A nightmare journey
My friend and I were going to London on Wednesday for an important consultant's appointment in a hospital at 6:30 p.m. We were travelling from Cheltenham and due to catch the 1503 train to London .it did not arrive . There were no loudspeaker announcements, and an express train arrived at about 15.05. We assumed this was the London train arriving late, and only when the doors were closed were we told we were travelling to Bristol! No announcements had been made at all As to where this train was going . Great consternation was expressed by us both as we realised we would be late for this important appointment., we arrived at Bristol Parkway with my friend who had just had a new knee three weeks beforehand and was finding it very difficult to walk. We crossed the track and boarded a subsequent train for London to our relief. We arrived at Bristol Parkway and had to cross over the bridge. My friend had just had a new knee only three weeks beforehand, and she should not have been walking so far. I too have heart trouble, which was why I was going to the consultant. I might add we are 79 and 83 years of age. So after waiting another 20 minutes on the Bristol Parkway platform, we eventually caught a London train. All was well, and there we eventually set off. We're still very late. Imagine our horror when, as we approached Reading, we were told that this train had to stop and we had to get out and get on yet another train to London!Fortunately, we met a GWR official on the train, a Mr. Douglas Rimmer, who turned out to be the finance director of GWR. He saw our distress and worry over missing the variant, and did all he could to try to lead us to find a quick taxi. We shall be forever grateful to that gentleman for his help. We were fortunate enough to get a taxi quickly in Pared Street, which got us to the hospital late, but the journey was just terrible. I'm afraid I can only give you two stars for it.
