Be careful when paying for Uber on its app
Be incredibly careful when paying for an Uber ride. I am a very rare user who only utilises the app for occasional transport and never touches Uber Eats. Yet, after paying for a single ride on 20 March, Uber used a deceptive, hidden "free trial" loop during checkout to quietly sign me up for an Uber One membership without my explicit consent. I only noticed the £4.99 monthly charges several months later on my card statement. A review of my account history proves I have not taken a single ride or used any Uber services since March—meaning I paid for a subscription I never wanted and never used. When I contacted customer service to complain about this unauthorised sign-up, they flat-out refused a full refund, only giving back the most recent July charge. They completely ignored the core issue: that their interface tricks people into automated subscription traps. This is a highly unethical way to extract money from occasional users. When I ask for the complaint procedure, they just ignored me and closed the chat with "no response needed". I’ve had to resort to a bank chargeback to get my money back. Shocking and deceptive customer practices.
