Misleading Booking Options – Be Careful When Using Agoda
I recently made a reservation through Agoda and selected “Non-Smoking” and “2 Beds” during the booking process. Those options were clearly available to choose from, and I specifically selected them because two separate beds were necessary for my stay. However, when I arrived at the hotel, I was told the reservation was for one king bed only, meaning two people now have to share a single bed for 9 days. This is not what was selected during the booking process. The problem is that Agoda’s website allows you to select bed configuration and smoking preferences, but it is not clearly explained that these choices may not actually be part of the confirmed reservation. Presenting options like this can easily mislead customers into believing they are booking a specific room setup when they are not. From a consumer standpoint, this is very misleading and poor practice for a global travel booking platform. When travelers see selectable options such as bed type, they reasonably expect that choice to be honored or clearly guaranteed. As someone who regularly reviews travel booking platforms, hotel sites, and airline services, transparency in the booking process is extremely important. If a choice is only a request and not guaranteed, that must be clearly stated before payment, not discovered at the hotel after arrival. I strongly recommend Agoda review and amend their booking interface to make it clear when room features like bed type are not guaranteed, otherwise other travelers may end up in the same situation. Travelers should double-check directly with the hotel before arrival if bed configuration is important, because the options shown during booking may not reflect the room you actually receive.
