout process is loaded with undisclosed service fees, ambiguous platform charges, and forced insurance add-ons. They do everything they can to inflate the final price. Very disappointed by the lack of pricing transparency. I had originally booked and was paying $217/day (I calculated this myself by taking the full price I paid and divided over the days). When I added one more day to the trip a week later, they charged me $263 for the extra day. When I contacted the customer service team they couldn’t explain the reason for the increased fees. They said the same generic “taxes, service fees, and insurance” but couldn’t break down or show me how the service fees had increased $46 for adding a single day, even when accounting for the insurance and sales tax. And you can’t pay the host directly because they force you to go through their platform so they can collect the service fees. I reached out to the host directly and he didn’t mention raising his daily rate but said I had to go through the website. I understand the business model but if you want repeat customers you need to earn trust… and Outdoorsy has failed to do that.

Hi Chuck!
Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective with us.
Please allow me to clarify that Outdoorsy operates as a peer-to-peer marketplace platform. This means that, aside from our standard 10% service fee, hosts independently determine nightly rates and additional fees associated with their listings.
While we are unable to authenticate the specific experience described based on the information you provided to this platform, generally speaking, nightly rate fluctuations can sometimes occur due to host-configured pricing settings, such as weekend pricing, holiday rates, seasonal adjustments, or other automated pricing factors.
Transparency is vitally important to us, which is why Outdoorsy provides a full cost breakdown prior to booking confirmation. This includes nightly rates, guest fees, optional host add-ons, insurance protection costs, taxes, applicable service fees, etc., so guests can review the complete pricing details and ensure they are fully informed of the total reservation cost before completing their booking.
We encourage you to contact our support team directly and verify your account information so we may review the reservation details more thoroughly and provide additional clarification specific to your booking.
Thanks again for taking a moment to share your feedback! It's greatly appreciated.

Well, somebody should have told me how to actually complete the rental. I chose an RV, input my dates, received a cost summary but couldn't find a way to actually make the deal. Tried dealing with the WORST AI experience I've ever had (and AI is ra rarely a good experience but dont get me started). After an eternity of trying to make the deal, I was offered a phone number. I called it and met a nice guy who helped me navigate the peculiar procedure used by this company. I had to "register" but was never told this on the website; I was directed to messaging the owner who never messaged me back. I put my phone number in the message bc I wanted to arrange to SEE the vehicle in person before I committed 4000 dollars. Two things: at this point I was creating a process based on many experiences of buying and renting stuff on the internet and doing it without any direction from Outdoorsy. Well, somehow I failed. Then, I got an email: "you haven't completed rental...." Against my better judgment, I took the bait. I was offered AI disguised with a human name. Finally, I know what AI is going to do; it's going to make murderers of us all. Now, after hours of effort, I still have my money but no RV. Anyone out there willing to rent an RV to a retired attorney with the highest credit rating available, money to burn, and passionately wanting to experience RVing for a couple of weeks? I'm your guy.

Hosts can cancel at last minute without penalty leaving buyers in a terrible position. Customer service is an AI bot. Awful. Will never use again after this rental.

Hi James,
We’re really sorry you had to deal with your original booking being canceled, we know that’s never a great experience and can throw a wrench into your plans. While we do everything we can to prevent cancellations, there are times when something unexpected comes up, like in this case where the host’s tow vehicle needed repairs after a prior rental. We completely understand how frustrating that can feel, especially when you’re counting on everything going smoothly. That’s exactly why we have a team dedicated to helping guests through last-minute changes and getting things back on track as quickly as possible. We also take cancellations seriously on the host side, and they can face impacts to their rating along with potential financial penalties.
That said, we’re really glad you were able to find a replacement so quickly, that’s always a relief in situations like this. As for the chat experience, our AI is there to help with quick questions, but it’s definitely not meant to replace a real person. If it ever feels like it’s not getting you where you need to go, just type “live agent” or “representative” and you’ll be connected right away. You can also call our Customer Support team at 877-723-7232 anytime, we’re here 24/7 and always happy to help.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience with us, we really do appreciate it.

I have been cancelled by the host not the day before, not the week before, 7 hs after the pick up time (i was gonna pick up 5 pm instead 9 am) for a problem with the motorhome that they knew 2 weeks in advance. I lost my rv camping fees. My wife flew from toronto for this trip for her birthday. Such a joke. Stay away from this site.
The Funny thing is the host messaged me the day before to confirm. Haha. Great service outdoorsy!! Keep it up, 👍

Hi Agustin,
We’re truly sorry for the disruption to your trip, especially given the extremely short notice of the cancellation. We understand how frustrating that must have been, and it’s not the kind of experience we want for our guests, so thank you for bringing this to our attention.
After reviewing the situation, it appears the host canceled due to a stolen battery and delays in securing a replacement. While we recognize the circumstances the host faced, the delayed communication is deeply concerning, and appropriate actions have been taken to address this directly with the host. This should have been communicated much earlier so you had more time to make alternative plans.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this caused. A full refund has been issued to your original form of payment, and I’ll be reaching out directly to address any additional concerns and see how we can better support your future travel plans. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us.

As a RV owner using Outdoorsy for about 2 years now, I can only say great things about Outdoorsy! The customer service is great and the website is easy to manage. I have had no issues with Outdoorsy and will continue to use them for my vehicles.
Hi Bryant,
We're sorry for any confusion regarding the delivery fee on your booking request. Upon review, it appears that you selected the host's optional "Delivery Service" add-on. Please allow me to clarify that this is separate from the standard delivery fee. As per the description, the Delivery Service is an additional service provided for the dropping off and picking up of the camper at your home. If you do not intend to use this service, please update your booking and remove the add-on on your trip page.
Should you need any assistance, please feel free to contact our 24/7 Customer Support team via chat or by calling 877-723-7232, and they'll be more than happy to assist you. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
