Brain dead tech-only customer service - unusable
[In reply to IBKR's response...if you read what I said, you'll see after much effort I submitted a web ticket only for your system to throw an error.] I started signing up for an account a little while ago, but paused while sorting other stuff. I just tried to complete that. It told me the account type was wrong, so I cancelled that app. Then I was stuck in a login loop where it just takes me back to the login page, saying "Your application was cancelled" - er, yeh, I know. Tried to submit an inquiry, tried the bot, tried the FAQs etc etc etc ad infinitum. Then tried to submit an inquiry. Was told that I already had an account, so I need to start the inquiry process again on a different path. Tried that, it insists on an account number which I don't have. So I try the other way again using a different email address. ....and it says "Thank-you for your inquiry" followed by "There was a problem, try again later". I get that for day to day use this should be hands off, with little need for customer service, but if they can't even be bothered to help when I'm trying to open an account after bombarding me with "Experience the Benefits of an IBKR Brokerage Account" emails for months (from no-reply addresses of course), I think I'll pass, thanks.
