Wish I could give no stars. If you are considering using Expedia 1st go into the bathroom mirror and slap yourself as hard as possible and then come back here. Ok done? Great this is the 1st step to recovery. Expedia and their insurance company Generali are a HUGE scam and rip off service. Use any other service but them and if the other service has any connection to either Expedia/VRBO or Generali run like hell. I reserved a property for Nov 2026 in March of 2026. We decided to stay elsewhere and canceled May 12th 2026 WELL IN ADVANCE of the cancelation policy Expedia claims youll get a full refund for if done before Sept 6th 2026. Expedia charged me a separate charge for the $266.06 trip insurance and then pays that to their 3rd party rip off company Generali Insurance and they have this little bullshit clause about Free Look and give you 15 DAYS to cancel to get your trip insurance refunded. Anything past the 15 days youre screwed. So go anywhere other than Expedia/VRBO or Generali unless you want to get bent over and screwed without so much as a kiss.

I have been booking packages & flights with Expedia for years, this time the have shown me the true colors of this called agency,,I have booked a reservation for hotel & flights separately & unfortunately the flight got canceled due to the weather,I have requested help from Expedia for the hotel due to change on my flight & Expedia have played me with all types of psychological games telling me what it wasn’t the truth, called more than twenty times & no help at all,of course I took the matter in my own hands & called the hotel & I was lucky with the call I’ve made to fix my issues & I was very lucky with the person who pick up my call & within three minutes on the phone the lady fixed my problem without any hesitation,of curse when I did arrive at the hotel the help with the hotel went beyond my expectations,,if anyone out there book with Expedia & have any issues don’t bother asking for help because the games they play on the phone aren’t a joke, the answers seem to be real when the reality is totally different,I have explained to them over the phone that I was traveling with two kids & what pisses me off is that the keep on lying to me during all the calls I have placed regarding the late arrival date at the hotel,I have give them one star but the truth is that isn’t even worth giving them any good feedback,Expedia do better with the customers who all they want is book & have a good time, something they didn’t do with all the time they make me waisted on the phone,I have tried to find the right words to used with my experience and still can’t find them with such experience,👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎hopefully someone out there can read this review & avoids going through the ridiculous process I have went through & experienced.please read all the reviews and we all learn something new every day like I did..

Expedia has horrible business practices and even worse customer service representatives. They lie and pretend to be managers when they are not. They do not help at all. I had to file a complaint with the BBB.

They inadvertently simply cancel your bookings with no reason or way to communicate with you. Use Expedia to find your place to go and then go to that place to actually make your booking. Expedia is not a trustworthy platform

We reserved a hotel for an event we were working, anticipating the need for accommodations, particularly as it coincided with enrichment week at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Our required arrival time for the event was 3 PM, with check-in also scheduled for 3 PM. However, as we needed to be present for setup, we proceeded to the event venue directly. Given that we had received confirmation of our room reservation, we did not anticipate any issues. After the event we went to the hotel no remind you we came from Pa and it was 12am in the morning we just needed a place to lay our head. They told us they had no rooms available also that the fourth floor was closed and they were renovating now remind you we spent over 300 dollars for 4 nights because we were staying the whole weekend. After contacting various hotels, we were unable to secure a room within the city. We had to travel to Akron, which was a 30-minute drive, and paid an additional $156 for a single night. Then on top of that we had to secure another hotel which was a dump smelled terrible, there were fleas, no coffee pot, no TV in the living room, beds and towels were filthy. There was so much drug and party activity you would think it was a free for all. We paid another 276 for 3 nights a total of 700 some dollars for 3 hotel. I have other reviews saying the same things we were saying. I want our money back I reported to the better business bureau I am also going to report you for not researching your hotels better for people who were coming out of town this is totally unacceptable. Then Expedia told us we cancelled and couldn't get our money back which we didn't as you can see in the above paragraph. I want this resolved if not I will go hirer maybe even involve the police in this matter.

Extremely Disappointed with Expedia
My vacation has been ruined because of Expedia. I was sold airline seats that were apparently no longer available, and now, 24 hours later, I am still stuck at the airport trying to get to my destination.
What is most frustrating is the lack of customer service. I have received no clear answers, no explanation, no useful feedback, and no reassurance about how this situation will be resolved.
I understand travel problems happen, but Expedia should take responsibility when customers are left stranded because of an issue with a booking they made through Expedia.
I paid for a vacation package expecting Expedia to help when something went wrong. Instead, I have been left to deal with the problem myself.
I strongly recommend thinking twice before using Expedia for a vacation package. Customers deserve better communication, accountability, and support.

