iPostal1

Not ideal for single LLC with multiple DBAs

I was interested in utilizing iPostal1’s service and was excited because it appeared to check all of my boxes. Before signing up, however, I wanted clarification about receiving mail for multiple DBAs operating under a single LLC. I contacted iPostal1 by both phone and chat and unfortunately received conflicting information. My questions were: 1. I have one LLC with multiple registered DBAs. Are the DBAs considered separate businesses for mailbox purposes? * I was told yes, and that each DBA would require its own subscription. While that wasn’t the answer I hoped for, I appreciated the clarification. 2. If my mailbox is registered to Business Name, LLC, would mail addressed to Business Name, LLC d/b/a Fictitious Name be accepted since the primary addressee matches the registered mailbox holder? * One representative told me yes. * Another representative told me it would be returned to the sender because the DBA was not listed on the account. Receiving conflicting answers about such an important policy made it difficult to have confidence in the service. I was also told this limitation exists “per USPS.” While USPS requires Commercial Mail Receiving Agencies (CMRAs) to identify who is authorized to receive mail, providers may have different procedures for documenting trade names and DBAs while remaining compliant. As a result, presenting this as simply a USPS requirement may leave customers with the impression that every provider must handle DBAs this way, which is not necessarily the case. If iPostal1’s policy is to require separate subscriptions for each business name, that is certainly their prerogative. However, I believe that policy should be communicated clearly and consistently so prospective customers can make an informed decision before signing up. Ultimately, iPostal1 simply wasn’t the right fit for my business structure, but clearer and more consistent communication would have made the experience much better. Businesses operating under a single LLC with registered DBAs are becoming increasingly common. I would encourage iPostal1 to consider a policy that accommodates this business structure or, at minimum, clearly communicate the limitation before customers subscribe.
