I already filed my taxes and paid you but they were never submitted electronically???????
Reply from TaxAct2026-06-02
Hi Ken, that's a really frustrating situation, and we completely understand why you're concerned. The payment and filing steps are separate in TaxAct, and it sounds like the distinction between the two may not have been clear enough during your experience. If you're unsure if your return has been filed, you can go to efstatus.taxact.com to check. If it has not been filed yet, you can open your return and click on the Filing tab and proceed through all of the steps and click on the Submit button. Please reach out to us at [email protected] if you need additional assistance.

The expert I paid $35 didn't believe that part of the Solo K contribution was Employer Contribution as instructed in Publication 560 Deduction Limit for Self=Employed Individuals - Qualified Plans. Seemed a bit annoyed with me.

Overall I enjoyed using TaxAct.
Overall I enjoyed using TaxAct.
I find it to be the one of the most use friendly among the Freefile apps
There were some sections completed on my behalf that were not clear to me, so I would recommend getting familiar with tax forms before or while filing.

Thank you for the kind words! We're glad TaxAct stood out as one of the most user-friendly Free File options for you. That's a great tip for other filers too — getting familiar with the forms along the way can really help make sense of the process. We'll keep working on making those auto-filled sections clearer so everything feels more transparent from start to finish.

The questions guided me well
The questions guided me well. Also the AI tool was helpful. This app saved me money by asking questions that guided me to the correct way to file regarding IRA's. It suggested I could contribute to an IRA to reduce my taxes. Another tax prep service told me I could not take the credit. I even verified with IRS that I could take it to be sure. Thank you for the simplicity of this site and the guidance it gave me to enable me to figure out how my unique circumstances enabled me to take this credit.

That's a fantastic win, Susan! 🎉 It's so great to hear that our guided questions and AI tool helped you navigate your IRA contributions and uncover a tax credit that another service missed. That's exactly the kind of difference we hope to make for every filer.
Thank you for taking the time to verify with the IRS and for trusting TaxAct to help you work through your unique situation. Knowing the app saved you money and gave you confidence in your filing truly means the world to us!

Doesn't seem like I saved anything by filing myself and online
It was not as easy to navigate as I would have liked and I was shocked that it cost $70 to file my state taxes! In the past I remember paying 60 to file both. This time I paid 60 just for Federal and expected state to be included but definitely didn't expect it to be an additional 70! And on top of that it was another 60 transfer fee. To be honest that is close to the 250 that a live, in person accountant was going to charge me and I may start gong that way now that taxact isn't more convenient or a cost savings.
Reply from TaxAct2026-06-01
Hi Jeremy, we appreciate you sharing this feedback and understand how the total cost may have felt surprising compared to what you remembered from previous years. Pricing and what's included at each tier can sometimes feel unclear, and we hear you on that frustration. The value of filing online versus other options is something we take seriously, and feedback like yours helps us understand how customers are experiencing our product. We're sorry the experience didn't feel like the convenience or savings you were expecting.

"Surprise" pricing
I don't like that the pricing does not show up until you have filled out the form. It helps with their conversions but it is kind of sticker shock. $100 for a simple return is pretty expensive. I have to fill out 1041 forms for trusts as well so those are even more expensive but it is cheaper than an accountant and Taxact helps me keep information together.
Reply from TaxAct2026-05-27
Hey Chris, thanks for the honest feedback! We hear you on the pricing transparency — that sticker shock moment is something we genuinely want to improve, and your input helps us do that. We're glad TaxAct is still saving you money compared to an accountant and keeping everything organized, especially with those 1041 forms in the mix! 😊
Navigation could be improved but other features are worth it
It's a little frustrating to navigate when you want to go back to a specific page (FreeTaxUSA does this better), but otherwise this is a great tax software. It's the only one that properly handles registered domestic partnerships in CA and still allows you to e-file! The new AI filing assistant is also very helpful, but be careful - like any AI, it can make mistakes.

Thanks for the detailed feedback, Sabrina! We hear you on the navigation frustration, and that's something we genuinely want to improve, so we appreciate you calling it out.
It's great to know TaxAct is hitting the mark for registered domestic partnerships in CA with e-file support, and we're glad the AI assistant has been a helpful addition. Your heads-up about double-checking AI suggestions is a smart reminder for everyone! 😊
