Cute branding, deceptive billing — they gaslit me when I tried to cancel
I want to be fair: some of Sprinly's meals are decent. But the billing practices are where this company shows its true face — and it's not the wholesome, vegan-friendly brand they're selling you.
Here's what happened:
Had some digestive issues, so I toggled off my next two delivery weeks on their website. Their own platform confirmed: subscription suspended. I also sent a written cancellation request via email to firm it up. Despite both of those actions, they said they had already charged my card the morning for a delivery a week away I explicitly wished suspended and then I just cancelled.
The rep told me it was "not enough time" — even though their website had already confirmed the suspension. Then came the gaslighting: she suggested I must have cancelled the subscription itself, implying I didn't know what I was doing. in fact, I did both. First, when she pushed back on a charge reversal. At that point, I wanted out completely. I have screenshots of every step.
Their solution? A store credit. After I cancelled the subscription? I don't need a credit for food I can't eat easily — I have been vegan for years but encountered a digestive condition and told them so. I asked for a refund to my original payment method. They said they "can't issue refunds." I said: then mail me a check. They have gone silent.
So, I filed a complaint with the FTC (Report #201645730) under the Negative Option Rule. Their own website confirming a cancellation while they bill you anyway is textbook negative option abuse.
A few other things worth knowing:
Heavy reliance on roughage — if you have a sensitive stomach, GI issues, or IBS, proceed with caution. Many dishes are fiber-dense in ways that aren't disclosed upfront.
Reheating is inconsistent — air fryer doesn't work well for some dishes; pan is better, but it's not as grab-and-go as marketed
Overuse of standard chopped tofu across multiple dishes — lacks the variety they advertise - almost a cliche. but again, some of the food is well done.
Plastic packaging is still prevalent despite the eco branding — the recycled filler in the box is a nice touch, but don't mistake aesthetics for actual sustainability
No phone number for customer service — the BBB noted they refused to provide basic business information and have no listed phone. Email only, which conveniently slows dispute resolution
This company markets hard to health-conscious customers who trust the vegan-organic brand identity. That trust deserves to be honored. Billing practices that contradict your own website's confirmation, then gaslighting customers who push back, is not a vibe. It's a red flag. Do your research before subscribing. Cancellation is not as easy as sign-up — which is exactly what the FTC's updated rules prohibit.

Hi Al, and thank so much for your review! We are so sorry to hear about the subpar experience you had with Sprinly 😔 It looks like we did go ahead and resolve your concerns in less than 24 hours by way of a refund. While all of our Guarantees and Policies are clearly stated on our website prior to signing up for your subscription, we understand that new subscriptions can be tricky as you're getting started, and so we were happy to make an exception for you.
We definitely encourage folks to do their research by reading through our website prior to subscribing. For example, we do not offer air fryer instructions, as we have not done the internal testing on them - stovetop, oven, and microwave instructions are recommended and included on each meal container. This information is stated on our FAQ page.
Further, charges are never processed after cancellation - upon closer inspection, it looks like your subscription was cancelled after your final order had been processed. We would never withhold an order that you paid for, of course! Our order cycle and deadlines are also stated on our FAQ page, as well as our "How It Works" page, and in your "Welcome" email, which you received after signing up for your subscription.
Our phone number is also clearly listed on our website, at the bottom of the page, contrary to the report that you mentioned. So, if there are any further issues that are as yet unresolved, we would welcome you to continue your email conversation, or feel free to contact us on the phone. In the meantime, your refund should be visible in your bank account in 9 or fewer business days, given that the refund was issued on May 13th (yesterday). Thanks again for giving us a try, and have a great summer!
I really like that the food is organic, vegan, and gluten free! Some of the meals are tasty. The downside is that the plastic packaging (meal container lids and flimsy sauce containers with separate lids) often breaks ; this causes me extensive amounts of time to find the missing plastic shards so that I don't eat them. Unfortunately, there are many times I cannot find the plastic shards and have to toss the meal. I have reached out to Sprinly several times over the last few MONTHS and, while they are responsive (meaning that they respond promptly), they say the SAME thing every time, that Sprinly is exploring alternate packaging. Yes, Sprinly refunds the meals which have damaged packaging, but the broken packaging causes frustration as then I have one less meal available to me. While I would normally write a 5 start review, I am leaving a poor review due to the packaging.
I am in Nashville where we are experiencing power outages all over the city. Sprinly agrees to cancel my order for this week because I have not power and have been rescued by friends in a nearby town. I appreciate that they are real human beings with compassion!