I hope more people see my review, as well as the many similar reviews here, and proceed with caution when using Expedia.
I booked a flight through Expedia. When I reached the payment stage, their system froze and then informed me that the transaction had not been successful, prompting me to repeat the booking. I did so and received my ticket on the second attempt.
A few days later, when the transactions appeared on my bank account, I discovered that Expedia had charged me for both attempts. To be clear, I never received a confirmation, itinerary or ticket for the first booking attempt. I only became aware that Expedia had processed it when I saw the charge on my bank statement.
I have since made several calls to Expedia’s contact centre. I was repeatedly placed on hold, calls were disconnected, and I then had to call back and explain the entire situation again. I eventually resorted to written communication, both because the calls were so frustrating and because I wanted a clear record of what Expedia was telling me.
Unfortunately, the written responses have been equally frustrating. Different customer service agents have given me contradictory information about the same refund. Expedia has also repeatedly tried to frame this as an issue between Air France and me, despite the fact that I made the booking through Expedia and my bank statement clearly shows Expedia as the merchant that charged my card.
At one point, I was told that Air France had agreed to refund the first ticket but would deduct a cancellation fee. I challenged why I should be penalised for a duplicate booking that resulted from Expedia’s own system telling me that my first transaction had failed and instructing me to book again. Another Expedia agent later contradicted the previous communication altogether, despite me providing a screenshot of their colleague’s written confirmation.
That is really the heart of my complaint: this was not simply an accidental double booking on my part. I made the second booking because Expedia’s system explicitly told me that the first transaction had failed. To date, I have never received the first booking confirmation by email.
Expedia has still not clearly acknowledged its role in what happened or provided me with one consistent explanation of the status and amount of my refund.
The constant back-and-forth has been exhausting. I regret having to write such a negative review, but my experience of Expedia’s handling of this matter has been one of poor transparency, inconsistent communication, inadequate accountability and very little regard for the customer experience.
I will update this review if and when Expedia resolves the matter satisfactorily.

I have used expedia for simple bookings fine in the past. I had them book a vacation package, and they booked the hotel in a different part of the country than where we were flying. They took no accountability for this(minus the fact that I should have caught this as well). I will do my best to never use their services again.
Not sure how to respond to reply, but have reached out 4 times to your "support" desk and they have been no help. I cannot spend further time recovering what you have lost for me.

Only had 2 experiences with Expedia.
Once was for a VRBO rental (owned by Expedia) - turned out to be a total scam and ruined my holiday.
Second was booking a rental car through them. Also got completely scammed by the rental company, and Expedia refused to give me my money back.
Avoid at all costs.

Horrible experience with expedia. I would not recommend this company for anyone. The company essentially lied to me during cancellation, saying I will receive airline credits, confirmed by email and are still visible on my account. However, when going to use these credits apparently they do not exist! The customer support has been awful and they have taken significant time to offer essentially no help whatsoever and refuse to understand their mistake. Do not book with expedia.

Expedia is basically a scam website cosplaying as a legitimate business. I tried to cancel my booking because the hotel I booked with was falsely advertised as being in a location that it was not actually in. Expedia made up some story about the hotel having a nonrefundable policy. In reality, this is Expedia’s own policy and they refuse to issue any refunds or cancellations once the booking is made. I had a really horrible experience with the customer service team in trying to cancel my booking and their initial response was for me to try to get me to lie to the insurance carrier to try to get a refund through them so they could save money off my booking! They also tried to blame the non-refundable policy on the hotel I booked with instead of explaining that this is their own policy. Their entire business model is to try to collect payments from customers in the hopes that customers never need to cancel their bookings! The customer service agent named Manuel also tried to lecture me and blame me on my communication with the hotel. What a nightmare!! I will never be using Expedia again!

