Booking a room via Expedia will cost more than what the hotel charges-They Scam you out of money!!!
When I booked a room via Expedia on July 23, I prepaid with a credit card in the amount of $283.66. When I checked out this morning, the hotel gave me a receipt for $192.64. That is a difference of $91.02 being overcharged by Expedia. In trying to resolve this with Expedia Customer Support, I got this canned response: "The rate that you saw on the receipt is the agreement rate from Expedia and the hotel itself since we buy bulk of rooms to the property that's why we have that rate and it should not be disclosed to our customer since it will cause confusion, I assure you that you will not get that rate from the hotel since that is our agreement rate. Its impossible that receipt is really the price that we paid the hotel. Since we get blocks of hotel rooms we are able to get them at lower prices than the average consumer. If you refer to your confirmation email, the Payment Details section is your receipt for what you paid for Room Price as well as taxes and fees. To give you heads up, Hotel pricing and availability is always subject to change. It is possible the price on that receipt is the going rate now, and not what it was prior. Rest assured you paid the lowest price available at the time of booking. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I understand why seeing a different rate on the hotel receipt would be frustrating and confusing. Just a heads-up, the rate shown on the hotel receipt may be a pre-negotiated supplier rate between Expedia and the hotel. Since Expedia often secures rooms in bulk or through special partner agreements, that rate can be different from the total price you see and pay. Your total includes the room rate plus any applicable taxes and fees, along with the services involved in processing and supporting your booking. " I interpret this to mean we paid the hotel a smaller sum than you paid us, so we will keep the rest. Then as a resolution to this problem, the escalated support supervisor wrote: "Please note that the receipt provided by the property reflects the rate Expedia paid to the hotel. Expedia often negotiates discounted rates with hotel partners by purchasing room inventory in advance, which allows us to offer competitive pricing and package benefits to our customers. However, as a valued customer, I would like to offer $91.02 in OneKeyCash for the difference you identified. This OneKeyCash can be redeemed toward future prepaid hotel bookings and will remain valid for 12 months from the date of issuance." That is not competitive pricing, that is jacking up the price and Expedia wants to give me play money that I can only use with them in the future and be scammed with a higher cost room. DO NOT GIVE EXPEDIA YOUR BUSINESS. They jack up the prices and keep the difference.