Terrible food that you can’t get reimbursement for on the second week
I received my mails and all the meals and each of the meals was mixed together in mailing. The food was terrible. I called as soon as I received my mails, which were late that I didn’t want anymore. They would not allow me to cancel and kept my $109. The only option they gave me was to order another set of horrible meals. Don’t buy this brand.
I've tried most other prepared or ready to cook meal kits. Sprinly...hands down...is the best. The meals are all delicious (I'm not a vegetarian but these meals are better than anything else I've eaten..absolutely delicious. I highly recommend them and although the cost is a bit higher than other services.. I promise it's worth it.
First let me say the food is fantastic! I love the low sodium content. A lot of other food delivery companies boast about being healthy but their sauces are full of sodium. They have preservatives and added sugars. Sprinly delivers if you’re really looking for healthy. The food is real, fresh, without preservatives and added sugars. They have life sustaining food for living healthy lives. I enjoy the healthy vegan options. It saves me time and clean up to order from Sprinly. No, it’s not cheap. No, it may not get there the day you expect it, maybe a day later. But it’s mostly beans, vegetables, and grains. They should be good an extra day with the cold packs in the shipping boxes you get. I haven’t had a problem yet. I only gave a 4 because yes I would love if the meals were cheaper and came as scheduled consistently. 4.7 is more accurate. Because I too, gage grocery shopping around delivery but I guess I may have to adjust if saving time and not doing dishes is worth a little inconvenience. I really do love this company.

I wish I would have read some of these…
I wish I would have read some of these reviews before placing an order. In big bold letters it says the meal is delivered on Jan 6th. The package still shows in transit on the 7th with an estimated delivery on the 8th! I contacted them and they gave me some BS story about how they say that it could arrive Wednesday (7th) but if it arrives on the 8th it will still be edible. BS. I was so irate because I didn't go shopping because the meals were supposed to be delivered and was super busy and ended up having to go to a fast food restaurant. I called my credit card company to dispute the charge. These subscription meal delivery services are the worse. They have the gall to charge you before you can even order the food. It is abhorent. Done with all of them!

Gaslit by Customer Service
**UPDATE** They did end up refunding me and apologizing that it was in fact their error, although this should have been done before I even needed to argue with them.****
I had not one but two poor experiences with this company:
1. Meals were delivered completely warm all the way through. Yes, I live in AZ in the summer, but I've ordered hello fresh for years and Thistle too, and have never had an issue with their packaging. Instead of taking the blame, their customer service blamed it on FedEx. I had to BEG them for a refund.
I decided that when it gets cooler out, I would give it one more go, because i have a lot of food sensitivities and Sprinly is one of the only places I can order from. Big mistake
2. I reactivated my membership on Wed so I could choose some meals for the first week of November. I made sure to skip meals for the coming weeks as it would still be too warm. I woke up today to see my card was charged and the website said I had meals coming this week. I reached out to customer service, and was totally gaslit- they claimed I did in fact order, and since I didn't change it before Tuesday night, it would be shipped. But i only reactivatd my account on wednesday so that is impossible. Instead of being trying to help, they blamed it on me AGAIN and denied to give a refund. I wanted to like this company, but I guess the customer is never right in their eyes.

Delicious and convenient meal service!
I absolutely love this meal service and all the meals have been so delicious! I’m the only person who eats plant-based in my household and this works incredibly well for me. A lot of times after making dinner for my family, I don’t set time or effort aside to make something healthy for myself. I just end up eating whatever is quick and convenient. Sprinly provides restaurant quality meals that I can enjoy everyday. For me, the cost is worth it because maintaining healthy eating habits is priceless.

Nope
Nope. The meals on the first order I received were not edible. I got them with the gel packs defrosted and leaking all over the meals and the meals were warm to the touch. The companies only solution is to give you a credit. So I order again. The new set of meals were delivered today. We tried the Bean Burrito bowl, which only consisted of beans and rice. The meal had no flavor and the accompanying "salad" was soggy. We then tried the Lasagna, all I can say is YUCK. There was a inch thick tomato sauce on top and through out the meal so you only taste sour tomato, and again, the salad was soggy. Next we tried the Pesto Pasta with Sun-Dried Tomato Cakes, NO NO NO. I didn't mind the cakes but they were burnt on top. We ended up throwing out all 12 meals and since they don't have a refund policy, I guess we are out $200.00. I don't know who's trying these meals and saying they taste good, but they don't. I've cooked Plant Based Meals, so I know they can be very tasty. I think Sprinly needs new recipes.
Your freezer bags were not frozen , lettuce was wilted , seniors don’t like tour food. And you didn’t make it plain to cancel by Tuesday night. So I’m stuck with six more bad meals. We realized I was a better cook than y’all . Sorry, I only wanted to try for one week . Mariann Douglas
I've only had two bowls so far, and both were not as fresh as they should be... lettuce was wilty/brown in one and the cabbage was brown in the other. The one with cabbage had hardly any flavor, either. I added salt and cilantro, but it was still almost inedible. I ended up dousing it with Bachan's Japanese barbeque sauce so it could get eaten. Kind of misses the point, then... I don't really want to eat the rest of the meals since these two were not very enjoyable.
I’ve been needing to have a more vegan diet so this service is wonderful. Fresh, organic, gluten free, and delicious! This week the ice packs were still very cold on arrival but not frozen at all. I’m sure the food is fine but hope those packs will be frozen next time.
The food is excellent I want to order again and will now. I was unsure at first because of communication problems. It was difficult at first trying to call and email and not getting a response. It has been resolved and will order again,