Expedia / Orbitz , yes they are that bad . For a top tier company you'd think they are more proficient at handling issues . I recently booked at trip at the Holiday Inn Express near Newark airport. Figured it may fe better to stay local than to to drive back amid World Cup traffic . Within 2 hrs of checking in June 27, a loud thumping noise above began . I immediately went down stairs to alert from desk . Not only did she dismiss my complaint, she told me the people up stairs paid and they can do what they want . When I asked for her name and title she refused as did her colleague. I then called Expedia . Spent 29 minutes on phone . They apologized and said they would change room . They never did . Then a dog started barking across the hall in another room. Poor thing was left unattended . Was also scratching door since the occupants weee not in room . Had to call Linden NJ police department. Beyond surreal . Despite all the documentation, Expedia did nothing! Have to battle with Amex and BBB for redress . Avoid Expedia/ Orbitz if you can !

Booking a room via Expedia will cost more than what the hotel charges-They Scam you out of money!!!
When I booked a room via Expedia on July 23, I prepaid with a credit card in the amount of $283.66.
When I checked out this morning, the hotel gave me a receipt for $192.64.
That is a difference of $91.02 being overcharged by Expedia.
In trying to resolve this with Expedia Customer Support, I got this canned response:
"The rate that you saw on the receipt is the agreement rate from Expedia and the hotel itself since we buy bulk of rooms to the property that's why we have that rate and it should not be disclosed to our customer since it will cause confusion, I assure you that you will not get that rate from the hotel since that is our agreement rate.
Its impossible that receipt is really the price that we paid the hotel. Since we get blocks of hotel rooms we are able to get them at lower prices than the average consumer. If you refer to your confirmation email, the Payment Details section is your receipt for what you paid for Room Price as well as taxes and fees.
To give you heads up, Hotel pricing and availability is always subject to change. It is possible the price on that receipt is the going rate now, and not what it was prior. Rest assured you paid the lowest price available at the time of booking.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I understand why seeing a different rate on the hotel receipt would be frustrating and confusing.
Just a heads-up, the rate shown on the hotel receipt may be a pre-negotiated supplier rate between Expedia and the hotel. Since Expedia often secures rooms in bulk or through special partner agreements, that rate can be different from the total price you see and pay. Your total includes the room rate plus any applicable taxes and fees, along with the services involved in processing and supporting your booking.
"
I interpret this to mean we paid the hotel a smaller sum than you paid us, so we will keep the rest.
Then as a resolution to this problem, the escalated support supervisor wrote:
"Please note that the receipt provided by the property reflects the rate Expedia paid to the hotel. Expedia often negotiates discounted rates with hotel partners by purchasing room inventory in advance, which allows us to offer competitive pricing and package benefits to our customers.
However, as a valued customer, I would like to offer $91.02 in OneKeyCash for the difference you identified. This OneKeyCash can be redeemed toward future prepaid hotel bookings and will remain valid for 12 months from the date of issuance."
That is not competitive pricing, that is jacking up the price and Expedia wants to give me play money that I can only use with them in the future and be scammed with a higher cost room.
DO NOT GIVE EXPEDIA YOUR BUSINESS. They jack up the prices and keep the difference.

They make it incredibly difficult to make any changes to your itinerary. They offer no benefit as being a third party for hotel reservations. There was a clerical error in our booking. They refused to change it. Hotels hate them and working with them. They refuse to cancel it even though we tried to cancel it within a half an hour of creating it. They refused to refund our money. Because their customer service staff is headquartered outside of the United States they are not well suited to advocating for their clients. We booked another stay with the hotel directly in person. Expedia claimed that they had tried to reach out to the hotel and that the refund was canceled. When I reached out to the hotel they could not confirm this. There is literally no benefit to booking through Expedia Beyond maybe saving 5% and I don't believe 5% is worth the several days of hassle that I had communicating with their customer service. Which does not in any way value customer service by American Standards. I falsely assumed that because it was a large organization that they would have more negotiating ability than they do. There is no benefit to booking through Expedia other than perhaps efficiency. I will use them for Price monitoring and for ease of search. And I will book directly with hotels from now on. Their customer service is frustrating and inept and they will refuse to take any accountability even when they fail to do their job. They stole money from me is how I look at this.

I booked a hotel that was attached from Expedia fraudulently and the hotel doesn’t use Expedia. I contacted Expedia and they called the fraudster and he told them yes I stayed there. I gave them the real number of the hotel and they said they aren’t allowed to contact any number unless it is registered!! Way to go fraud dept!! The fraudster is the number you have! I have contacted. Your help line and fraud department three times. They said they would get back to me within seven days and that was a month ago.
