Interactive Brokers

ISA account setup has become needlessly confusing and frustrating

I am trying to add a straightforward personal ISA account with Interactive Brokers, but the process has become unnecessarily confusing and frustrating. Instead of simply giving me a personal ISA user account in my own name, IBKR appears to have added four different accounts that I can't even log into the relevant ones. That may make sense internally to Interactive Brokers, but from a customer perspective it is opaque, poorly explained and has left me without the clear ISA account setup I actually need. I have worked in IT for around 40 years as a developer, software engineer and data architect, so I am very familiar with account structures, permissions, admin roles and user provisioning. This does not feel like a user misunderstanding. It feels like a poorly designed onboarding workflow, unclear terminology and support that is not properly resolving the account architecture problem. The most frustrating part is that this should be simple: I need a personal ISA account for myself. Instead, I am trying to decode IBKR’s account structure and work out why an admin/family ISA arrangement has been created without the basic personal ISA account being properly available. Interactive Brokers may have a powerful platform, but the customer experience around UK ISA setup and support has been poor. The terminology, guidance and support process need to be much clearer. I have now raised this formally and hope someone at IBKR with proper knowledge of the ISA account setup process will resolve it. If they do sort it out properly, I will update this review to reflect that. At the moment, however, this has been a disappointing and exasperating experience.
