EaseUS

Waste of time and resources

One of my external HDDs wouldn't show up, not because the disk had died but because the SATA interface card had malfunctioned. After taking the disk out and connecting it to another interface card, I discovered that the disk was not readable because the disk had been converted into RAW format. I installed EaseUS Partition Manager (henceforth EPM) and EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard (henceforth EDRW). EDRW showed I had 2 partitions for some reason, which was a bit of a surprise, as I had never re-partitioned this drive, so it should have been a single 4TB partition. Anyway, EDRW scanned for 12-15 hours and then showed that I had 5.7TB of data stored on a 4TB drive (usable space 3.63TB)!! Like, what?! But it also showed I had a Lost Partition of 4TB (which violated its own data of showing me I had 2 partitions). So I tried to recover that partition using EPM. EPM scanned for 23 hours and then said no lost partitions found, while their own EDRW software told me there was. Total waste of time. Wasted 2 whole days of mine and god knows how much of my HDDs life was reduced due to this 2 day long scanning process across both software at which point its internal temp rose to 53 degrees celcius. I then asked around in a forum and was told to use TestDisk. Its freeware, very rudimentary command line interface, but it detected almost immediately that I had a single partition of 4GB, but that my BootDiskSector was corrupted. Unfortunately, it was not able to recover the BDS, but fortunately, it also showed all the correct files I had on the HDD, and I was able to recover these files by copying them to another HDD. EaseUS softwares wasted my time and resources, while a rudimentary freeware got the job done.
